As they say, you can indict a cheese sandwich.

2018-11-23 21:05:44 UTC

They other was a serial pedophile.

2018-11-23 21:05:53 UTC

Guilty beyond a reasonable doubt is ignored many times these days

2018-11-23 21:05:59 UTC

My issue is not with grand juries.

2018-11-23 21:06:14 UTC

By pedophile, the victims were all 14-17

2018-11-23 21:06:20 UTC

My issue is with the presumption of guilt

2018-11-23 21:06:27 UTC

Yes, mine too.

2018-11-23 21:07:09 UTC

I presume innocence but then review the facts presented and make the best decision i can

2018-11-23 21:07:17 UTC

Yes if that person is a pedophile they should absolutely be behind bars, but I need to assume they are innocent until proven guilty no matter how heinous the crime

2018-11-23 21:07:26 UTC

We've interrogated the police investigators pretty hard

2018-11-23 21:07:29 UTC

Many people do not

2018-11-23 21:07:52 UTC

How did you interrogate the police investigators as part of a grand jury?

2018-11-23 21:08:30 UTC

We are an investigative body. We can question the witnesses brought before us.

2018-11-23 21:08:39 UTC

Directly

2018-11-23 21:08:48 UTC

It's pretty empowering

2018-11-23 21:09:26 UTC

I was pretty ruthless with the detectives on the pedophile case because the girls looked pretty old and I wanted to fully understand what the accused knew of their ages

2018-11-23 21:09:43 UTC

When I was presented with evidence that he was picking them up at school, I was satisfied

2018-11-23 21:09:58 UTC

Makes sense.

2018-11-23 21:11:02 UTC

Likewise, two guys were ruthless on the detective on the 17yo rape case. They demanded the entire text conversation be read to us where he essentially admitted to doing it. They weren't satisfied with just the victim's testimony under oath.

2018-11-23 21:11:36 UTC

I really, really hope that people do continue taking this seriously,

2018-11-23 21:11:48 UTC

The "believe the victim" narrative is vomit inducing to me.

2018-11-23 21:12:04 UTC

The entire language is centered around manipulation, i.e. implying that there is a victim even.

2018-11-23 21:12:16 UTC

It presupposes, linguistically, what is to be proven.

2018-11-23 21:12:19 UTC

I detest that.

2018-11-23 21:12:20 UTC

Ultimately I am more inclined to believe those who testify under oath. If they lie, throw the book at them.

2018-11-23 21:12:34 UTC

Yes, which should happen more often.

2018-11-23 21:12:45 UTC

I think perjury is a huge issue.

2018-11-23 21:13:05 UTC

If we had done that, Crystal Mangum would not have gone on to murder her boyfriend later.

2018-11-23 21:13:28 UTC

I say victim on the basis of the texts which convinced me. It'll be up to the actual jury to decide although I expect that one to end in a plea bargain. He incriminated himself.

2018-11-23 21:13:32 UTC

At least Mike Nifong saw more consequences than usual.

2018-11-23 21:13:42 UTC

Yes, I don't mean you specifically.

2018-11-23 21:14:01 UTC

I just hate what the media are doing now, that they call accusers, across the board "victims".

2018-11-23 21:14:14 UTC

And bullshit like "believe the victim".

2018-11-23 21:14:26 UTC

Well ... a falsely accused person can be a victim. Duh.

2018-11-23 21:14:35 UTC

The grand jury is a critical defense against tyranny...assuming the jurors take their role seriously

2018-11-23 21:14:56 UTC

Al I can say is that we do

2018-11-23 21:15:00 UTC

They better do.

2018-11-23 21:15:17 UTC

It's a decision about someone else's life.

2018-11-23 21:15:47 UTC

"Beyond a reasonable doubt" must be beyond a reasonable doubt.

2018-11-23 21:16:13 UTC

Anyway. I have to go.
