Yes, for the vast majority of people they consider themselves either male or female, but there are a considerable amount of people who donโ€™t fall under either label. For example there are a lot of non-binary people who donโ€™t feel comfortable under either label and to say that there identity isnโ€™t real is hurtful and hateful. It does no harm to anyone to acknowledge a non-binary persons identity, so why not? If a person feels more comfortable living as they please then under either of the current restrictive labels, then why shouldnโ€™t they? Gender in itโ€™s nature is subjective anyway (this is different from sex), for example is short hair required for someone to be a biologist male, no but when we think of โ€œmenโ€ a lot of people might think of that. Is pink required for someone to be a biological women, yet again no but when we think of โ€œwomenโ€ a lot of people might think of this. Even in 19th century America, children, regardless of gender were referred to as girl until the age of 2 when they started to develop distinctive characteristics. Gender is subjective and inherently meaningless so yet again what harm does it do to acknowledge these people who donโ€™t feel comfortable under either of these restrictive and meaningless labels. There are even people who donโ€™t fall under either label biologically because of intersex people, how would you categorize them? The binary system of categerization, while it works for the majority of people there are a notable amount of people who donโ€™t fall under either and to not recognize their existence is hateful.

@qwasi this has nothing to do with the transgender community in this context, no matter whether they are MtF or FtM they still would call themseleves Male or Female

What I was originally talking about was how our binary notion of gender doesnโ€™t accomidate for non-binary or intersex people

@qwasi Idk off the top of my head but even if itโ€™s a small percentage how does that juatify their disrimination

@qwasi Thatโ€™s good that you would treat them equally but they arenโ€™t treated equally by everyone. They are told by many people around them that their identity and therefore they are invalid and thus they have disproportionately high suicide rates, depression rates and poverty rates. Inadvertently out societal perception of gender leads to their suffering

@qwasi Iโ€™m talking about non-binary and intersex people but there are a lot of similarities with the discrimination against trans people

@qwasi Well I have a trans friend personally, and youโ€™re entitled to make your own decisions but they are normal people who just feel more comfortable in the opposite gender

They are typically just like any other person

@qwasi Why do you thonk they are mentally ill

*think

A psychological state is considered a mental disorder only if it causes significant distress or disability. Many transgender people do not experience their gender as distressing or disabling, which implies that identifying as transgender does not constitute a mental disorder. For these individuals, the significant problem is finding affordable resources, such as counseling, hormone therapy, medical procedures and the social support necessary to freely express their gender identity and minimize discrimination. Many other obstacles may lead to distress, including a lack of acceptance within society, direct or indirect experiences with discrimination, or assault. These experiences may lead many transgender people to suffer with anxiety, depression or related disorders at higher rates than nontransgender persons.
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), people who experience intense, persistent gender incongruence can be given the diagnosis of "gender dysphoria." Some contend that the diagnosis inappropriately pathologizes gender noncongruence and should be eliminated. Others argue that it is essential to retain the diagnosis to ensure access to care. The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is under revision and there may be changes to its current classification of intense persistent gender incongruence as "gender identity disorder."

That is a quote from the American Pyschological Association

The only thing you could remotely consider mentall illness is gender disphroia, which isnโ€™t even mental illness itโ€™s just a term for someone who doesnโ€™t feel comfortable in their gender

Thatโ€™s literally one person

They are normal functional members of society who donโ€™t have mental illness

@Dr.Cosby Mentally ill people can be functional members of society but I was addressing two seperate points before

Yeah lol

Ok thanks

What a lovely post

Well then if you feel it misrepresents โ€œyour opponentsโ€ arguments then how do you feel

Well it goes both ways but thatโ€™s just a meme, I donโ€™t actually think of right wingers that way and Iโ€™m sure that you have some general stereotypes of lefties like I do of right wingers

Yeah

Well both political factions are fractured

Well at least in American politics there has been a new split in recent years on the left with the rise of Bernie Sanders and social democracy as an ideology

Yeah evangelicals are a massive part of the republican base

Yeah heโ€™s breaking every senate norm

Well heโ€™s refusing to vote on bills in the senate the house dems passed

Heโ€™s packed the federal courts and supreme court with Republican sympathetic judges

But heโ€™s been objectivly extremely more partisan than any previous Senate majority leader

Because McConnel refused to appoint any judges for the end of Obamas second term because heโ€™s that partisan, then with all the empty seats heโ€™s packed the courts with Republicans

Yeah

The manner in which he is packing the courts is abnormal

To absolutely refuse to vote on any judges that a president appoints destroys the fabric of democracy

@CoNtRoLeRbOt We are a representative Democracy and also technically a republic because the definition of a republic is a government where officals are elected (so democracy) but we can argue about definitions but McConnel is destroying Americaโ€™s institutions

Well imperialism as in actual colonization and conquest is over, but a new era of neo-colonialism is in full swing with large Western companies exploiting the third world for profit

Ok so for the Democratic nomination itโ€™s now effectively a two war race between Bernie and Biden now. Warren and Buttigieg still have a slim chance but they are both consistently much lower in the polling. So with that said, would you guys rather support Bernie or Biden since those two seem the most likely to win.

