@Timcast there is still value in the work, even if the term journalism may no longer hold the same meaning, the actual work is still needed. I have a running theory that as the news media struggles to find a place in the internet age in which they are no longer the gate keepers of "the facts", as you pointed out, their standards have slipped (or their lack of standards at times are being exposed). This is leading to a greater number of people starting to distrust it, while the remaining people split along the divide. However, as the left keeps making fools of itself, and the right keeps being the right, people are gonna start looking more and more for a reputable news source.

There is still trust in the media, the journalists now are exploiting the trust the media spent decades earning from the populace. Just happens that we all now realise that journalism has always been tainted with bias and misinfo.

Also... A good instance of how freedom of the press can be akward to handle. You got multiple sites with their own "side" of the fight, of course you will only report stuff to keep your readers happy.

2018-05-23 01:06:00 UTC

the idea that many people still believe at least one side of the major media is telling them the honest truth is incredibly depressing

2018-05-23 01:07:28 UTC

Finding an unbiased news outlet today is like trying to find a needle in a haystack

2018-05-23 01:07:44 UTC

Especially from the Legacy media

2018-05-23 01:07:51 UTC

the problem isint people who want to lie and change the throughts of the world to their own narritive. the problem is people who want the honest truth when all they know is dominated by 2nd hand and 3rd hand sources

2018-05-23 01:08:29 UTC

has the media ever really told the truth? probably only when the truth was more valuible than fiction

2018-05-23 01:08:50 UTC

i mean, i have never really trusted the media

2018-05-23 01:09:33 UTC

People's trust in the media, especially Legacy media is dropping fast since we have the internet

2018-05-23 01:09:59 UTC

You can cross-reference different sources with the click of a button

2018-05-23 01:10:09 UTC

the internet is no more honest than the legacy media, it just has more honest people in it

2018-05-23 01:10:45 UTC

Honest means, I do not lose anything from stating the truth.

2018-05-23 01:10:50 UTC

how do you know what the truth is that anyone tells you?

2018-05-23 01:11:09 UTC

even people who trust the current highly bias left leaning sites, given how, with each passing day, the list of stuff you can do to get kicked out of "the left" is growing, more and more will lose that trust as the remaining people get more and more fickle.

2018-05-23 01:11:11 UTC

the internet probably also has more people looking to exploit and manipulate the opinions of others for some grand design than legacy media

2018-05-23 01:11:12 UTC

Id say people value personal image too much

2018-05-23 01:11:17 UTC

legacy media seems to be mostly in it for the money

2018-05-23 01:11:25 UTC

"Downvotes and unfriending"

2018-05-23 01:11:48 UTC

For-profit tend to do that, AG

2018-05-23 01:12:11 UTC

well of course they do

2018-05-23 01:12:14 UTC

at the end of the day

2018-05-23 01:12:16 UTC

the money in legacy media will become more and more what political interests what the less the mass's attention and money it has

2018-05-23 01:12:17 UTC

it's a business to them

2018-05-23 01:12:37 UTC

Indeed

2018-05-23 01:13:35 UTC

its business to the internet too

2018-05-23 01:14:07 UTC

It's sad that Twitter has become a place where you have to walk on eggshells to avoid getting blocked.

2018-05-23 01:14:25 UTC

I didn't even have to do anything to get hit with a blocklist

2018-05-23 01:14:26 UTC

blocked?

2018-05-23 01:14:29 UTC

I don't fear blocked

2018-05-23 01:14:32 UTC

I fear being banned

2018-05-23 01:15:19 UTC

you should try to get as blocked as much as you posibly can, the deeper into the echo chamber your opponents get the less they know

2018-05-23 01:15:59 UTC

Once someone blocks you, the conversation ends. Where do you go from there?

2018-05-23 01:16:13 UTC

war or segrigation

2018-05-23 01:16:26 UTC

I don't block unless someone's earned the total asshole achievement

2018-05-23 01:16:38 UTC

how does one earn that

2018-05-23 01:17:16 UTC

Constantly spin and twist your words, try emotional manipulation/blackmail, strawmanning, +++

2018-05-23 01:18:07 UTC

Well, yeah, in the case of harassment I'd eventually mute or block.

2018-05-23 01:19:12 UTC

Over time you just get sick and tired of the same regurgitated arguments

2018-05-23 01:19:27 UTC

The same insults thrown in in subtle ways
