Moloch, duh
Yes.
cool
like i said, beliefs are unconsciously informed, he found a organized religion that resonates with his subconscious beliefs on how the world should work
I like this plan.
If someone is superstitious to the point of criminal leanings, give them superstitions helpful to us.
i think my biggest problem with atheism is that when people get too into it it starts becoming the worst parts of being overtly-religious. in my lifetime the biggest earful about beliefs i have gotten has consistently been atheists, and i've known some pretty possessed religious folks
But imposing that on the rest of us is akin to ENFORCING 50+ PRONOUNS.
thats why i like niel degrasse, his whole 'listen im agnostic, idc, i just do science'
"Okay everyone. Learn the pronouns. Some of us are **fucking crazy.**"
>believing in one corner gods
My sermon is this: do not create philosophical weapons that can be turned on you.
```thats why i like niel degrasse, his whole 'listen im agnostic, idc, i just do science'````
And that's also kinda religious because he believes in a "higher power", the Power of Science in this case 😉
Just because many atheists are pompous assholes doesn't mean atheism has anything wrong with it
Atheism is just as simple as not believing in gods. nothing more too it than that
There will be blood was a good movie
people having some sort of system they adhere to isn't bad stefan, argument with tyson is its a fairly logical and flexible one. most the ills of religion have to do with infelxibility
Did you like it @Scribblehatch ?
@Ottobon That's my experience too. Except the religious types have sorta learned to moderate a bit. The Atheists I know will outright discriminate and harass people out. You don't want to see some of the discussions I've heard at various Universities. Often from places like the Admissions Office and Bias Reponse Team.
@Schedrevka
It has at there are no values, no bringing people together, just the shit we see right now with the political dividie.
We're not really going into the "science is a religion too" nonsense I hope
Religion doesn't have a monopoly on 'bringing people together'
Well, isn't it? 😉
It's just a traditional way of doing it
I think if you want to make an argument you have to decide on definitions first.
Wewlad
You need to have a philosophy of some kind.
Really, alot of these kinds of fights are clarified if everyone can agree to some definitions and limits on the discussion first.
Science promises no philosophy at all.
I'll bet that more or less everyone is working off something different.
True, @pratel I agree with that.
So lets define Religion with a thing that brings people together, gives them a reason to live and chain the beast inside of them.
When is the guy who's going to parrot Jordan Peterson's "whatever you care about and believe in is ur god lol" shit going to turn up?
That's a nonsensical definition
the angriest, sadest, most viscious person i avoid in my normal gaming discord is a hardline aitheist, ofc im not dumb enough to think all aitheists are like this. most of the nicer and more interesting people are also aitheist, but two of them in particular are also in the Middle East and have more valid reasons to hate religion then said angry-gamer American Aitheist guy, yet both of them are like 'o wow i like these intellectual darkweb things you sent me about religion', meanwhile angry American guy just reposts his own sentiment in more extreme ways over and over again....
Thats more a commentary on choosing not to look into other views and viewing everything as a argument rather then a debate tho
But packing the philosophy in with a bunch of fucking nonsense that TOO MANY people take literally. I'll never go in for it.
It's like when people try to define communism as "a successful system that..."
Enforce the emphasis on metaphor.
@Stefan Payne I can agree with that. But then it would include things like nationalism or hobbies.
Then your religion is okay.
