Another thing that I'm looking forward to is neuralink

2018-07-17 07:06:08 UTC

I don't think it's that world-changing either. If only because there's already approaches to the almost the same outcome.

2018-07-17 07:06:21 UTC

Incremental change as oppsed to revolutionary.

2018-07-17 07:07:19 UTC

Neuralink sounds like the future of the human race

2018-07-17 07:07:31 UTC

But maybe I'm too optimistic

2018-07-17 07:08:38 UTC

Honestly having something implanted into my head that can interface with a computer makes me really uncomfortable

2018-07-17 07:08:46 UTC

/Really/ uncomfortable

2018-07-17 07:09:08 UTC

I'm not so bothered by the idea of interfacing with a neural interface.

2018-07-17 07:09:28 UTC

I'm more bothered by what it could imply other people could do or what technologies needed to make it happen might enable.

2018-07-17 07:09:42 UTC

Give me read access and I can gain write access.

2018-07-17 07:09:50 UTC

It's more the physical implanting into my head

2018-07-17 07:09:52 UTC

And that's terrifying IMO

2018-07-17 07:09:53 UTC

that makes me uncomfortable

2018-07-17 07:09:57 UTC

then interfacing with anything

2018-07-17 07:10:01 UTC

Yea that's the thing. On one hand it means incredible progress
On the other hand it means a person with enough power can control you

2018-07-17 07:10:20 UTC

It doesn't even have to be direct control. It's more like foolproof manipulation.

2018-07-17 07:10:30 UTC

Yea, it's still control

2018-07-17 07:10:53 UTC

Yeah. That scares me to no end. But there's probably no stopping it. And it's coming.

2018-07-17 07:11:15 UTC

The core technologies appear to already be here. It's the science more than anything at this point.

2018-07-17 07:11:31 UTC

Would you guys say yes to the memory devices in black mirror?

2018-07-17 07:12:08 UTC

I forgot what they were used for. I could use a memory implant, but I can see obvious potential issues.

2018-07-17 07:12:15 UTC

Ever seen Ghost in the Shell?

2018-07-17 07:12:22 UTC

I haven't yet

2018-07-17 07:12:39 UTC

You should. The original 1995 movie is a classic.

2018-07-17 07:12:57 UTC

Yea, I was considering the manga

2018-07-17 07:13:08 UTC

I'll watch the movie soon though

2018-07-17 07:19:33 UTC

LMFAO

Acting as if the FBI are in the interest of American Justice anymore

2018-07-17 07:34:27 UTC

We cyberpunk now lads

2018-07-17 07:36:38 UTC

Oh hell yes

2018-07-17 07:46:04 UTC

what about changing the DNA of an adult though?

2018-07-17 07:46:11 UTC

if its in their best interest?

2018-07-17 07:49:55 UTC

Probably alot more difficult

2018-07-17 07:49:56 UTC

Is it even possible?

2018-07-17 07:50:09 UTC

Easier to do it to a baby when its just an ovu,

2018-07-17 07:50:18 UTC

I don't think so.

2018-07-17 07:51:30 UTC

I believe that CRISPR/Cas9 method has been proven to work on modifying DNA?

basically you do what virusses do, and chunk away a part of the DNA strand and replace it with the one you wanna implement,

but i meant ethics-wise

2018-07-17 07:51:45 UTC

I'm just trying to think how you would rewrite essentially every cell in the body without killing the patient.
