And the justice system is set up that you need unanimity to find guilty in most capital crime cases

2019-01-13 23:34:22 UTC

No, but the common person will be against him from how things "look". We need to remember that.

2019-01-13 23:34:23 UTC

This is English Law, not Napoleonic/Roman

2019-01-13 23:35:06 UTC

And American Law has the most safeguards of all

2019-01-13 23:35:08 UTC

You can go to jail for how you look in court, regardless of the evidence presented unfortunately.

2019-01-13 23:35:09 UTC

On purpose

2019-01-13 23:35:14 UTC

That is true

2019-01-13 23:35:30 UTC

Not to say there is much better options, but it is a bit of a pitfall

2019-01-13 23:35:49 UTC

I will admit, it is probably the best system we've got so far.

2019-01-13 23:35:57 UTC

In any case it's not like we actually execute people in the US anymore...well, except for TX

2019-01-13 23:36:14 UTC

It'll be two decades before it happens if that

2019-01-13 23:36:24 UTC

In the meantime there are appeals

2019-01-13 23:36:48 UTC

I mean, the chances of you living through a firing line is actually higher than most other death sentences. Remember, if you live through the line firing at you, you get to walk free because you served your sentence.

2019-01-13 23:36:59 UTC

I'm not sure how many jurors remember and take to heart "innonent until proven guilty" or realize it's up to the state to prove they are guilty, not on the person to prove they are innocent.

2019-01-13 23:37:31 UTC

The ones I worked with all did

2019-01-13 23:37:36 UTC

When i was a juror

2019-01-13 23:38:12 UTC

I have my first jury duty call in February. Well first one I can actually attend since all the previous ones were while in school out of state.

2019-01-13 23:38:41 UTC

For the common crimes, they probably do remember that. I dont know for how it works when the case is so sensationalized and most people have heard of it though.

2019-01-13 23:39:10 UTC

There are times it's hard to find an unbiased jury.

2019-01-13 23:40:04 UTC

Which is why I can somewhat understand the UKs idea of preventing the news from reporting on stuff until after the trial is over. However I think the risk of abuse is too great, but I can understand the idea.

2019-01-14 01:52:44 UTC

@pratel pls remove the "mobile" in the Link.

2019-01-14 01:52:54 UTC

because with that, Discord doesn't parse it.

2019-01-14 01:52:59 UTC

2019-01-14 01:53:03 UTC

Gotcha.

2019-01-14 02:17:26 UTC

moving to the middle is bad, mmmmkay?

2019-01-14 05:01:14 UTC

Please yeet Maduro outta there

2019-01-14 11:42:44 UTC

the sweet sweet hypocrisy of the left

2019-01-14 12:59:47 UTC

Old but still a good laugh

2019-01-14 12:59:59 UTC

"Born of privileged white Christian parents, Patrick had an early life of comfort, blissfully ignorant of the terrible black slavery that was going on only a few thousand miles south of his home. Nor did he give much thought to the daily struggles of the LGBTQ+ community. When he was 16, a group of Irish travelers insisted that young Patrick join them on their boat for some exciting sea-faring adventures. On landing in Ireland, he was encouraged to earn good money looking after animals. Despite this charmed life, Patrick cruelly abandoned his generous employers and returned home to Britain where he remained for a while."
Man, this guy in 387 AD didnt really care about the gays or slavery in some far off land. What a FUCKING BIGOT

2019-01-14 13:00:23 UTC

"Only a few thousand miles south"

...You utter simpleton.

2019-01-14 13:00:45 UTC

Oh, it got worse.
