people need to define asylum

2018-06-21 13:50:50 UTC

being poor in a poor country is not oppression

2018-06-21 13:50:55 UTC

it is defined, its just used interchangably, when it shouldnt

2018-06-21 13:51:28 UTC

no but MS13 is killing people

2018-06-21 13:51:35 UTC

gangs in honduras hunt and kill ppl

2018-06-21 13:52:02 UTC

is it the responsibility for the US to take care of the gangs?

2018-06-21 13:52:06 UTC

on college campuses theres asylum ... and I think the inmates are running it

2018-06-21 13:53:41 UTC

@Radcliffe depends on if you count the cartels and gangs as being as violent as rebel groups in a civil war or not.

2018-06-21 13:53:53 UTC

yeah exactly

2018-06-21 13:54:29 UTC

i get the feeling that many of the people that want us to take in migrants en masse are the same that want the US to stay out of other countries

2018-06-21 13:56:08 UTC

Isn't MS13 just a gang? Do they count as a widespread problem in mexico?

2018-06-21 13:56:48 UTC

They're a vicious, brutal gang, but do they count as a widespread army like ISIS or the Taliban?

2018-06-21 13:57:16 UTC

@Deleted User MS13 is pretty big if i recall

2018-06-21 13:57:32 UTC

maybe... hang on Im just thinking this through so it might come out weird....
what if, instead of paying for a $17bn ineffective wall... they pay $17bn to mexico (a figure which would fluctuate depending on how many get through) .. but basically pay mexico to stop people before they get through

2018-06-21 13:57:45 UTC

"Mara Salvatrucha, also known as MS-13, is an international criminal gang that originated in Los Angeles, California, in the 1980s. The gang later spread to many parts of the continental United States, Canada, Mexico, and Central America, and is active in urban and suburban areas. Most members are of Central American origin, principally El Salvador."

2018-06-21 13:57:45 UTC

Yeah, that's not gonna work

2018-06-21 13:58:02 UTC

then if mexico want their huge sums of money they have to be active on the border

2018-06-21 13:58:09 UTC

its incentivising

2018-06-21 13:58:16 UTC

They're not gonna be. They gotta fix their own country first

2018-06-21 13:58:18 UTC

pretty sure that if they started in mexico, you'd call them a cartel

2018-06-21 13:58:47 UTC

or if they were Italian, a mafia

2018-06-21 13:59:22 UTC

so really depends on how violent they are, or if they are a valid reason to see asylum.

2018-06-21 14:00:05 UTC

Do people running from mexico afraid of MS13 count as refugees, like the afghans who ran from the taliban?

2018-06-21 14:00:29 UTC

well, MS13 is more american based.

2018-06-21 14:00:41 UTC

its more the drug cartels

2018-06-21 14:01:01 UTC

That doesn't matter, are they as widespread and dangerous to classify as a threat to every single citizen?

2018-06-21 14:01:46 UTC

For example, the Taliban stoned men to death for crimes such as not having their beards a certain length

2018-06-21 14:01:48 UTC

do you consider drug cartels a threat to every single citizen in mexico?

2018-06-21 14:02:01 UTC

drug cartels kill you for your land

2018-06-21 14:02:01 UTC

I don't know, which is why i'm asking

2018-06-21 14:02:43 UTC

I've only heard about MS13's brutality, not about their aims

2018-06-21 14:02:45 UTC

they will kill you if they think you are threat, in the way, or refuse them service.

2018-06-21 14:03:16 UTC

depending on the cartel obviously

2018-06-21 14:03:34 UTC

people fleeing MS13 would be more likely heading to Europe or Canada than mexico

2018-06-21 14:03:45 UTC

or coming from mexico

2018-06-21 14:04:17 UTC

at the vary least if a family came from mexico claiming political asylum from a drug cartel, i'd consider it viable. they are the law in some parts.

2018-06-21 14:06:02 UTC

Damn. What would you say the limit would be for the number of refugees the US can allow?

2018-06-21 14:06:28 UTC

You would hope the number of children that were separated would give a sense of how much illegal immigration there is, but people only focused on the act of separation.

2018-06-21 14:06:41 UTC

Personally, I'd fight back, but I don't think everyone can do that

2018-06-21 14:08:07 UTC

Dosent help that they are not as well armed

2018-06-21 14:08:19 UTC

depends, we could leave them in the middle of the desert, put a fence around them, and say figure it out but we will try and keep you kind of safe from the people who hate you, as much as we have empty desert. but outside that, maybe between 1-3 long term refuge families per city or town? and they would have to be sent out to those places to try and keep them spread out to force integration if they want to stay here
