State Sen. Troy Balderson (R) and businesswoman Melanie Leneghan (R) have received the most political and financial support in the field of 10 Republican candidates. Defending Main Street spent $240,000 on a cable and digital ad buy to support Balderson in April 2018, while Leneghan rounded up endorsements from the House Freedom Caucus and Reps. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Jim Jordan (R-N.C.).

Among the seven Democratic candidates, Franklin County Recorder Danny O'Connor (D) has been backed by party leaders in the state, including Reps. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) and Tim Ryan (D-Ohio).

so the Democratic candidate is likely Danny O'Connor

2018-04-30 22:39:43 UTC

hmm

"The 31-year-old Shelby County native has a bachelor's degree in political science from Wright State University and a law degree from Syracuse University. If elected, O'Connor would be younger than any currently serving member of Congress."

unless he has some severe flaws, not a good sign

"Trivia about the Ohio 12th district: according to Ballotpedia (https://ballotpedia.org/Ohi... the college graduation rate in this district is 37 %, the highest college graduation rate of all 16 Ohio congressional districts by a good margin. For another comparison, the college graduation rate in the Arizona 6th district (yesterday's special election) is 28 %. Why am I posting this - dunno, can't imagine how college graduation rate has anything to do with special elections :-)"

I wonder what effect this will have

2018-04-30 23:25:00 UTC

Pretty big

2018-04-30 23:25:19 UTC

Millenials are major part of the Obama Coalition

2018-04-30 23:26:15 UTC

Also Bernie's supporters were disportionately White Male Millenials (Bernie Bros)

2018-04-30 23:27:29 UTC

But according to this poll the majority of them now support the GOP

2018-04-30 23:28:12 UTC

Rightwing Populist in Europe parties tend to have a lot of young supporters

2018-04-30 23:29:08 UTC

I don't see why this couldn't also become the case in the US with the GOP becoming more Populist

2018-04-30 23:32:21 UTC

Oh my god

2018-04-30 23:32:31 UTC

I just saw this too.

2018-04-30 23:41:42 UTC

@RoastedAdawg it won't matter, it's just one poll.

2018-04-30 23:42:00 UTC

They'll get the voters back, if not they'll be replaced by immigrant voters

@🎃Boo-ton🎃 WV was always a democratic state because of coal miners and industrial workers

2018-04-30 23:52:34 UTC

It's a Trump state, not a Republican state

2018-04-30 23:52:47 UTC

It's changed recently of course, but that's the truth.

2018-04-30 23:55:06 UTC

>Trump state, not a Republican state
One of the few places where this combination is true

2018-04-30 23:55:54 UTC

@🎃Boo-ton🎃 same with Pennsylvania

2018-04-30 23:56:12 UTC

Basically the entire Rust Belt except Ohio

2018-04-30 23:56:21 UTC

2018-04-30 23:57:31 UTC

Haha, us thinking we can beat the Democrats

2018-04-30 23:57:54 UTC

Why is the Republican Establishment not even weakened

2018-04-30 23:58:00 UTC

It's like they've only grown stronger

2018-04-30 23:58:31 UTC

McCarthy is in line ahead of Scalise for Speaker~
McConnell is still in charge of the Senate GOP and no one is fighting him

2018-04-30 23:58:35 UTC

Anyone that does is eliminated

2018-04-30 23:59:20 UTC

@🎃Boo-ton🎃 Joe Manchin is their only Democrat who's occupied a federal position in WV since 2014.
