Honestly... not surprised. Florida man strikes again. Whatever you think about what happened, the Florida man part is hilarious.

Made this last night!

Hey, everyone! I’m deciding high school classes, and I just wanted to know if anyone had suggestions on electives (just general subjects) that might be fun to me, someone who has no idea what they want to do with their life and who is taking a lot of difficult classes (and expecting a lot of homework). Even if it’s not suggestions for freshman classes, but instead classes to keep an eye on when I get older, it would be appreciated. I just want to try to find something I enjoy but idk what that is.
Also, what do you guys think is more important, taking biology honors or algebra 2 honors? I don’t really want to take both honors classes because I’m already taking so many. The alternatives for both are biology and algebra 2 (so more normal classes). Also, I should let everyone know, I’m new to discord and I don’t know exactly how it works, so let me know if I screw something up lol. Sorry this is so long!

Also I know I asked about course suggestions and you all don’t know me, so I mean I can tell you a little more about myself and my hobbies if that helps (obviously not personal info though ofc).

<@342170731091722241> like this? Sorry, I’m not great with this! Also, thank you.

That’s good to know. I’m just so concerned about homework since while I’m determined to do well in high school and get some college credits, I still want to have a high school experience that’s like an eighties movie lol

@DeButcher umm... well I like geometry this year a lot, and I do band and jazz band. I also like to write so LA.

@DeButcher lol so true. I was thinking of taking a business course this year but that means no jazz band. That’s where the problem lies; I can either do band and jazz, and not try a lot of new stuff, or I could drop jazz and try something new instead.

@DeButcher I’ve always tried really hard in school, getting straight As and staying in bridges classes. My main concern in high school is to not make the mistake Hermione Granger makes in Harry Potter by taking too many hard courses. I’m a nerd, sorry.

<@342170731091722241> thats really good advice actually.

Wow, I really am glad I’m talking to some geniuses! I’m hoping to knock out some AP classes. My parents straight up told me since I was young that I was paying for my own college so I should aim for a scholarship

<@342170731091722241> I’m going to be honest, I have no idea what that means.

<@342170731091722241> ok thanks! We have something similar so I think I get what you mean.

You know though if I want into college all I have to do is take my school’s social justice class, then I’ll get into any school I want lol. I’m not actually wasting my time on that though ofc.

The only thing that I find very annoying about the diploma I’m going for which is an academic honors one is the world languages it requires. I mean this year I’m learning Spanish from a book since I’m homeschooled for just this year due to the ‘rona. It’s just as difficult as it sounds. Also thanks for the suggestions to go into a business course, as much as I love jazz, you are right, and I do want to try new things.

@DeButcher Will do!

@I’m doing Spanish 2 next year then two years of German, which is enough to get me what I need. The good thing is that Spanish can be easy but I’m learning from a book.

@DeButcher That’s my goal. I used to get so stressed in school, completely overwhelmed with perfectionism. I’ve learned to get better with that but it is something I have to be reminded of from time to time. Also yeah I’m entering hs, going into 9th grade next year.

So currently 8th

<@342170731091722241> will do. Also I’m really good with my grades. Because I don’t have a clue what I want to do, I’ve basically decided that I must do well in every class so when I see an opportunity for something I like, I can qualify for it.

Get this- this class is a semester long and earns you a credit. Ofc, I don’t have time to become an SJW but I like to fantasize about upending the whole class w facts and logic.

I have to memorize a speech I wrote for competition. Please someone tell me I can do this. It’s eight minutes long and I have to have it recorded by Thursday. Someone tell me to stop looking at memes

@Kyrix A perfect idea

@DeButcher I have two out of five paragraphs memorized. The biggest problem is that we’re submitting videos, so I have to waste time getting a perfect recording. Unfortunately we’re not allowed to use notecards, but I might use one for practice until I can speak without it. I just want my speech to go over better than last year’s which was called “Don’t Tread on Me”. The judges weren’t pleased!

@Donald(KvyatFan26) I believe it can. I found an old pdf that had to do with monomials and it counts “10” as a monomial. I also found a book with a definition of polynomials and everything and it seems to makes sense that a constant alone is a monomial. I can send pictures if you like, though I know I’m late in answering the question and you may be done by now.

@BunkerHermit let me go look at my old algebra work.

