Another thing that I'm looking forward to is neuralink
I don't think it's that world-changing either. If only because there's already approaches to the almost the same outcome.
Incremental change as oppsed to revolutionary.
Neuralink sounds like the future of the human race
But maybe I'm too optimistic
Honestly having something implanted into my head that can interface with a computer makes me really uncomfortable
/Really/ uncomfortable
I'm not so bothered by the idea of interfacing with a neural interface.
I'm more bothered by what it could imply other people could do or what technologies needed to make it happen might enable.
Give me read access and I can gain write access.
It's more the physical implanting into my head
And that's terrifying IMO
that makes me uncomfortable
then interfacing with anything
Yea that's the thing. On one hand it means incredible progress
On the other hand it means a person with enough power can control you
It doesn't even have to be direct control. It's more like foolproof manipulation.
Yea, it's still control
Yeah. That scares me to no end. But there's probably no stopping it. And it's coming.
The core technologies appear to already be here. It's the science more than anything at this point.
Would you guys say yes to the memory devices in black mirror?
I forgot what they were used for. I could use a memory implant, but I can see obvious potential issues.
Ever seen Ghost in the Shell?
I haven't yet
You should. The original 1995 movie is a classic.
Yea, I was considering the manga
I'll watch the movie soon though
Acting as if the FBI are in the interest of American Justice anymore
We cyberpunk now lads
Oh hell yes
what about changing the DNA of an adult though?
if its in their best interest?
Probably alot more difficult
Is it even possible?
Easier to do it to a baby when its just an ovu,
I don't think so.
I believe that CRISPR/Cas9 method has been proven to work on modifying DNA?
basically you do what virusses do, and chunk away a part of the DNA strand and replace it with the one you wanna implement,
but i meant ethics-wise
I'm just trying to think how you would rewrite essentially every cell in the body without killing the patient.