So can anyone of you climate-skeptics give me a fact based argument about how climate change as we know it is false

How is Bernieโ€™s staff corrupt? Also Bernies staff doesnโ€™t really represent him as a candidate/what policies he wants. None of his campaign staff will actually follow him into the White House unless he specifically appoints them. So if you think his staff is corrupt, ok, I would like to see evidence of that but anyway know that in no way represents the president he would be if elected.

Bernie has millions of supporters, probably tens of thousands of volunteers and at least hundreds of staff and in response to his canidency you say that just because one staffer said one thing he is not a valid canidate. I bet you that I could find something problematic said by every canidates staff. If you dislike Bernie as a canidate thatโ€™s fine but donโ€™t do it on the basis of what one radical staffer said, dislike him because you disagree with his policy positions

Good, dislike him for his policy positions not from the comments of a radical staffer

I think that a 15 is too high but it should be raised to 10 then raised every year with inflation

And I havenโ€™t heard about it at all before this but just by searching it up it seems he formally apologized and got rid of the staffer

@Chicken Emperor Money has no inherent value, it only has value because as a aociety we collectively believe it has value, the thing is that as a natural result of inflation over time things become more expensive, and one way or another the minimim wage will be raised, there has never been a period longer then 2 decades in American history with the same minimum wage because as prices rise it becomes necessary to raise the minimum wage. So no matter what, with time yes the US will have a $100 minimum wage but not anytime soon. It just makes it easier for all parties involved to just pin it to inflation instead of making minimum wage workers at the mercy of politicans

No itโ€™s not speeding things up, it doesnโ€™t affect inflation

Also this whole thing that you mentioned about the Bernie staffer Kyle Jurel seems to originally from Project Veritas and as said by The Guardian an objectivly moderate news source Project Verits is a, โ€œfake news rightwing groupโ€ so Iโ€™m not sure if I trust this source so do have a more credible source

Sorry it just flagged me when I tried to send something

Ok that video explains what Iโ€™m trying to say, how the minimum wage is raised in America makes no sense

America should implement a single payer system

*For healthcare

It would expand coverage to every American while reducing net healthcare costs by $2 Trillion over a decade

That would mean the average middle class family would see their after tax income go up by over $3,000

Probably but itโ€™s stilk worth striving for

And America effectively has a flat tax

The group that pays the lowest taxes as a percent of income is the Top 400 earners. They pay even less than those in poverty

Yeah itโ€™s just that I know so many conservatives who say โ€œWell itโ€™s really the poor who arenโ€™t paying their fair shareโ€

But why is it that America uniquely is so fat?

I think itโ€™s probably a combination of horrible nutritional education, a cheap and easy to access aboundance of junk food, and a general exercise.

So what do you guys think of a single-payer healthcare system being implemented in the US

How does demographics have literally anything to do with healthcare

Well theyโ€™re are white people that donโ€™t contribute to the economy

Itโ€™s not unique to the race

And why do you think black people are poorer

Could it be the legacy of being enslaved for hundreds of years

And then racism

What do you mean their own nation

Are you saying they arenโ€™t American

So youโ€™re in favor of ethnostates

People are people no matter their race

Their is truely no difference between a white person, asian person, native american person, middle eastern person etc because people are all the same

Race is irrelevant

Race is only a measure of the amount of melanin in your body

And nothing else

Different races can have similar traits but your race doesnโ€™t cause that

@pompompiggy do you believ in racial supremacy

Then how can you justify you saying some races are fundamentally different

But how can you justify ethnostates with i.q. differences that you canโ€™t provide any data for

And donโ€™t you realize how this thinking can so easily lead to racism by thinking some are different

Maybe itโ€™s that itโ€™s not their genetics but being raised in a more affulent environment could led to higher iqs

Because yet again, the legacy of racism is very pervasive

How would that be any different

@pompompiggy Why are you saying that social programs in homogeneous countries canโ€™t work in Amerixa

Because I heard your dumbass argument about black people not contributing but thatโ€™s only due to the legacy of raicsm and slavery and thatโ€™s irrelevant considering how there are mang white people who donโ€™t contribute

In summary, ethnostates are dumbass excuses for racism

@SinOfDrip My race is irrelevant to this convo

You canโ€™t deny the legacy of redlining for example which meant black people couldnโ€™t buy homes or start businesses

No itโ€™s really relevant itโ€™s the fucking authors who collected the data interpreting it

If you want to analyze the report in any way, you should look at the conclusion

Thatโ€™s just a common scientific standard
