I think people do use the term incorrectly, to a degree, which is why it has such a strong connotation to it.

Personally I wish that pedophiles could feel safer seeking help from professionals, but it seems near impossible a way to really make that possible without risking normalizing pedophilia

I think it's possible for someone to seek help, but with the stigma attached to it (and it evokes a strong negative reaction from most people) I can see why some would choose to just not talk about it at all.

I think pedophilia is probably much more common than people think, just like many people have violent fantasies. I mean look at Japan, or look at what happens in the countries where pedophilia is not as demonized. Or look at ancient Rome
