Hey folks! Anyone from southern AZ?
@Deleted User tell me how you really feel.
@Saint nice. I'm from Tucson.
I can't stand Vegas but other parts are nice.
That is nuts. Keep yourself safe and make a snowman for me @I Know a Fat Guy
What are you Canadian or something?
Ah. Same diff then.
Midwest might as well be Siberia
@Saint are you a trucker?
Cool
Do you like it?
Nice. I've always thought that was a job I could get into.
I like driving.
Yeah that is a lot of what the CDL is about right? All the rules?
Yeah
Why?
Oh thanks man but I am going my own way. Happy with the path I'm on.
I've just always thought about it as one of those things I might have done if my life had gone a different way 10 years ago.
Appreciate the offer though
Are you worried about automated trucks?
In 5-10 years?
All the stuff at each end
?
@I Know a Fat Guy <I think there is a test for driving while high>
Nah, there is only a test for cannabis metabolites in the bloodstream. They can take several days to clear, whereas the high only lasts a few hours. You could smoke one joint on your porch on a Saturday evening and test positive driving home from work on Monday. It would be great if they had a test for whether you had smoked within the last few hours but I don't believe that exists yet.
@Lord Zedd where do you live? $1k would rent you a 3bed house where I am.
@Sanpe no, the whole idea behind UBI is that it is unconditional--that's the Universal part of Universal Basic Income. A billionaire gets the same $12k a year that a homeless junkie gets. So there is no disincentive to increase income.
Don't work at all, your income is $12k. Get a part time job and make $15k more, you're still getting your $12k UBI so you are up to $27k.
It would definitely cause inflation and the workforce would shrink, among other likely problems, but the welfare trap thing is not one of them.
Yes, no one has argued that it wouldn't.
A little under $3T a year by my estimate, if you go by adult US citizens.
Which is the large majority of the entire federal budget.
So yeah, it's bad.
@SpanishAbbey whatever, he can be crazy if he wants; I'm just talking policy.
Joo Conspiracists are all over these days, I'm used to it.
There's also the idea that the warming is happening faster than it has in the past which is not going to allow the plant life to shift zones fast enough, which could create a mass die off.
I think we have real environmental problems like soil erosion, plastic pollution, overfishing and deforestation/desertification that we could be focusing on far more productively.
Yes
The AGW fear is an implacable an existential threat that lends itself to keeping the population in paralyzed anxiety rather than galvanized to action.
We don't need to go to Congo, we can reforest and repair watersheds in the American west first.
Would make our water supplies and ecologies far more resilient
My state has huge tracts of land badly degraded by overgrazing of cattle that could use serious restoration.
I believe in acting locally.
Greening the Sahara would be great, don't get me wrong--I just want Africans to take the lead on it.
That's excellent. I know there have been some good results from experimental cattle driving practices in Africa too where they mimic the behavior of predators to force the cattle to clump up and move around more frequently--it gives the landscape more time to recover between being trampled and grazed and it helps restore arid grasslands.
I would do something like that here if I were a billionaire or king of America
Buy up millions of acres and designate them as Terrain Protected Zones
It works great for fisheries, no reason it wouldn't work for land too
Our extensive National Forest system is a good start
I don't think so
There are accounts of explorers being able to walk across the whole continental US without leaving the forest in the 1700s
We've got some pretty big prairies in the middle these days
We might be close though
And prairie is good anyway
Doesn't all have to be trees
Probably
Kind of like with racial discrimination I think the culture pulls ahead, then the government steps in and passes a law that is no longer necessary and takes all the credit.
Well I am not an extremist Libertarian but we've swung too hard the other direction so we need to pull that way.
Do you mean profitize?
Yeah that would be great.
I'm hoping the microbes evolve to eat all our plastics
In the ocean?
Well they like the water warming up
Cleaning up the plastic would save a lot of sea turtles and birds
The problem is not what to do with the plastic, it's how to collect it economically in the first place.
It's not actually in a cohesive lump, it's just a huge region with lots of plastic bits floating loose
Oh
There's no real need, once they eat all the trash they'll die off
That poor child is already damaged irreparably. Not saying he can't be helped but he is 99% not going to grow up to be a healthy and functional adult.
I don't know but I wouldn't put it past those weirdos. The dad is seriously creepy.
Wow. I read the whole thing. He redpilled hard.
OD'd on that pill I'd say.
@Salacious Swanky Cat possibly because closing your eyes to the reasons people choose this kind of path is dangerous in itself.
@cap'n creamery you're a sociopath. Good job letting everyone know.
I dunno I read the document as *extremely* relevant to the current racial-political situation
It's not like you need an expensive optic to take potshots at unarmed civilians from 5 yards.
Or he used the cheapest steel cases he could buy
Or both
Maybe. I only watched a minute or so.
Got the idea pretty quickly.
I just took my new AR from PSA out to the hills on Tuesday to get it sighted in.
Was very pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to shoot.
Rifles all my life. But first time with an AR
I am used to shooting 60 year old hunting long rifles so it feels like a feather
My .22 LR is significantly heavier
And barely less recoil. That buffer spring really smooths it out.
16" carbine
With a Sig Romeo5 red dot
Great for the price. I don't like the lack of flip up covers though.
I am going to lose the separate one for sure
Next one I want to set up for longer ranges with like a 2-7x scope and a 20" barrel
Then an AR10, then I am salivating over the Rock Island VR80
On the 20"
?
Yeah my least favorite part of my AR so far is that the adjustable stock rattles.
Traditionally masculine white male would be my guess as to the 'looks' they are referring to.
If I was trying you'd know. ;)
Seriously though, what a weird thing for them to say
Did you get the impression that they *do* believe women are suffering under an oppressive conspiracy?
Sigh
Then what, it is their job to override yours?
Why were you even hanging out with these people lol
