Nelson Mandela is pretty important for South African Politics.

That alone is going to make him a key figure.

And was also responsible for SA become the shithole it is now

Well, maybe he isnt directly responsible, but it hasnt improved since him taking control

And even if it were the case, he has his supporters and did do some good things.

I dont disagree there. Theres good in the bad.

So there's no reason South Africa shouldn't honor him in some way.

But the sum of the parts sum up to SA becoming alot worse off than it is.

I guess. He is an icon who deserves to be remembered.

I just wish people would also get the whole picture, good and bad

You can say that about alot of people. But it's not a reason to tear down celebrations in his name.

This narrative is ultimately the goal. The legacy media and powers that be want to reassert control of the internet and stamp out any opposing narratives.

They can't do it on their own and they don't want to pick a fight with the government (due to the 1st amendment) so they go after the social media companies instead.
