How would you guys feel about bolt enhancements? I’m looking into being more of a gunsmith and I would love to help people keep their rifles functioning flawlessly. I would be more than happy to start replacing and staking gas keys and cam pins, as well as extractors for those who would like that service.

Any of you bastards built a fal?

2020-05-04 07:38:18 UTC

@Ballsdini there is a distinct difference between shaming people for their actual budget, which is a complete asshole thing to do, and shaming someone for making *poor decisions*. Alien Gears aren’t any cheaper than quality holsters that *wont* inherently cause you to ND through your thigh. There are quality ceramic plates that cost the same as AR500’s.
And no amount of loctite can fix the hot mess that alien gears are, sorry.
Life saving equipment and safety are not things you can Jerry rig your way through.
I might come off as an asshole, but I would rather that, than coddle peoples feelings and then have that dude put a hollowpoint through his femoral and bleed out because no one told him his holster is sub par.

> @American_AF so you have the RUGER 5.7 and the FN5.7 how do they compare
@TacticalBeard Unfortunately the 503

So thoughts on precision shooting. Ar-10 vs bolt action? I'm looking to dip my toes in a bit but I don't know anything about long range shooting. I was considering building an ar10 but it sounds like it'll never be as accurate as a bolt action rifle.

2020-05-04 14:35:59 UTC

Bolt action

2020-05-04 14:36:04 UTC

All day

2020-05-04 14:38:22 UTC

Granted you can build some ar10 to perform as a bolt action

2020-05-04 14:38:28 UTC

Idk that just my opinion

2020-05-04 14:39:56 UTC

For anyone with experience with bolt guns, do you have any recommendations? I understand it seems you can't just assemble one like an ar, they seem like they have to be built / modified by a competent Smith

2020-05-04 14:40:55 UTC

Remington 700 is what I’ve had

2020-05-04 14:46:17 UTC

Me too. I sold my .270 but I'm thinking of picking up another 700 in .308

2020-05-04 14:53:49 UTC

I've read that Remington has seriously dropped their quality control. Would it be better to buy parts and have it built in the Remington 700 style without Remington components?

2020-05-04 14:55:52 UTC

Oh, that's an idea

2020-05-04 14:58:59 UTC

Or are there other brands that are higher quality? I don't want to jump in buying parts and make a mistake

2020-05-04 15:13:20 UTC

Reading decent things about tikka

2020-05-04 15:14:49 UTC

Yea I was just about to say Tikka lol

2020-05-04 15:15:49 UTC

But I haven’t heard of Remington having bad QC. I got mine prob 4 years ago now.

2020-05-04 15:16:23 UTC

I got it off armslist and it performed perfectly

2020-05-04 15:17:05 UTC

I’ve also have the savage axis I

2020-05-04 15:17:10 UTC

II*

2020-05-04 15:17:32 UTC

I loved that thing

2020-05-04 16:06:56 UTC

@Artemis Get a tikka

2020-05-04 16:07:28 UTC

or one of the savage chassis bolt actions, theyre good deals. Or the ruger RPR.

2020-05-04 16:08:11 UTC

I got a savage 10 fcp-sr for like $450 and it shoots sub moa easily with hand loads. But the bolt isnt the smoothest.

2020-05-04 16:17:52 UTC

That’s all solid advice. Essentially the deal is that you can build an AR10 and bolt gun to be equally accurate, but that AR10 will be 2-3 times as expensive as the bolt gun

2020-05-04 16:31:25 UTC

It kinda seems like if I dump several grand into building an ar10, i can get it down to maybe 0.5moa or a little lower, but many bolt guns do that off the shelf and only get more accurate from there

2020-05-04 16:37:45 UTC

I’ve had gas guns at or under .5 MOA, and I’ve had bolt guns under .25 MOA.
Granted this is with hand loads developed for the barrel.

Question is, can you shoot well enough to tell the difference?

2020-05-04 16:41:40 UTC

Obviously

2020-05-04 16:43:23 UTC

“ I can shoot .25 MOA all day dude I’m such a good shot”

Just straps his guns into a fucking rig that dose everything for him but pull the trigger

2020-05-04 16:46:22 UTC

I can shoot very accurately with a carbine, but I'll be seeking out classes for longer range stuff. Apparently there's a guy in state who owns a mile long range and has relatively inexpensive classes with good reviews.

2020-05-04 16:47:19 UTC

Nice

2020-05-04 16:47:26 UTC

At around 6 years old I was plinking golf balls from 200 yards. I'm almost 25 now

2020-05-04 16:47:52 UTC

What if you’ve never shot a rifle before

2020-05-04 16:48:01 UTC

Is it automatically.25 MOA?

2020-05-04 16:48:09 UTC

😂

2020-05-04 16:48:26 UTC

Then technically you have a perfect 0.00 MOA aim

2020-05-04 16:48:33 UTC

Fuckin a

2020-05-04 16:48:42 UTC

Bow down

2020-05-04 16:49:11 UTC

Can't miss if you never shoot your shot 👌

2020-05-04 16:50:06 UTC

lol imagine not knowing the difference between measuring inherent mechanic accuracy and field shooting
