I come from a southern baptist family. I’ve been through some shit and I’d have to say they’re almost as bad as Catholics..
As a Tennessean living in a small town, there are many local authorities run very much by gawd
The almost despotic "traditionalism" is astounding. Doing whats been done before because it was done before and no other reason.
>no other reason
You should see how they react to anything different than them.
I grew up religious and still am, but traditionalism is outdated and mostly idiotic
It is for no real reason. There may be real reasons they could have, but what you are told is the same shit
If It Ain't Broke Don't Fix It
I am all for doing whatever works, whether its "old" or "new" dont get me wrong
I say that myself quite a bit, but i typically am not using the same reasons many people who live around me do.
Given a half of my family, many say it because they really wont do anything else, not because ut works fine.
What is deistic world view?
I’m a Christian, according to Christ, he rebuked the Pharisees and Sadducees because they had forsaken the Commandments of God in favor of their traditions of the Elders.
Deistic means you believe in a creator, not necessarily God or Christ.
He also wiped out entire cities and the world for not bowing to everything he said much like a tyrant does
^^^^^ why I am not religious
It's morals.
Far from a believer in a higher power, but not religious
and ethics
For living in sin and disobeying the 10 commandments and killing others.
I genuinely can’t comprehend how anyone could pick up an abrahamic/biblical text and genuinely find them to be compelling enough to base their entire world view on
Clearly I don't think everyone has to believe in a God. But religion defines morals. Without it, what is good, and what is bad?
Aristotle
Common sense
Definitions, reciprocity, and general feelings
@minorthreat I could only wonder why he did that, have you even read Genesis?
Religion is completely unnecessary to establish morality
Religion gives terms, phrases, and structure to morals, it doesnt create it itself
I don’t need the Bible or commandments to know murder and envy is bad.
You have a god-given moral compass and your entire life is a miracle
The majority of it is nurture - what you see and are taught.
Religion can be the catalyst of that for sure
If you are basing your entire morality on religion, you don’t *actually* possess morality, you are just instructed that you will be punished for not following the rules.
facts
only thing stopping me from mass murder is religion
lmao
Religion and philosophy can coexist, see Aquinas.
Like for real, Sodom and Gomarrah were steeped and mired in sin, murder, homosexuality, devil worship.
They can definitely co-exist
