@Deleted User His point is that freedom cannot be maintained if people don't also maintain cultural values
it's a balancing act of personal responsibility, that can't be solved via government, cause then it's authoritarian
i might have misunderstood it then
Well, it's woes, he might be making a point for authoritarian government, but i won't waste my time listening to it tbh
long story short: Liberalism needs A CREED, or else it devolves into socialism
it definitely needs a deeper value system
the word spiritual comes to mind, but that is a bit too vague
i think a lack of this spiritual value is the reason that "fandom" is such a huge part of our current culture
people need to be their own fans lol
it is a shitty substitute for a rich and deep inner life
anime doesn't cut it
Lol
"Hit the gym, not your wife" - New American Ethos

So I just had to write an analysis/pathos-blog-post of some TEDx talk on how technology is destroying our ability to communicate properly.
How's everybody doing?
I talked about internet bloodsports instead
Book technology affected our ability to memorize stuff.
@LUCY
i'm fine
Book tech is a modification of our memory. It's solid state external storage
The Jews had this argument, that relying on written stories would make people just forget them, stop thinking about their meaning. And most importantly, allowing transcription errors to go unnoticed. An oral tradition has the whole village checking if you're communicating the story correctly.
:italian hands:
Greeks said that too lol
it is valid
that's nott the real IMC right?
It is.
Did anybody attend the dayforfreedom protest today?
Shit, IMC in here?
We getting all celebs now!
@DanielKO
The problem with that is that details get lost and with the time being, the story changes
Dankula's speech was great.
lol speaking of internet conversationalists
gotta get you with a mod to get you verified
Yeah Jerk.
@DanielKO @Jek Porkins
he got in here a while ago.
who is IMC?
What a newfag!
Milo's gave me a laugh. Generally not into his stuff but it was chuckle worthy.
milo was kinda meh
gavin was unfunny as fuck
idk, i was expecting more
Hey <@&372509267690782736> would @stillgray be able to get a role?
I liked Gavin's. It had a point about his moving around as a kid
Not sure why he started chanting USA
^
me neither tbh
That'd be swell.
I did an interview with the Liberalists yesterday.
Not sure if you guys follow their channel on YT.
IMC was a journo that escaped darkness, now he hangs with top shitposters on Twitter.
TOP. Shitposters.
I was listening to that video live @stillgray
Sweet
Thanks for the welcome.

But anyway, sometimes a small transcription error can have big implications.
@DanielKO
i guess the biggest problems is how the story changes with the time
Like that thing with the 26 different Qurans, all with enough differences to have theological implications.
it's one of the reasons why i don't exactly trust the bible
Hmmm
I don't think the Bible's transcription errors are as egregious.
As the original's in Greek.
The Bible had been thoroughly analysed to find exactly where and when things changed.
The bible had more emphasis on translation efforts, with multiple parties working on it. Greek isn't that different today than back then
There's some translation issues with idioms and such but nothing big.
The thing is, how many times do you think it has been changed since the first time it was written?
Yeah.
The main message seems to be in there
It's like if you're Icelandic you can read the Eddas verbatim.
Which books are canon and which arenโt?
We found the Dead Sea Scrolls, and those are pretty close to modern day
So, book technology removed the human factor in reviewing the reproduction's correctness.
You know what the problem is with Islam?
Most Muslims can't read Arabic.
lol
The orthodox, Catholics and Protestants all have different canons
They're just told by their Imams what is contained in the book.
Lol
I would have said pedophilia
And what those Imams preach isn't necessarily in the book.
(not that the book is any good, mind you)
The whole Principle of Abrogation makes a lot of things wonky.
@stillgray so basically theyโre Catholics pre reformation ?
The book contradicts itself numerous times, but you're supposed to go with the latter contradiction.
Yeah
