What evidence points to intelligence being influenced by environmental factors?

I'm not a white supremacist by the way

2019-05-01 22:42:07 UTC

GG @lemonsaw, you just advanced to level 1!

2019-05-01 22:59:06 UTC

@lemonsaw it does not matter

2019-05-01 23:00:00 UTC

The studies show that Asians on average have a higher iq than Europeans

2019-05-01 23:00:11 UTC

And Africans have the lowest

2019-05-01 23:36:30 UTC

@Gerry But there is a huge difference if it's because of their genes or the environment

2019-05-01 23:36:53 UTC

If it's in their genes it means it's inherent to them and it won't change

2019-05-01 23:37:26 UTC

That's why the issue is controversial and emotional

2019-05-01 23:46:13 UTC

Definitely

A study conducted by __Dr. Yashpal Singh__ of the *Ministry of Environment and Forests Government of India* indicates "that various environmental factors such as place of residence, physical exercise, family income, parents' occupation and education influence the IQ of a child to a great extent. Hence, a child must be provided with an optimal environment to be able to develop to his/her full genetic potential."

Improvements in nutritional policy, prenatal and early nutrition are linked to brain structure, there is evidence (provided by a study by the MRC Childhood Nutrition Research Centre and the University College London Institute of Child Health, that providing a high nutrient diet to very premature babies, particularly males, can help to reduce the loss of brain size and IQ often experienced by these babies. Zinc, Iron, folate, iodine, B12 and protein deficiency can also result in low IQ.

@Deleted User I totally agree with your claim and I would be surprised with any scientific data contradicting it

2019-05-02 00:47:02 UTC

Now

2019-05-02 00:47:19 UTC

Does that means intelligence cannot be genetic?

2019-05-02 00:47:25 UTC

The evidence is out there, tons of studies done on environmental effects on IQ.
Now, I did find that genes can affect IQ a lot... especially in adults.
The extent of this is not well known to me, but the problem lies in racist graphs pushing an agenda of anti-blacks by ignoring all of the environmental evidence.

2019-05-02 00:47:54 UTC

So we accept there is a genetic factor and a environmental one

2019-05-02 00:47:57 UTC

Studies agree about 60-80% of IQ is determined by genes once your brain is developed, about 27 years and older.

2019-05-02 00:48:06 UTC

Its definitely both.

2019-05-02 00:48:10 UTC

Could you link me to studies

2019-05-02 00:48:14 UTC

Of course.

2019-05-02 00:48:29 UTC

That's pretty much the whole discussion, how much percent is genetic

2019-05-02 00:49:16 UTC

And if it is 60-80%, that would mean some ethnicity are genetically less intelligent on average

This is the article I was reading from a consultant neurosurgeon in India named Arun Oommen.

He linked the percentage evidence to the first link I provided.

2019-05-02 00:50:25 UTC

Which didn't demonstrate a percent.

2019-05-02 00:51:11 UTC

Indeed

2019-05-02 00:51:25 UTC

It looks like theyre trying to identify genes responsible for intelligence

2019-05-02 00:51:33 UTC

Also 60-80% in adult years is all based on genes. Now what percent of that 60-80 is affected by the changes in ethnicity. That we don't know, and we can't assume that ethnicity has such a strong effect on our genetic intelligence.

2019-05-02 00:51:34 UTC

GG @Deleted User, you just advanced to level 7!

2019-05-02 00:51:55 UTC

Without proper evidence we're making stuff up.

2019-05-02 00:52:07 UTC

except you dont realize

2019-05-02 00:52:10 UTC

that the higher your IQ is

2019-05-02 00:52:15 UTC

the more likely you are gonna develop mental illness

2019-05-02 00:52:34 UTC

Einstein had huge short-term memory loss and needed a secretary to write down everything he wrote

2019-05-02 00:52:34 UTC

Well if it's 70% genetic then the current difference in IQ couldn't be explained with environment

2019-05-02 00:52:45 UTC

It would be largely genetic too

2019-05-02 00:52:57 UTC

There's a threshold where too much IQ can be bad for you

2019-05-02 00:53:02 UTC

probably because brain cant handle the 200 IQ

2019-05-02 00:53:03 UTC

or w/e

2019-05-02 00:53:57 UTC

Totally. However, how much of that 70% is directly from you being black or white? What effect does your ethnicity have on your genetic intelligence. Zero research on this.
People will take the fact that genetics account for about 70% of IQ and then run off with it throwing out statements with zero context.
