If the kids become legalized then their parents can come through the normal immigration process, which is fine.

But you have many people arguing that the illegal parents should be allowed to stay because it would harm the child

isn't it pretty difficult to get into the United States as a legal immigrant? why do we have this process if they can just live here illegally and get the exact same benefits with less difficulty?

Illegals can come in any number. There's no quotas or limits. That means A LOT of potential new voters. And there's no requirement that they be able to positively contribute to the country. So that means most of them are extremely poor, uneducated, unskilled, and looking for government support. Absolutely prime for democrats to scoop up. The democrats long-term electoral prospects would be undeniably harmed by immigration reform that made it easier for skilled immigrants to enter the country.

Legal immigrants on the other hand would have some upper limit on their numbers per year, as that best suits the needs of the United States. They would also be required to have some sort of means of reliably supporting themselves and contributing to the economy, like a skilled trade, a degree of some kind, or potentially a business. Odds are such immigrants would not change the electoral balance significantly.

tl;dr - democrats want to import voters so fixing the laws hurts them.

the whole point of the immigration system is because the western world has a big economy

So big in fact it can afford to use taxpayer money to pay for benefits
Good roads, guaranteed schooling for all children, healthcare for those in need, clean water, the whole lot

Legal citizens are on the eyes of the state, If they earn money, the state will know, and then can demand taxes to pay for these things
Illegals, aren't always known, so theres no way to know how much money they make, how much can be taxed (if at all),

Not to mention a large chunk of those people wanna send money back home since the economic difference is so big, a small pocket change can be a big deal

So illegal immigrants can still benefit from the economy, and don't always pay into it, meaning law abiding citizens are forced to pay for those shortcomings

On top of that, with the legal means, a country can pick the best and brightest applying, thus improving the country by having better contribution
Illegals can be thugs/anything that cause trouble, and since most are relatively low skilled, they're gonna drain much more resources than they could possibly add

In short, if you want a system that allows for illegals, make it where no taxes are used on any public services, no welfare, no nothing for anyone,
If someone wants something they'll have to pay it themselves

If everyone can just come in, they'll all want a slice of "the best pie", causing massive influx of people with a limited set of jobs, so you get unemployment, people need to live too so higher taxes, bringing everything down, because more taxes means less money to spend on things, higher prices, which means less purchasing power, requiring MORE subsidies
