@[VA] JediComms thanks man! I'm downloading it
@[VA] JediComms thanks for that... seems like moto has a special key loader hardware device. I'd have to get back with @redbeard on whether that's something I need to load keys or if it can be done software side. I'm gonna grab a few if these cheap APX radios for now and at least have the capability and still be able to run the usual frequencies I do now.
@EDDSkitz - Moto has the KVL 3000/4000/5000 to load keys with. You can buy a used 3000 on eBay for a few hundred dollars and make all the keys you want......and other manufacturers use the KVL to make keys for their radios, too.
I was looking at the 4k
Oh, nevermind... you're talking the keyloader
I'm looking g at the APX 4000 radios
Yeah, the ability to make your own keys on the fly has value all to itself.
Yeah, true
Right now I'd be the only one with one of these that I work with, so I'm gonna buy 2 radios and start there... at least I'll have the capability
This is my truck portable
Nice, I like harris as a manufacturer, but they are expensive
They are made in the US though right?
Assembled in the US using US and Japan Radio Company parts.
JRC makes a lot of comms part for many companies.
Nice, I try to order Japan as much as possible when it comes to electronics, fuck China
Is that XL200 you got there one if the "cheaper" models?
Oof.... nevermind, lol... looks like that's one of the more top tier radios.
I'm not a poor by any stretch, and I'm a buy once crye once kinda guy, lol.... but I just can't justify a few grand for one radio right now.
@EDDSkitz - then, ummm.....
Would it be ideal to carry one, or 2 if SHTF, in order to give it to a party that you need to speak with that doesn't have one?
@[CA] SoyBoi - as with anything gear related, two is one one is none. Plus, having the ability to share comms in the field with extra radios is a good idea.
Because then you know they are set up to work in unison.
@[VA] JediComms nice way to blow 15k πππ
Insert fast and furious reference here
Good point, hard to assume anyone I meet up will have what they need
@EDDSkitz - working within the P25 industry affords me luxuries I am lucky to have without the expense.
Yeah, I figured
I'm an industrial electrician, so I get the same thing when it comes to expensive electrical projects
All I care about is simplex encryption
@EDDSkitz - which you can do using a KVL and a P25C capable radio, Moto or otherwise. Just make sure that encryption is enabled on the radio.
@[LA] Zoomer Medi/k/ what do you need too know about cb?
I learned what I needed to know.
@[VA] JediComms @EDDSkitz FYI besides the hardware keyloader there is a new device called kfd tool that is a usb dongle and software package for $250.
@redbeard - is that proprietary for Moto radios or applicable to other brands like the KVL?
Is that software just for keyloading?
Also, wanted to pick your brain on what I need to do with the FCC if you know... I dug up my paperwork today, still have 2 years left.
It is not Motorola only, itβs anything that follows the standard.
It will def do those xl200.
When people talk about programming, for example a baofeng
What does that mean? Are you setting restrictions on it or what are you programming it to do?
It was meant to be a cheap open source way to keyload without needing to buy the expensive hardware based unit.
@[CA] SoyBoi you are configuring what frequency your channels are on and other settings like power output and channel names.
