last jedi was not in the flop in the sense that it did not make its mone back, its worse: its a flop in the sense that it reduced the amount of money made by every single movie released in the franchise that will come out in the future - see solo.

in the long run it would have been more profitable for disney to to decide to not release the move the day before the premiere.

(except if they decide to just not release any more star wars movies of course)
