I still don't get why you americans still consider her to be a viable politician
I suppose the same could be said about my own country, on why a corrupt politician with multiple human-rights abuse allegations are still considered a viable presidential candidate
the 4th most populated country in the world
no
Indonesia
because it's amusing to see american politics and draw comparison and global trends
since Indonesia's identitarianism is between conservative oligarch authoritarian and liberal democracy.
especially the ones backed by old cold war era sentiments
wdym?
ohh
I was thinking it as both shitposting and serious
since I don't know senny that well
true
it's always true on most discord servers
first time I followed tim, it was OWS
I was in high school back then, I suppose
that's why I keep a clean record of some sort
I befriends people on all sides of the spectrum
look for people in the same hobby, or passion, or just look up on local communities
that's what I did
I have to admit that I don't have much friends from uni days, except from my unit members
since you are allowed to receive military training while attending university in Indonesia
I made friends from all walk of life
I'm an introvert as well, but eh.... I try to manage a social life because I find it to be useful for life
having a more, pragmatic approach had been rather beneficial
try to get more "influential" friends
improvise. adapt. overcome.
analyze the local situation
know the probablity of the situation to happen in your local area
avoid any crossfire
keep vigilance at all times
no?
is your school a politically hostile environment?
in Indonesia, any practical politics is banned on academic grounds
and people had been expelled for it
yeah
It's hilarious
probably a result of the lack of party diversity in america
at least, on a national level
to me, an outsider to american politics, American politics is rather worrisome because one is either a democrat or a republican, and people follow both party like it's a religion. heck, sometimes more important than religion.
multiple party systems also have their own demerits, but you're not really limited to a few choices
where are you at, tritium?
singapore?
but eh... american left are hardly leftists
ah
at least it's not a 1-party system like in some countries, or a multiple party system to disguise their 1-party system like singapore
in Indonesia, at least, you have different flavors of political leanings as each party have different flavors between religious, seculars, democratic, conservatives, socialists, etc.
yeah
it's rather weird to see the evolution of green party
but eh.... I don't think there's a way to get a third national party to show up in America
yeah
like seriously, my family have changed political party choice for so many times since it doesn't really matter on what you pick, but who you pick.
since we pick a candidate on each candidate's merit
instead of purely on their political party
(although some people do pick party choices)
I guess that's why it's unlikely for a party to reign on multiple terms
I mean, he does say a lot of awful stuffs
to be honest
but I do get your point
presidential election in Indonesia is in 2019
but damn, I'm more eager to see who's going to be the new mayor after her term ends next year
since it would be a tough job to continue her excellent work
it does matter here tho
since the current mayor and the one before her had been excellent mayors and helped to clean up the mess from the new order era
tidied up the streets, made canals and better sewer system
I'm both eager and worried on what kind of candidate will come forward
yeah, we had an american-backed authoritarian regime from 1966 to 1998
where people had been killed and jailed for diverging from the reigning party
and we've had some transition era to dismantle much of the damages
although very slowly
I remember that we were sent to another town to avoid troubles since there were plenty of anti-chinese tensions
there were riots, rapes and lootings in the capital as the regime changed.
it was a rather tense situation
especially when there were insurrections and racial civil wars that erupted
like the massacre of sampit, where maduranese were persecuted by borneo-born dayaks; Ambon civil war, where christians and muslims fought a bloody civil war; Rise of GAM (aceh freedom movement); rise of OPM (free papua organisation); etc.
and the advent of 9/11 also resulted in the rise of wahhabists and religious extremists who were heavily suppressed during the authoritarian regime
eh.... we've always had an islamic party in Indonesia. heck, even before it was called Indonesia
when it was still called Dutch East Indies
the "conservative" islamists party had mostly been moderate here
heck, they literally just banned a wahhabist movement.
heck, islam in Indonesia is a rather unique blend of islam teachings and hindu-buddhist influences
since the islamic saints in Indonesia was told to have used shadow puppet theatre and epic drawings to spread their religion
heck, most muslim here never thought of visiting buddhist or hindu temples of old as something sacrilegious
they just think of it as it's part of the culture
tbh, I was extremely worried when tim posted the anti-islam persecution by the CCP since wow.... if that made a national news here... I can only feel dread on the consequences
while his comments on that vid was filled with people exclaiming that they agree with the news.
that one
when I saw that, I was immediately horrified
yeah
it's disturbing as heck
while I'm seeing the reverse version of this stuff everyday
whenever I have people call me a white cis male, I just laugh.
they only got male right
but yeah, I feel you
I've seen people on the far left calling people intolerant and fascists, while they spout they're going to kill a certain group of people
and I'm like, gtfo you rascal.
