@EDDSkitz @redbeard @Yeetasaurus Rex @[CA] SoyBoi - Dang it I missed a convo about my profession, I work on P25 terminals and sites. I'll just add this for now. If a radio can do P25 Trunked it should be able to do P25 Conventional. While I don't have much Moto exposure I do know this to be true for MA/COM, Tyco, Ericsson, Harris radios. So you can run encrypted comms via P25C if the modules are enabled and keys are loaded. Additionally, if FREQEDIT is enabled in the MA/COM, Tyco, Ericsson, Harris radios one can edit Tx/Rx frequencies and CTCSS tones (analog and P25C) with the keypad just like the Baofeng radios.

@KaiBran - I learned about "second" phone number apps from my son, who used them on his phone to prank his friends in 8th and 9th grade a few years ago. I tried one to see what is was about and found it useful to keep a level of anonyminity but not for much else.

Someone mustve already asked this but what free resources are available for studying for the amateurs license

@KaiBran - Get this app, it has the test questions in both a learning setting so you read all of them and then quiz mode where 35 are randomly selected. Keep quizing until you pass it repeatedly.

@[VA] JediComms thanks for that... seems like moto has a special key loader hardware device. I'd have to get back with @redbeard on whether that's something I need to load keys or if it can be done software side. I'm gonna grab a few if these cheap APX radios for now and at least have the capability and still be able to run the usual frequencies I do now.

@EDDSkitz - Moto has the KVL 3000/4000/5000 to load keys with. You can buy a used 3000 on eBay for a few hundred dollars and make all the keys you want......and other manufacturers use the KVL to make keys for their radios, too.

I'm not a poor by any stretch, and I'm a buy once crye once kinda guy, lol.... but I just can't justify a few grand for one radio right now.

Would it be ideal to carry one, or 2 if SHTF, in order to give it to a party that you need to speak with that doesn't have one?

@[CA] SoyBoi - as with anything gear related, two is one one is none. Plus, having the ability to share comms in the field with extra radios is a good idea.

Because then you know they are set up to work in unison.

@EDDSkitz - which you can do using a KVL and a P25C capable radio, Moto or otherwise. Just make sure that encryption is enabled on the radio.
