Really it's sickening how rape has been weaponized
Feminist/victim organizations are trying to make it illegal to present some types of exculpatory evidence in court.
Of course they are it is about power not justice
I can only speak to the two cases I have dealt with in grand jury, both of which we sent to trial on a 7/0 vote including 3 men and 4 women.
One was a 17yo who allegedly forced sex on a 14yo.
Yes, the bar for a grand jury is pretty low.
As they say, you can indict a cheese sandwich.
They other was a serial pedophile.
Guilty beyond a reasonable doubt is ignored many times these days
My issue is not with grand juries.
By pedophile, the victims were all 14-17
My issue is with the presumption of guilt
Yes, mine too.
I presume innocence but then review the facts presented and make the best decision i can
Yes if that person is a pedophile they should absolutely be behind bars, but I need to assume they are innocent until proven guilty no matter how heinous the crime
We've interrogated the police investigators pretty hard
Many people do not
We are an investigative body. We can question the witnesses brought before us.
Directly
It's pretty empowering
I was pretty ruthless with the detectives on the pedophile case because the girls looked pretty old and I wanted to fully understand what the accused knew of their ages
When I was presented with evidence that he was picking them up at school, I was satisfied
Makes sense.
Likewise, two guys were ruthless on the detective on the 17yo rape case. They demanded the entire text conversation be read to us where he essentially admitted to doing it. They weren't satisfied with just the victim's testimony under oath.
I really, really hope that people do continue taking this seriously,
The "believe the victim" narrative is vomit inducing to me.
The entire language is centered around manipulation, i.e. implying that there is a victim even.
It presupposes, linguistically, what is to be proven.
I detest that.
Ultimately I am more inclined to believe those who testify under oath. If they lie, throw the book at them.
Yes, which should happen more often.
I think perjury is a huge issue.
If we had done that, Crystal Mangum would not have gone on to murder her boyfriend later.
I say victim on the basis of the texts which convinced me. It'll be up to the actual jury to decide although I expect that one to end in a plea bargain. He incriminated himself.
At least Mike Nifong saw more consequences than usual.
Yes, I don't mean you specifically.
I just hate what the media are doing now, that they call accusers, across the board "victims".
