Thank you, Iโ€™m so indebted to all of you for your conversation. I look forward to the future

I second that, it was tremendously insightful @Yussuki โ‚ช

This word is so strange

I suspect sharia law is simply a synthesis and codification of Muslim doctrines from various sources of Muslim authority

Idk tho

Thatโ€™s what I understood kaizen to be saying

> Fatwah not so much
Itโ€™s quite funny that him nuancing his description triggered the responses it did

Fun

Thatโ€™s hilarious

Kinda sucks

Itโ€™s hilariously ridiculous

I donโ€™t think most religions ever address this specific situation

Wait, didnโ€™t Sayer actually consent?

But thereโ€™s a distinction there due to civil vs criminal distinction

I donโ€™t agree with the law, but itโ€™s not irrational

โ€œThe court stated that the state's interest in ensuring that a minor receives child support outweighed its interest in potentially deterring sexual crimes against minors.โ€ Not a bad argument @BobbyMack

Itโ€™s not rape if it was consensual regardless of age imo

Under criminal law sure, under civil maybe not

I made an important distinction tho in my follow up

Under criminal law it should be considered rape perhaps. Iโ€™m just trying to rationalize on the spot so bare with me

Perhaps it can be true simultaneously that he was rapped but still has the civil responsibility to assist in the raising of the child

How much is child support anyway?

Im at school rn too

So I canโ€™t vc

> I donโ€™t think that responsibility applies when he didnโ€™t consent to conceiving the child
@kaizen I would disagree there. You have a responsibility for the child you bear regardless of circumstance

I think itโ€™s a necessity for a society to hold that position in order to function kaizen

12:30

West coast US

What if the consenting party is unable to raise the child? (idk if that was the case in this case but thatโ€™s just a question)

Iโ€™d agree there. If youโ€™re rapping a child with the malicious intent of getting support than it is a different circumstance. I think Iโ€™ve come to an impasse in my thoughts and have to think about it more

Thanks for the discussion

Iโ€™ll hop in the vc and just listen if thatโ€™s alright

Jordanโ€™s sick rn. His status is kinda too high to talk with us too

Enjoyed the discussion, thanks

what a petersonian statement

Thatโ€™d be a really interesting discussion to have, because the fact that all institutions corrupt is an observation that I point out often. I think listening to your ideas and engaging those would be fun, so hit me up

@m.miller I would politely ask for your grace in these free will discussions. This is such a foundational issue for a lot of people, and talking things out is a way of moving forward. I understand from the small picture that I have of your story that certain values you have are tremendously important to the way you view the world, In the same way that free will functions in a world like mine. Itโ€™s painful to get bogged down and go in circles, but I would hope that we all bare with each otherโ€™s pitfalls and stumbling blocks

Because religion describes things which are metaphysical, I think thatโ€™s the main objection

Yea ik, itโ€™s one of the big gaps in common atheistic reasoning

I use the word common with purpose of course

Peterson has a good description on the different between men and women relating to this

Oh dear, you guys are arguing over sex differences? Hope thereโ€™s a Peterson fan in there

Wouldnโ€™t you say that gender is influenced by biology Zino?

> Sex is biological. Gender is social.
@Yussuki โ‚ช ok, this threw me off a bit. Gender is influenced by culture but not entirely, so I was just clearing that up

Can you modify the sex of an unborn child?

I wasnโ€™t aware this was possible

I would say a person is modifying sex if you change the sex of an unborn child

I would also say that surgery or hormone replacement by transgender people is also sex impacted by culture

> Yes you can Zurich. And also pick the eye color ๐Ÿ™‚
@Yussuki โ‚ช Wow, thatโ€™s fascinating, Iโ€™ll have to do research on that

Iโ€™ve often wondered about wether parents will customize their children like avatars in a video game sometime in the future

Iโ€™m absolutely staggered by that. Iโ€™m gonna chew on that for awhile, thanks for the article

Lol

Fun

That would be a fun conversation to listen to

Talking about the characteristics of worldview collapse would be a good place to start

You should be able to answer his very simple question very succinctly and persuasively if youโ€™re so knowledgeable

Yes, age of consent is 18

โ€œThe age of consent in Switzerland is 16, as specified by the Swiss Federal Criminal Code, Article 187(1). However, there exists a close-in-age exception if the difference between the ages of the participants is three years or less (Article 187(2)).โ€

There is an exception for that 3 year age gap difference

Feels like a slow Friday

In the Philippines, all of the big shopping malls have security guards with assault rifles at the entrances and no one is bothered, theyโ€™ll give directions and such. Weaponry scales with crime rates

