2019-12-21 13:41:54 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

the axis of rotation of the earth is tilted, so there are periods where the north-/southpole have sunlight during the nights too

2019-12-21 13:42:12 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

if that is not what you believe, what do you believe then?

2019-12-21 13:42:30 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

evidence? please

2019-12-21 13:42:49 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

do you have evidence?

2019-12-21 13:43:42 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I'd say most of it

2019-12-21 13:43:53 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

yea

2019-12-21 13:44:05 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I dont see the evidence yet

2019-12-21 13:44:47 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

movement is relative, so you'd need something to compare it with, and in this case you'd have to use the other planets or the sun

2019-12-21 13:45:46 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

the earth isnt moving relative to itself, because thats like saying you arent moving when you're walking, because you're only comparing you to yourself

2019-12-21 13:46:26 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

*relative to itself, yes*
*relative to the rest of the universe, no*

2019-12-21 13:47:27 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

imagine you have three cars, one is standing still, one drives at 10mph, and one at 20mph
relative from the 10mph car, the 0mph car is moving with -10mph, so yea, movement is relative

2019-12-21 13:48:04 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

that would mean that you have a huge coordinate grid of the entire universe, which doesnt exist

2019-12-21 13:48:25 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

you cant speak about absolute movement on that scale

2019-12-21 13:48:34 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

define real space please

2019-12-21 13:49:00 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

how

2019-12-21 13:49:19 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

you cant tell the speed if you only have one object, you need to have something to compare it with

2019-12-21 13:49:40 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

yes, its moving with 10mph, relative to the surface of the earth

2019-12-21 13:51:12 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

if you're running on a treadmill, you're not moving relative to the surface of the earth, but you are moving relative to the conveyor belt

2019-12-21 13:51:52 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

relative to the surface of the earth, yea, the earth doesnt move, because you cant tell the speed if you're only comparing something to itself

2019-12-21 13:52:31 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

if you were floating through space, without anything around you, would you be able to tell if you were moving or not?

2019-12-21 13:53:38 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

then what is that void between the earth, sun, planets and other objects out there?

2019-12-21 13:54:24 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

then where are the sun, planets and other objects out there?

2019-12-21 13:54:30 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

they're not on the earth

2019-12-21 13:54:33 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

they're above it

2019-12-21 13:55:02 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

in the sky? explain why they dont fall down and crash into the earth please

2019-12-21 13:55:58 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

so you cant provide any evidence or explanations?

2019-12-21 13:56:14 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

in that case I think my arguments are more valid, because I did have explanations

2019-12-21 13:56:48 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I'd like to hear the story you believe, not some weird fictional story

2019-12-21 13:57:39 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

then give me the science

2019-12-21 13:57:45 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I prefer science too

2019-12-21 13:58:10 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

sure

2019-12-21 13:58:47 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

thats partially correct, we havent proven that they are *in* the sky

2019-12-21 13:58:57 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I think they're way higher than that

2019-12-21 13:59:22 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

ok, agreed

2019-12-21 14:02:32 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

the brightest object is the sun, I'm sure about that
red/green flashy things are planes, I'm sure about that too
the moon is the moon, I think everyone can recognise the moon
small glowing dots that arent moving (not visible at least) are starts
small glowing dots that *are* moving are satellites, and they can be visible with the naked eye if there isnt too much light pollution
and the brightest of those satellites is the ISS, that one is brighter than most stars

2019-12-21 14:03:13 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

and bright fast moving objects that quickly vanish are asteroids crashing into the atmosphere

2019-12-21 14:03:29 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

label? hmm, I'd say identify

2019-12-21 14:04:02 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

can you prove to me that those things arent what I just "labelled" them?

2019-12-21 14:04:20 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

no, the sun is a definition

2019-12-21 14:04:51 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

```
Sun
1. (often initial capital letter) the star that is the central body of the solar system, around which the planets revolve and from which they receive light and heat: its mean distance from the earth is about 93 million miles (150 million km), its diameter about 864,000 miles (1.4 million km), and its mass about 330,000 times that of the earth; its period of surface rotation is about 26 days at its equator but longer at higher latitudes.
```

2019-12-21 14:05:38 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

that is *the* definition of that glowing orb in the sky

2019-12-21 14:07:11 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

```
2. the sun considered with reference to its position in the sky, its visibility, the season of the year, the time at which or the place where it is seen, etc.
3. a self-luminous heavenly body; star.
```

2019-12-21 14:07:25 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

also definitions of that same glowing orb

2019-12-21 14:09:09 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

people call those smaller lights "suns" too, but *the* sun is that big glowing orb

2019-12-21 14:09:59 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

ok, can you tell me what you think they are?

2019-12-21 14:11:52 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

ok, so you wont have any theories at all, to compare mine with?
hmm, sad

2019-12-21 14:13:24 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

but you do have opinions on theories, correct?

2019-12-21 14:15:30 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

but stories that have been proven by science

2019-12-21 14:16:09 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

"earth is flat" is also just a story, which you believe ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

2019-12-21 14:16:50 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

hypothesis is what they call those stories, and then you either prove or debunk the hypothesis

2019-12-21 14:18:32 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I can have the hypothesis "if I throw a brick out of the window it will float away"
and I can try that by indeed throwing a brick out of the window, and then I'll prove that the hypothesis is wrong, because the brick just falls to the ground

2019-12-21 14:20:01 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

in short: a ball of gas, that is fusing the hydrogen to helium, which results in a lot of heat/light radiation

2019-12-21 14:21:12 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

we've analysed the light that comes from the sun, and compared it to fusion done by humans, on earth, and it was the exact same radiation, so yes, it is indeed doing some form of nuclear fusion

2019-12-21 14:22:36 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

if the radiation from the sun was different than from our experiments, you could prove that it is something else

2019-12-21 14:23:50 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

and thus debunk the hypothesis

2019-12-21 14:25:50 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I can see that it is a ball/circle from here

2019-12-21 14:26:42 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

we can't reproduce the activity, because that would need a huge gravitational force, which we dont have on earth
but we can smash atoms into eachother to create nuclear fusion

2019-12-21 14:29:03 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

I can see that it is a circle, and combined with the knowledge that gas will always collapse into a ball, I'm pretty sure it it a ball
and we have sent multiple satellites into space, to show that it is a ball

2019-12-21 14:30:28 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

if I show you a ball, how can you tell its a ball, you only see a circle, the front of a ball is a circle

2019-12-21 16:17:24 UTC [The Ice Wall #civil-debate]

partially correct
the (angular) speed stays the same, but the direction changes
