2017-12-08 15:14:15 UTC

Eat healthy?

2017-12-08 15:14:18 UTC

Sleep well?

2017-12-08 15:14:22 UTC

Don't smoke?

2017-12-08 15:14:24 UTC

Don't drink?

2017-12-08 15:14:29 UTC

fuck you, pay the same as the guy who does

2017-12-08 15:14:34 UTC

What the actual fuck?

2017-12-08 15:14:41 UTC

Thatโ€™s retarded

2017-12-08 15:14:50 UTC

Even if the company would be willing to offer you a better, more appealing deal

2017-12-08 15:14:51 UTC

they cannot

2017-12-08 15:15:02 UTC

*E Q U A L I T Y*

2017-12-08 15:15:33 UTC

Why should you charge the guy who **ABUSES** his body the same as a guy who takes care of himself?

2017-12-08 15:15:49 UTC

Thanks @Reaps

2017-12-08 15:16:13 UTC

That just proves liberal college students donโ€™t know jack shit when they open their mouths here

2017-12-08 15:16:27 UTC

MUH AUSTRALIAN HEALTHCARE

2017-12-08 15:16:37 UTC

I suppose the argument is "what if there's only one health company that will cover you? Then they'd have a monopoly and charge whatever they want!"

2017-12-08 15:17:00 UTC

If the government is swooping in and forcing all companies to fix their prices at a set rate, how is that any better than the monopoly?

2017-12-08 15:17:05 UTC

So because they canโ€™t charge the abuser more because of his risk, they just charge everybody more right ?

2017-12-08 15:17:18 UTC

Well, that would make business sense

2017-12-08 15:17:24 UTC

To cover the cost n shieet

2017-12-08 15:17:37 UTC

Help pay for Peter's broken body with healthy Paul's money

2017-12-08 15:17:56 UTC

Christ this shit sounds very Soviet

2017-12-08 15:18:02 UTC

Price fixing

2017-12-08 15:18:09 UTC

Noone even bats an eyelid

2017-12-08 15:18:29 UTC

Are most aussies fucking statist sheep?

2017-12-08 15:18:33 UTC

Neither did I, except I knew I had to take out insurance before I was 32

2017-12-08 15:18:40 UTC

And that was only because of the threat of loading

2017-12-08 15:18:49 UTC

I didn't actually look into it any further than that

2017-12-08 15:18:52 UTC

Jesus Christ this is unfucking believable

2017-12-08 15:19:03 UTC

theoretically I could just not take out private health insurance

2017-12-08 15:19:09 UTC

*e v e r*

2017-12-08 15:19:16 UTC

and never have to worry about the loading fee

2017-12-08 15:19:18 UTC

Kek

2017-12-08 15:19:20 UTC

and just rely on medicare

2017-12-08 15:19:21 UTC

But

2017-12-08 15:19:39 UTC

Why is it theoretical?

2017-12-08 15:19:45 UTC

I can only assume I'm missing something there, because that seems like a painfully obvious choice

2017-12-08 15:19:57 UTC

I'll need to dig into it some more

2017-12-08 15:20:00 UTC

Exactly

2017-12-08 15:20:15 UTC

It was my insurance company telling me over the phone about this, then they sent me the gov info on it

2017-12-08 15:20:21 UTC

Why work when you can get money for free

2017-12-08 15:20:24 UTC

Wow

2017-12-08 15:20:29 UTC

written by the gov, so not 'spun' by the insurance company

2017-12-08 15:20:32 UTC

What a nice fucking insurance company

2017-12-08 15:20:50 UTC

Iโ€™m compelled to like the company in this case

2017-12-08 15:21:27 UTC

wow

2017-12-08 15:21:30 UTC

But thanks for giving me fire to hit back with @Reaps

2017-12-08 15:21:32 UTC

I just went to the page

2017-12-08 15:21:41 UTC

It was 'updated' on the 7th of Dec

2017-12-08 15:21:50 UTC

Yesterday ?!

2017-12-08 15:21:50 UTC

wish I had archived it

2017-12-08 15:21:53 UTC

Fuck

2017-12-08 15:21:55 UTC

instead I just have a .txt document

2017-12-08 15:22:07 UTC

here's what I copypasted at the time

2017-12-08 15:22:19 UTC

When did you copy and paste?

