"Why do we keep gendering our AI assistants?" http://www.invisionapp.com/blog/ai-assistant-gender/ FFS.

2018-02-14 07:07:30 UTC

I don't think he's the first to bring this up, actually.

2018-02-14 07:12:39 UTC

that article acts like this is the first time humans did that

2018-02-14 07:12:45 UTC

What are people going to call sex bots? (If that is ever going to catch on.)

2018-02-14 07:13:35 UTC

It's quite common to refer to motorcycles as a "she". Is this now too "problematic"? Even a female friend of mine calls her bike "she" at name it/her Xena.

2018-02-14 07:13:55 UTC

this isn't some new incident, people for sentiment add genders to objects all the time

@Sjeeke you beat me too it, i was gonna say we call cars "She" all the time

2018-02-14 07:13:57 UTC

*and named it

2018-02-14 07:15:31 UTC

even earlier, Weapons even got refered to she/he in the middle ages and given names

2018-02-14 07:16:14 UTC

Hollywood is going to have to redo a lot of the movies they made, since they refer to AI/robots with male and female pronouns all the time.

2018-02-14 07:17:08 UTC

won't work tbh, even if you refer to an A.I. as "it" they'll still complain you treat the ai like a wamyn cuz wamyn are seen as objects

2018-02-14 07:18:38 UTC

'They' are always looking to find problems where people really do not have an issue.

2018-02-14 07:19:36 UTC

well its just haters gonna hate, as we've agreed, we refer to inanimate objects like a car or tool with gendered names/pronouns

this isn't a NEW thing, and if inanimate objects weren't a problem, why would actual Intelligence suddenly be?

2018-02-14 07:20:05 UTC

True.

2018-02-14 07:20:08 UTC

i'm sure they'll go and make it soon that its racist because AI's don't get to decide their gender or something

2018-02-14 07:20:55 UTC

Yes... And I bet they did some kind of xyz studies course.

2018-02-14 07:21:18 UTC

i wouldnt be surprised

2018-02-14 07:21:45 UTC

where they asked an AI and it didnt respond cuz its not sentient yet, and they concluded AI's need safe spaces, cuz clearly its got too much anxiety to respond

2018-02-14 07:22:51 UTC

Haha 😃

People gender their boats.
