My great grandfather was a WWII Vet.
Farmer turned into draftee.
>right of the state
I could literally use that for everything else
I just realized something. Didn't Obama cause a shutdown to get funding for Obamacare?
But yeah, I agree that there should never be a Draft.
I would only say a draft would be needed in desperate times.
Like, if america would be invaded a call to arms.
~~LOCAL58 CONTINGENCY PLAN~~
I think the US should not only have the draft but a two year mandatory service as well. It should be noted that the only people who would be fighting overseas have to opt-in and everyone else would stay on US soil. It would solve a lot of societal issues we are currently facing.
There was a plan that always shut up feminists: 1 year mandatory service in Non-combat support battalions. 365 days after boot camp to do grunt work. Everyone serves no exceptions. After that, you can go to college, you can get out, or you can re-enlist as a regular. 1 years only serve state side and failure to complete the service means you can not go to college or vote.
The really nice thing about the military is that it does a great job at reversing years of bad parenting. We have entire generations of kids/young adults who have never had an authority figure in their lives and conscription would give them a hard dose of reality.
draft shouldn't be acceptable in the 21st century imo.
Also in the event of a total war with the russians and china will just in a MAD situation more than anything
It's not like afghanistan or iraq where they don't have an arsenal of nuclear weapons
Also basics was the worst.
and I don't get why people want to subject a generation to that kind of torture.
but if such an act is to be enacted, then yeah, I wholefully agree that it should encompass all genders
if they are deemed capable and meeting the standard fitness
*>I would only say a draft would be needed in desperate times.*
If you need the draft, it's not desperate.
I feel mixed about it. A militis draft in the event of an invasion makes sense, and the structure and discipline of the military is sorely needed in light of the LACK of it in the educational system. That being said... forcing someone to fight and die on foreign soil hits a big stop sign in my head.
But Tum did point out the existence of noncombat positions. Hell, Mr. Native American from the CovKids scandal was drafted as a fridge repairman IIRC.
I don't see a draft being necessary unless it's foreign invasion or giant world war type situation
Perhaps work it into the education system as live experience internship?
Thus the dems can't complain about armed militias too
it would severely fuck up the economy due to having a giant army and having a large part of the population not in the general workforce
Not if it's temporary and included for like a year as education.
It could also gateway into more permanent service, if the individual wants
it would still require a great amount of resources to maintain an army of that size
True... it'd be like a bootcamp, but built into the educational system.
And that van't be cheap
possibly but I would think there are better things you can invest in from a education standpoint, like trade schools
Hitler ended unemployment with a draft. A true hero to keynesians.
Styx about Ebola in Africa.
I prefer the Toto version
Whoa, raging Styx is awesome 😄
not a fan of Come Sail Away but enjoy Lady
>mandatory service
>not just going full Heinlein
there's value in the training and service, but forcing people to go to war is just not something I can back
I mean if you did something like bootcamp in school, it would just be bording school.