@BunkerHermit You sure? I’m taking geometry this year and Algbera 2 next year, so it is sort of a helpful to me to rewiew it. Unless you have the answer, but I don’t mind is what I’m saying

@BunkerHermit Ok! Just one thing about functions- the best way to tell if something is a function is by graphing it and seeing if it passes the vertical line test- if you can draw a vertical line on the graph without it going through two points, since that would mean x has two y values. Let me send just one picture because I’m a little excited (I forgot this). Also I’m in eighth grade too so cool

Oh ok lol 😂 I’m just glad I learned something from algebra. That class was... not my favorite

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/801170141907386408/808052013664829490/image0.jpg

I sent the image so then if anyone else needs it they have it btw since it’s a handy little trick

Haha <:thinking:726878987837636698>

@2Lazy2BeOriginal Yes. I actually forgot that so I’m glad this became a discussion lol.

That’s me alllll the time in school

@2Lazy2BeOriginal I it is because you can’t calculate m (the slope) so it all gets screwed up. If you have to prove it, then you would use that formula that calculates slope, y2 - y1 over x2 - x1. Then it’ll always end up as some y value over zero, since the x values are equivalent to each other and when subtracted will always make zero, and any number over zero is undefined since you cannot divide by zero.

Idk if this is what you needed or if this was your question, but if you have two points on a line, you can use the slope formula (y2 - y1 over x2 - x1) to find the slope. So if you have two points you can do that.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/801170141907386408/808147229692657704/image0.jpg

If you’re given a graph, you can count between two points using rise over run though I know graphs aren’t always given. Also Idk if this even answers your question lol. I might’ve misunderstood

That’s good, wish I could’ve been more helpful. Good luck! @ me if you need anything because I might have an answer (possibly, lol).

I kept my old algebra notes and I’m currently going through them myself so having a question to answer helps me review.

At least you have a good attitude about it. I know so many people who would lose their minds about one bad or potentially bad grade. Good luck!

@BunkerHermit I would find statistics. You’ll have to Google this, but I heard once that most shootings happen in no carry zones. You could then use the statistics about how many shooters are stopped by lawful gun carriers. Then you could push a thesis that it isn’t guns that kill people, it’s crazy people. Make guns and lawful gun owners the heroes. There are other statistics too and other arguments that I have. @ me for them! Also, do you have a rubric for this assignment and what grade level is it?

@BunkerHermit Another few ideas here. Go to procon.org btw, it can be helpful. Also I would look at the article from the Daily Wire just a few days ago called “Four dangerous new democrat bills you probably haven’t heard of”. One of them is a very radical gun control bill. I would mention that it is good for women too. Women are biologically weaker than men and are more prone to being victims of violent crimes since they simply cannot defend themselves the same way a guy can (and you could find data for the biological stuff). You could make an argument that restricting guns makes women vulnerable and lose a sense of security. Finally, you could always use the example that we restrict drugs and they still pour into the country. If we restrict guns they also will still come in illegally. So, we need good peopke to have access to firearms to protect themselves. I know this is a lot of random info and again idk the requirements for your essay but I’m pretty good at writing and forming arguments so @ me if you want!

@sixfivebyfiftyfive I’ll read it here. 👍

That was really good! One thing I noticed- I think it was the second to last paragraph, you said “propper” instead of “proper”. One other thing, for your conclusion, you started with “So in summary” and personally I would cut the so for grammatical reasons. Even that is debatable so usually I use “All in all” or “ultimately” to kick off my conclusion (that’s just me though). Otherwise, looks great!

Np 👌

One question could you see what my email was when I went on the doc? I just want to make sure my that isn’t the case lol.

Ok thanks!

Prager University burned her like BLM burns cities

BREAKING NEWS- Gina Carano signed a movie deal w the Daily Wire!!!! 🥳

@DishonoredRonin Thanks, gotta love Firefly

Hey does anyone have Spanish 1 final study guides or materials? I have to study for my final and I’ll be searching the internet for study materials but I was wondering if you all had anything really good. I also was wondering what exactly might be on the final, like what I can expect.

@DeButcher thats the thing, I have no idea. I’m homeschooled this year only, and I have to take the final because I’m going to high school next year. I’ve been learning Spanish from Duolingo and a book which is just as bad as it sounds, and Idek what’s on the test. All I know is that I have to get at least a B minus.

I’m going to be studying like crazy

I’m going to contact the Spanish teacher at my middle school but I haven’t yet

I have to go to the high school to take it. I’m want to take Spanish 2 next year because of the diploma I’m going for, so I have to score well and actually understand it.

Yeah. If I learn vocabulary words that aren’t on it then I might as well be learning a different language.

I’ll likely be asking some questions on here about Spanish grammar and stuff like that, so I hope you all know something about Spanish.

😂

But if anyone has go to websites for Spanish 1 practice resources and tests, or any tips, please @ me!!! I need a B minus or above but screw it I’m going to get a freakin A and I’m not going to settle for less.

