If you have a blog where you post stories for free of ideas that seem to get rejected, you are basically starting to build a portfolio if you want to get a job, but also create a change to build your own fan base. Then you can move towards things like patreon and YouTube.

An article from a blog or news agency can only tell you what and how that blog or news agency is reporting on, not likely the facts about what they are actually reporting on. Those you need to dig through their soruces and read those.