Dude, Shapiro v. Loki debate would be sick

You should try to soften your diction to facilitate discussion better, and you arenโ€™t even referring to any idea which has been yet spoken in this chat @LokiV

> This idea could piggyback off of our discussion of objective/subjective morality. My question is: What are some preferred methods of speech/communication to illustrate gradations of morality? I hope we could agree that morality, even from our own standards can get into some grey areas. I guess this is where we could say the term โ€œmoral landscapeโ€ can be useful. With this short and sweet phrase we can cast a perspective on to morality that eludes to many things at once. Morality, complex and vast. Difficult to navigate. Appears different from where one is standing. It has paths to follow. One can easily get lost in itโ€™s difficult terrain. I like this pairing of landscape to morality.
@kcon415 I think we could develop this idea. I am an advocate of nuance within morality when speaking to Christians, and talking with you about nuanced morality via a landscape idea might be a way for me to better engage Sam Harrisโ€™ ideas

I think he describes the fraud as being Israeli genocide of Palestinians culminating in the Zionist movement, the culmination occurring the same year as the institution of the law against genocide.

Like you say zino, itโ€™s unclear what Loki wants as reparations from Israel

Iโ€™m reading up on the wwii era Israeli history rn, Iโ€™m not familiar with it

The history of the Jewish Aliyahs, or migrations into Palestine, from the late 1800s to about the 1940s is interesting. @LokiV you have to explain to me when this Zionist genocide occurred, because I have not come across it. It seems to me that the Jews in the Aliyahs all bought their land fairly from feudal lords, and that conflict only arose after Arabs instigated it with the increasing influx of Jews into Palestine

The novels on these sorts of stories are great too. The book thief is one of my favorite books

Also, the hiding place is quite popular, I havenโ€™t read it tho

Yea, I understand a few German families would hide them in their basements

Thatโ€™s a fat rip

@LokiV I hope you would have forgiveness for my mistake of not seeing DanDanโ€™s and others previous comments. I bursted into the discussion in an unhelpful manner

I do think some of your diction could discourage some from engaging in conversation

To stoneโ€™s point, Iโ€™m up to chat sometime this weekend

@LokiV what percentage of Americans are able to do such reading? Less than 10% without considerable time spent reading the relevant literature? Less than 5%? I donโ€™t think a democracy should only be run by those who have the intellect to both sustain themselves and simultaneously keep up on the excruciating detail which you keep up with. It is an impossibility

If they havenโ€™t been sued, then Iโ€™d think so

I am not aware, I figured no because I havenโ€™t seen a thousand headlines about it

> Anyone up for raiding Facebook HQ
@kaizen letโ€™s not get banned from discord lol

Iโ€™m looking forward to it as well, I need it as a growing man

How would one call โ€œFacebookโ€ a criminal?

Woah, someone made the pragmatist argument, Iโ€™ve been resisting for two weeks

I should probably do things in school, rather ironically, have fun

Iโ€™ll throw this in for the live chat if you all are still on the public school subject. The system is terrible at adapting to each individuals strengths and weaknesses, and this is one of its foundational problems

My school is consuming my life, wish I could talk more

Awesome, Iโ€™ll plan on it

We all engage each otherโ€™s views is how I see it. Perhaps weโ€™re all skeptical of each other

Iโ€™ve been impressed with the diversity for sure to add to Mackโ€™s point

Lol

The dog has a say. โ€œIโ€™m not determined!โ€

Hereโ€™s a covid story. We have a study hall period at my school. I asked my supervisor, who is the schoolโ€™s biology teacher, if a friend and I could work together at a large table opposite each other. She put her hand on her head in frustration, โ€œIโ€™ve been having to shut off my scientific brain and turn on my robot brain,โ€ she said, โ€œthe administration says no, and you have to sit outside if you want, but you have to sit next to each other and not facing.โ€ I responded, โ€œall of the masks and the distancing and the one way hallways are religious ritual to an invisible god, isnโ€™t it.โ€ โ€œIt sure is,โ€ she said.

All I wonder is how many of the precautions are more for psychological effect, especially considering that most people donโ€™t follow them strictly and the enforcement isnโ€™t 100%

God above, I have never taken selfies, but now completely get why people take a thousand of them before they post

Watch him do it though. More seriously, having Yang on this topic would be interesting

Is there a discord room or no?

We condemn it, then do it anyway and seek forgiveness. We suck at doing what we believe, thatโ€™s for sure

Iโ€™ve never heard a Christian use the Bible to explicitly support masturbation. They only say the Bible doesnโ€™t mention it directly
