There’s studies that show if you find common ground the person is more willing to believe your side. I.e if I break bread with you about a conspiracy you are more willing to hear my side about the earth not being flat

It can actually be really hard to be honest with yourself

The backfire effect creates the biggest difficulty for anyone of opposing sides on a topic to come to a common ground.
Evidence won’t help in a tough debate in any form because of that. The opposing person is dug in and sticking by their guns
