They dont work at all

2020-05-07 22:07:36 UTC

Which do then lol

2020-05-07 22:07:37 UTC

Well, they don't work well. But with crappy radios they do

2020-05-07 22:07:39 UTC

Is vhf and uhf coax 50 ohm?

2020-05-07 22:07:57 UTC

Ypu can talk and hear on them if that's what you mean by "work"

2020-05-07 22:08:13 UTC

But do not expect then to actually protect your hearing.

2020-05-07 22:08:28 UTC

😒 any decent ones out there
Not "technically the work"

2020-05-07 22:08:33 UTC

I own real peltors, you can always find deals on them used for a few hundred.

2020-05-07 22:08:48 UTC

Few hundred?

2020-05-07 22:08:51 UTC

Chinese it is

2020-05-07 22:09:04 UTC

You need an amplified PTT to use them with civilian radios though

2020-05-07 22:09:10 UTC

Lol, idiot

2020-05-07 22:09:37 UTC

You realize they retail for $700 right? You get what you pay for... say goodbye to your hesring

2020-05-07 22:10:17 UTC

Easy solution though... get the cheap non comms shooting earmuffs and just run a cheap in ear under them.

2020-05-07 22:30:53 UTC

Options for a vhu uhf base antenna?

2020-05-07 22:31:09 UTC

Any brands i need to look at?

2020-05-07 22:33:13 UTC

For what radio?

2020-05-07 22:33:55 UTC

Discone antennas are wide spectrum and will do ham and scanners

2020-05-07 22:37:58 UTC

Anytone 778

2020-05-07 22:38:30 UTC

And yeasu ft65r

2020-05-07 22:38:36 UTC

Also baofeng

2020-05-07 22:41:25 UTC

Look into a "diamond" brand discone antenna

2020-05-08 00:24:00 UTC

What do y'all use for Comms? I'm pretty well versed with my Garmin Rino and my GMRS stuff.

2020-05-08 00:34:58 UTC

Nothing concrete yet @Acadian Adventurer

2020-05-08 00:37:23 UTC

The Rinos are a favorite of mine. They'll even send text over FRS. It's sorta secure-ish in my mind because it's rare for someone to be monitoring FRS for data packets

2020-05-08 00:45:40 UTC

What is the minimum y’all recommend for personal comms as well as the “comms specialists” setup

Neat concept for a portable base radio

2020-05-08 00:52:47 UTC

I have a yaseu 3200dr in the car with a 57 in whip. Works fantastic. And a FTM400xdr at home

2020-05-08 01:35:45 UTC

Here are some of my radios. Aside from the Baofeng UV-82HP, the rest can do analog, P25Conventional, and P25Trunked. Three of the portables and the mobile base station they are sitting on can do multi-band (136MHz through 861/870MHz). The portable off to the right is a single band, UHF-High only. AES and DES encryption is also possible with all except the Baofeng.

2020-05-08 02:13:43 UTC

What kind of hearing protection can we use and still hear our radios?

2020-05-08 02:14:04 UTC

Or anything that would integrate with a BF-F8HP

2020-05-08 02:14:11 UTC

Without a crazy price tag

2020-05-08 02:26:23 UTC

An earpiece under over-the-ear earpro could work.

2020-05-08 02:26:57 UTC

I was thinking about that, wasn't sure about it tho!
I'll try it out

2020-05-08 02:37:47 UTC

I found ear plugs that have a hole for low decibel noise that is compatible with some radios, gonna try that out

2020-05-08 19:41:01 UTC

Well i went with the better than no Comms route, until i can budget out a better one.

2020-05-08 19:41:10 UTC

I know i know, its baofeng

2020-05-08 19:42:04 UTC

You'll never need more

2020-05-08 19:50:54 UTC

I do feel i could use a better antenna though

2020-05-08 19:50:54 UTC

The sainsonic antenna that comes with that one is pretty good, a lot better than the stock uv5r antenna.
