15,000 is more realistic given the task at hand. you always have to keep in mind that for every front line soldier there are 3-4 support troops. logistics are a bitch.

you also have to keep in mind the necessity of force protection and 24 hour troop rotations.

so if you put 15k on deployment that means you're only going to have maybe 4k combat troops, and only 1-1.5k of those are going to actually be on the line at any point in time.

obviously there's a capacity to put more on the line in extreme circumstances, but we're talking about sustained operations.

like if you have a company with 3 platoons, you're going to have one of those platoons sleeping, one of those platoons doing maintenance, and another on watch. the guys on maintenance can always grab their gear and move quickly if shtf but for long term operations you can't have everyone ready to fight 24/7
