Already have a 11.5 and I like it. But based out of KY, I need something I can use in both.
I might go for middle ground at do 16"...
What's your area like? I understand Kentucky has some wide spaces and mountains. If you're out away from the city I might even say an 18" wwsd rifle
So I have a variety of small to medium towns around, with wooded areas and some fields in between. And a city less than an hour away
So was thinking a 14.5 carbine, or a 18 SPR
Also, I wanna hear on what people think is more effective. Slick plate carrier and chest rig for more options? Or decked out plate carrier to keep everything together?
Everything together in my opinion
Mission drives gear god damnit
Well Crye, obviously. I'm just curious as to what people think fits their situation.
Hence why I have two gear sets. For two seperate missions.
In a SHTF situation, you’re gonna take twice as long gearing up.
Now, certain situations, I could see concealable armor under a jacket or shirt, but as far as a grab and go scenario, definitely together
While I have a minimalist pc, if shit hits the fan, I don't have time to gear up. If I'm lucky, I can grab a few of the many mags stashed around my house while my rifle is in hand
Grab and go where? Against who? Is this a permissive or non-permissive environment? Do you have logistical support?
Precisely, I'm curious as to where... "go" locations come into play. Do you have a spot in mind for that? Or are you gonna run into the woods?
Also, screw it, opinion/roasts?
Lots of roasts, but at least you have NODs
I’m thinking PC with chest rig.
For civilians, we typically don't have "missions," just reacting in self defense. If you have a mission, you can tailor your kit to it before it starts. Otherwise it's best to look like a normal dude with a concealed holster
You can switch out depending on mission setting.
I think we have different definitions of mission then
My mission depends on how this kicks off in my area.
Hence, two sets and mindsets.
In which case, figure out what will most likely happen and plan around that. My number one scenario involves grabbing the fire extinguisher off of my wall.
Interesting, you can on getting Waco'ed?
No, I'm prepared in case one of my electrical outlets sparks and starts a fire or something, because it's statistically much more likely than having my house broken into.
Hahaha
Okay yes but literally entirely irrelevant to this discussion, congrats
No it's relevant. Determine emergency scenarios in order of likelihood and plan for them. Whether it's a fire, flood, or burglar.
If I hear glass break, I'm not grabbing the first aid kit, I'm grabbing the home defense kit.
There's a kit and plan for fire
One for defense
One for bugging out
One for bugging in
Stuff depending on where I'm going
Could not be more relevant
The kit I shared a glimpse of is a raid kit. Short, going somewhere to do something specific type kit. It's not where I want it yet, but if it came down to it, I could make it work.
I'd probably say kits in order of importance, there may be more
First aid
Natural disaster / fire
EDC (concealed carry, tq, knife or shears, etc.)
Common home defense
Get home kit
Bug out kit (you're probably not defending your home from the feds for very long, they won't stop until you're dead)
Mission specific stuff that we do not talk about in this server.
If you're like most people, your mission, as Varg Freeborn would put it, is to get home alive to your loving family. If something matters more than that, then you know exactly why it matters more than that.
Now that I'm living in the country "bugging out" over a disaster is less likely we are shifting to a bug in/prepper mindset now. I have plate carriers for my wife and I and in between them is a shoulder bag with 300 rounds of softpoint 5.56 once we get completely done with this move and our chicken gardening projects I can focus one what role I can make our former bugout bags serve
Sounds like you've got your equipment more or less sorted away. More ammo and preserved food is always good. Might be good to start looking at fortifying your house. Feds like to toss stuff through your windows like flashbangs but they make vandal resistant windows. Stuff like installing better screws in your entry doors and other things to keep them from being bashed down. Motion detecting outdoor lights. Wireless security system like simplisafe
applies to vagrants and mad max crazies as well
My house is brick on a concrete slab I'm going to replace my door sunday I always reinforce the frames and run 3 inch deck screws all around the frame did that for my gun room. Cameras with motion lights are also on my
list. I've had ADT for years planning on having it moved to my new place
I've been buying/loading/building guns and ammo for a decade I'm in decent shape on ammo we have emergency food but wee need more
Nice
