if they are deemed capable and meeting the standard fitness
*>I would only say a draft would be needed in desperate times.*
If you need the draft, it's not desperate.
I feel mixed about it. A militis draft in the event of an invasion makes sense, and the structure and discipline of the military is sorely needed in light of the LACK of it in the educational system. That being said... forcing someone to fight and die on foreign soil hits a big stop sign in my head.
But Tum did point out the existence of noncombat positions. Hell, Mr. Native American from the CovKids scandal was drafted as a fridge repairman IIRC.
I don't see a draft being necessary unless it's foreign invasion or giant world war type situation
Perhaps work it into the education system as live experience internship?
Thus the dems can't complain about armed militias too
it would severely fuck up the economy due to having a giant army and having a large part of the population not in the general workforce
Not if it's temporary and included for like a year as education.
It could also gateway into more permanent service, if the individual wants
it would still require a great amount of resources to maintain an army of that size
True... it'd be like a bootcamp, but built into the educational system.
And that van't be cheap
possibly but I would think there are better things you can invest in from a education standpoint, like trade schools
Hitler ended unemployment with a draft. A true hero to keynesians.
Styx about Ebola in Africa.
I prefer the Toto version
Whoa, raging Styx is awesome 😄
not a fan of Come Sail Away but enjoy Lady
there's value in the training and service, but forcing people to go to war is just not something I can back
I mean if you did something like bootcamp in school, it would just be bording school.
Bootcamp is a lot like a bording school really, you just learn to be a soldier.
I mean, the thing about mandatory boot camp is that it would include gun competency.
and you could classify people as part of a "well trained militia"
because they WERE trained
If you put people into Bootcamp+AIT/equivilant, it would clock in under a year depending on MOS, I am guessing most would be 'rifleman' equivilant meaning they don't have a super long AIT, you could see the entire population do it, but I would still not suport it manditorily, I think it should be a concious effort on the part of the individual.
You need to want it.
yeah, that's fair
I imagine that's why the "do this or don't vote" aspect is in play
but that seems... a bit to far?
It is too far to disenfranchize people for it
Voting is treason.
like 75% of the population is medicaly disqualified
Soy.
I was medicaly disqualified after joining for Asthma
I was medically disqualified for having a Y chromosome.
hn. that's fair
incentivation is a better route, knowing that
Service guarantees citizenship!