2017-12-08 15:22:31 UTC

the 7th ;p

2017-12-08 15:22:36 UTC

they changed it a few hours after

2017-12-08 15:22:37 UTC

anyway

2017-12-08 15:22:39 UTC

Lifetime Health Cover is a Government initiative that started on 1 July 2000. It was designed to encourage people to take out hospital insurance earlier in life, and to maintain their cover.
In Australia, private health insurance is not โ€˜risk-ratedโ€™ like most forms of insurance. Private health insurers cannot refuse to insure any person, and must charge everyone the same premium for the same level of cover, despite their risk profile and likelihood of using health services.

LHC is a financial loading that can be payable in addition to the base rate premium for your private health insurance hospital cover. If you purchase hospital cover earlier in life, and keep it, you will pay lower premiums compared to someone who joins when they are older.

LHC loadings apply only to hospital cover. They do not apply to private health insurance general treatment cover (also known as ancillary or extras cover).

2017-12-08 15:22:40 UTC

Wait

2017-12-08 15:22:42 UTC

Dude

2017-12-08 15:22:45 UTC

To avoid paying a LHC loading, you need to purchase hospital cover by 1 July following your 31st birthday. If you purchase hospital cover after this date you may be required to pay a LHC loading โ€“ 2% for each year you are over 30. For instance, if you wait until you are 40, you could be paying an extra 20% on the cost of your hospital cover. If you wait until you are 50, you could pay 40% more. And so on, up to a maximum of 70% more.

If you are a new migrant to Australia, and are aged 31 or over, you will not have to pay a LHC loading if you purchase hospital cover within 12 months of being registered for full Medicare benefits.

If you delay purchasing hospital cover for more than 12 months after your registration, you will have to pay 2% more for each year you are aged over 30 when you purchase your hospital cover.
Any LHC loading that you pay will be removed from your hospital cover premium after you have held hospital cover for 10 continuous years. However, if you cancel your hospital cover after the LHC loading has been removed, you may become liable to pay a LHC loading again in the future.

If you were born on or before 1 July 1934, you are exempt from the LHC loading. You can purchase hospital cover at any time and pay the base rate premium.

2017-12-08 15:23:00 UTC

Copy it again, put it in a new txt file and use file compare

2017-12-08 15:23:07 UTC

See which parts have disappeared:

2017-12-08 15:23:18 UTC

I already know what's been 'updated', believe me

2017-12-08 15:23:31 UTC

maybe someone was like 'oh shit, *that* sounds bad'

2017-12-08 15:24:23 UTC

ooo

2017-12-08 15:24:28 UTC

someone archived it back in 2012

2017-12-08 15:24:31 UTC

Hold up Iโ€™m on mobile i canโ€™t do it right now

2017-12-08 15:24:32 UTC

let's see what it said then

2017-12-08 15:27:20 UTC

yeah

2017-12-08 15:27:44 UTC

I was implying they removed the bits about private companies being compelled to charge the same rate regardless of the individuals health risk

2017-12-08 15:27:50 UTC

however

2017-12-08 15:28:20 UTC

archive.is 2012 version appears to be nearly identical, save for a phone number and other minutae

2017-12-08 15:28:34 UTC
2017-12-08 15:31:03 UTC

Pretty annoyed at myself tho

2017-12-08 15:31:24 UTC

Using archive.is is just not a habit for me

forcing companies to give products to people that don't meet their criteria always goes well ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿฟ

2017-12-08 15:32:29 UTC

google cahce has saved me

2017-12-08 15:32:35 UTC

2017-12-08 15:35:44 UTC

Still puzzled why they'd randomly decide to remove that, though. I mean, it hadn't been updated since June, and those particular sections hadn't been touched since at *least* 2012

2017-12-08 15:36:23 UTC

And I'm not tinfoil-hat enough to believe some gov employee saw someone access that webpage and then copy the text from it, and suddenly had an urge to scrub those particular lines

2017-12-08 15:36:51 UTC

Yeah

2017-12-08 15:37:01 UTC

Really makes you think

2017-12-08 15:37:24 UTC

2017-12-08 15:37:30 UTC

that concludes my presentation for tonight

2017-12-08 15:38:01 UTC

Very interesting reaps

2017-12-08 15:38:07 UTC

Very fucking interesting

2017-12-08 15:38:31 UTC

anyhoo, next time you hear someone go 'yeah but what about Australia' let them know that private healthcare... isn't exactly entirely private
