I don't think most communists/socialists advocate for the most extreme versions of those systems.

Elements of socialism are cornerstones to an ethical society - on topics of "rights", for example. Obviously things like universal healthcare, education, social security and other shit for old people, handicapped, etc.

Arguing that some people will have more power than others thus those ideas can't work is a straw man...
