Most of the front hull is kruppstahlium too

The chally 2 isn't as good

If the turret was 800mm kinetic on the Chally they wouldn't be planning to change it

You do realize that it has no armor on the lower plate?

Or above the driver's hatch?

You could do it with a tandem RPG-7

and that is with ERA

The composite on turret front/side and upper hull can withstand any RPG, including the 29

but lower hull only had 70-80mm steel originally

so they put ERA on it

once that got busted through with a tandem RPG-29 they put a composite block on it

that should stop RPGs

but it's likely not enough against modern russian KE penetrators like Svinets-1 and 2

and the are above the driver's hatch is still only steel

they have since the T-62

125mm tank gun HEAT-FS hasn't changed significantly since the T-64

gun-launched ATGMs are also mediocore because you can't increase their caliber

that still does jack shit against western composites

their best ATGMs are helo and vehicle-based

since a gun tube or a soldier's carrying capacity doesn't limit their weight or size

double and triple warheads are only effective against ERA panels

western MBTs don't rely on ERA

a single-stage warhead is just as effective against NERA and passive composites as a single-staged warhead

where did you get *that* number

the best HEAT warheads are rated at *maybe* 1500mm

and a 125mm diameter tank-launched one won't even break 1000mm

Chobham-type composites are 3,5 times as effective against HEAT warheads as against kinetic penetrators

since Russian KE penetrators go up to ~900mm of pen, their ATGMs would need to break 3k mm to be *as effective*

and with current tech, to achieve penetration like that you'd need a warhead so massive, you might as well use a 250kg bomb

That's what they want you to thin

Even wiki calls bullshit on that one

800mm ain't shit against composite tank armor

NATO tanks had that much heat resistance since the late 80s

Triple-warhead is good against modern ERA that are designed to counter tandem warheads

but those are not mounted on tanks

unlike ERA, NERA doesn't lose effectiveness against HEAT that easily

Once ERA blows it's done, so all you have to do is get a precursor charge to detonate it before your main warhead pens the armor proper

but NERA arrays continue expanding for the few milliseconds it takes for the main charge to detonate

you can't delay the detonation or your warhead will squish against the steel

which is why tandem never had significant effect against anything but ERA

yes, and it may be enough against fast-acting ERA

not against slower-acting NERA

even the best ceramics can't do the job alone

there is no evidence of NERA being phased out, merely supplemented

We don't know shit about the 4th genners armor

shit's more classified than aliens

There is still no evidence of them being used

We have no credible info on the armor of any Abrams since the M1A1HA

we have no clue what the Germans will use for their 4th gen

The Germans don't know either, since they have 2 companies competing for the contract

The type-10s armor was a weight-saving measure only, as main island nip bridges fold like buildings in Hiroshima

NERA has been 3,5 times as effective as RHA by weight since the 80s

everything's modular if you try hard enough

all they did was make the base armor bolted on instead of welded

so you don't have to cut to change it

again- the only thing modular about it is the ease of mounting

and even the heaviest package is only like 8 tonnes

the Abrams armor weighs close to 20

evidence suggest the Type-10 is barely (if at all) more armored than the Type-90

it just had to go under ~50 tonnes because bridges can't handle more

it wasn't even meant to replace the 90

which are 60s tech

AMAP is ceramic-based, yes

but there's no evidence AMAP alone can handle 800mm+ KE warheads

AMAPs only use on tanks are on the Leopard 2 Evolution

which conveniently places it on top of NERA-based Leopard 2 armor

same on the PUMA IFV

Puma is kraut space magic

Its gun sounds like a blaster

*Still no ATGMs because budget cuts*

I have no fucking clue what that means

the only thing that comes to mind is a laser rangefinder, but that's pretty common

could be, but is the energy consumption low enough for an IFV?

last I checked laser weapons were too power hungry for non-static applications outside of ships and large planes

still, why mount it on an IFV of all things

shrapnel and EFP-based interceptors are more reliable and multi-use

a laser would choke the thing's engine just to charge

at least a current-tech one

in the future maybe

It's certainly no more than a prototype

even if it was better than current shrapnel APS, the Germans would still jew out of buying it

if it wasn't for the export market the German arms industry would be dead since 1990

Rheinmetall lives off of making upgrades for exported Leo 2s

until the 2A7 the bloody Greeks had better tanks than Germans

because the Bundeswehr didn't upgrade their leos hull armor since 1987