Good luck, buddy

Trust me, it helps! I have to learn what nouns I need to learn (clothing, food, whatever) and all sorts of other stuff, so it does help lol. I’ve spent the past hour or so just saving resources as bookmarks.

Thank you SO much! I have hardly any resources from this year since I’ve been homeschooled and no one in my family speaks Spanish. I’ve been trying to look up the standards, find quizlets and youtube videos, find short stories, etc. since I am in so much need of practice.

I haven’t learned that and I think I need to, I watched a youtube video that was a review for the final so I would know what I need to study, and that was one of them. I don’t know anything about past tense and I need to

You have no idea how helpfuk you are.

So do you mean like knowing grandma, grandpa, cousins, etc. type stuff?

I literally cannot express how thankful I am for your help. You have no idea how nervous I am for this test, I have to get a good grade to get the credits, get into Spanish 2, and work towards my academic honors diploma.

I don’t want to be annoying but can you retake the picture

Sorry lol! Yeah I’m in middle school and I’m going into high school next year, so I don’t want to have to retake Spanish 1.

You are my favorite person today.

Haha lol

Really now???

That would be helpful (and hopefully not too much work for you?)

Oh also one thing, this is a more specific Spanish question- how do you say anything like “she and I” in Spanish? Also thank you!

But like together like “She and I went to the store” or something like that?

Oh!!! Oh that makes sense!!!!

Thank you!

👌

Thanks! I’ll study hard and hope it’s easy (and pray too)

I GOT FIRST AT MY SPEECH COMPETITION!! Thank you to all of you who gave me advice and made me stop procrastinating. Even just talking to some of you a little bit was really helpful to me since it helped me to take a break so I could focus.

Original oratory. Do you do speech?

My friend does extemp!

A red one (I don’t really wanna say sorry).

In the midwest

Ahhh

Usually I double in impromptu but that wasn’t an option this year

But imromptu has less time!! <:thinking:726878987837636698>

It will be ok! 🙃

I gotta have that first amendment handy.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/801170175511887968/812411858820530216/image0.png

What type of math is it? I can help in algebra and geometry (probably lol)

I’m sorry, I haven’t taken algebra two yet. I wish I could help! The only help I might be able to offer is to suggest that you use a graphing calculator, if this is a problem that could use one. I wouldn’t know if it even is, the idea just popped into my head. Sorry

Good luck buddy

Hey so I was wondering why some channels disappear for short periods of time and then come back. I’m not very familiar with discord so idk what’s going on. Sometimes the academic support channel and work and school memes are gone for a bit and then come back. Just curious why 🙃

@DarkSkyKEC thank you so much! I could never figure out what was happening!

@Conminer47 I’ve been in a similar situation. I’ve been homeschooled this past year by my parents, except it turns out homeschooling isn’t great for me. I’m actually struggling in Spanish too. I’ve also had some troubke with my friends, not because they’ve been mean, but because they never talk to me. They’ve all been in public school while I’ve been stuck at home. When it comes to motivation, the best thing I can suggest is to decide success. This is something I have to do myself. I had to write a speech for a club I’m in, speech and debate. I emailed my coach and told him I was aiming for the top, then I had to work to make that happen.

I get really sluggish sometimes and don’t finish all of my work still. Just hear this- it will be ok. It will get better. I know that seems impossible, I tell myself that all the time and feel like laughing at myself. But none of this is your fault or mine, and (I’m assuming) we’ve both have had little instruction on how to deal with our loneliness and lack of motivation. But even our graded this year, while we want to do our best, can be caught up next year and made up for. Whenever I need motivated, I try to be like my favorite characters in shows and books. Whether that’s Hermione Granger or Katsuki Bakugo (MHA) I find it helps, even if it might be a little silly. It’s about finding the traits these characters have that you admire most- for example, Katsuki Bakugo from MHA is no angel, yet he is my favorite character since he works hard for success and won’t settle for less. I try to replicate this trait of his when working on school work. Again, kinda silly, but ever since I was young I tried this kinda thing as a strategy. But overall point- it will be ok and none of this is your fault.

I’m not even speaking as someone who has it all figured out, I’m in the same boat as you. I don’t want it to sound wrong. I’m actually procrastinating right now a heavy load of home work. Jeez, I write too much. Should’ve condensed everything I just said. I’ll wrap this up by saying that I’ll be praying for you, that everything gets better. Good luck with everything! Idk if you’re a Christian but this verse is good, even if you’re not. “Consider it pure joy whenever you face trials of many kinds.” -James 1:2. I think this verse is pretty good whether you’re a Christian or not.

It just means to make the most as best you can and try to avoid stress by making it a privilege to face a trial and overcome it. Good luck again
