@[VA] JediComms thanks man! I'm downloading it

2020-05-04 15:32:33 UTC

@[VA] JediComms thanks for that... seems like moto has a special key loader hardware device. I'd have to get back with @redbeard on whether that's something I need to load keys or if it can be done software side. I'm gonna grab a few if these cheap APX radios for now and at least have the capability and still be able to run the usual frequencies I do now.

2020-05-04 15:44:51 UTC

@EDDSkitz - Moto has the KVL 3000/4000/5000 to load keys with. You can buy a used 3000 on eBay for a few hundred dollars and make all the keys you want......and other manufacturers use the KVL to make keys for their radios, too.

2020-05-04 15:45:21 UTC

I was looking at the 4k

2020-05-04 15:45:57 UTC

Oh, nevermind... you're talking the keyloader

2020-05-04 15:46:07 UTC

I'm looking g at the APX 4000 radios

2020-05-04 15:46:47 UTC

Yeah, the ability to make your own keys on the fly has value all to itself.

2020-05-04 15:47:00 UTC

Yeah, true

2020-05-04 15:47:51 UTC

Right now I'd be the only one with one of these that I work with, so I'm gonna buy 2 radios and start there... at least I'll have the capability

2020-05-04 15:52:09 UTC

This is my truck portable

2020-05-04 15:52:52 UTC

Nice, I like harris as a manufacturer, but they are expensive

2020-05-04 15:53:01 UTC

They are made in the US though right?

2020-05-04 15:53:40 UTC

Assembled in the US using US and Japan Radio Company parts.

2020-05-04 15:54:09 UTC

JRC makes a lot of comms part for many companies.

2020-05-04 15:54:27 UTC

Nice, I try to order Japan as much as possible when it comes to electronics, fuck China

2020-05-04 15:55:11 UTC

Is that XL200 you got there one if the "cheaper" models?

2020-05-04 15:57:26 UTC

Oof.... nevermind, lol... looks like that's one of the more top tier radios.

2020-05-04 15:58:11 UTC

I'm not a poor by any stretch, and I'm a buy once crye once kinda guy, lol.... but I just can't justify a few grand for one radio right now.

2020-05-04 16:21:20 UTC

@EDDSkitz - then, ummm.....

2020-05-04 16:22:19 UTC

Would it be ideal to carry one, or 2 if SHTF, in order to give it to a party that you need to speak with that doesn't have one?

2020-05-04 16:24:53 UTC

@[CA] SoyBoi - as with anything gear related, two is one one is none. Plus, having the ability to share comms in the field with extra radios is a good idea.

2020-05-04 16:25:13 UTC

Because then you know they are set up to work in unison.

2020-05-04 16:25:33 UTC

@[VA] JediComms nice way to blow 15k πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

2020-05-04 16:25:44 UTC

Insert fast and furious reference here

2020-05-04 16:25:56 UTC

Good point, hard to assume anyone I meet up will have what they need

2020-05-04 16:27:59 UTC

@EDDSkitz - working within the P25 industry affords me luxuries I am lucky to have without the expense.

2020-05-04 16:29:14 UTC

Yeah, I figured

2020-05-04 16:29:44 UTC

I'm an industrial electrician, so I get the same thing when it comes to expensive electrical projects

2020-05-04 16:30:31 UTC

All I care about is simplex encryption

2020-05-04 16:36:04 UTC

@EDDSkitz - which you can do using a KVL and a P25C capable radio, Moto or otherwise. Just make sure that encryption is enabled on the radio.

2020-05-04 22:27:22 UTC

@[LA] Zoomer Medi/k/ what do you need too know about cb?

2020-05-04 22:31:05 UTC

I learned what I needed to know.

2020-05-05 01:50:56 UTC

@[VA] JediComms @EDDSkitz FYI besides the hardware keyloader there is a new device called kfd tool that is a usb dongle and software package for $250.

2020-05-05 01:52:32 UTC

@redbeard - is that proprietary for Moto radios or applicable to other brands like the KVL?

2020-05-05 01:52:58 UTC

Is that software just for keyloading?

2020-05-05 01:53:34 UTC

Also, wanted to pick your brain on what I need to do with the FCC if you know... I dug up my paperwork today, still have 2 years left.

2020-05-05 01:54:15 UTC

It is not Motorola only, it’s anything that follows the standard.

2020-05-05 01:55:03 UTC

It will def do those xl200.

2020-05-05 01:56:14 UTC

When people talk about programming, for example a baofeng
What does that mean? Are you setting restrictions on it or what are you programming it to do?

2020-05-05 01:56:45 UTC

It was meant to be a cheap open source way to keyload without needing to buy the expensive hardware based unit.

2020-05-05 01:57:56 UTC

@[CA] SoyBoi you are configuring what frequency your channels are on and other settings like power output and channel names.
