We observe this in almost every developed country.

2020-04-29 10:05:49 UTC

Cringe debate

2020-04-29 10:05:49 UTC

GG @SinOfDrip, you just advanced to level 12!

2020-04-29 10:06:14 UTC

Poverty does have a tendency to cause crime

But culture also *causes poverty*

2020-04-29 10:06:57 UTC

But we know this to not be the case for Black Americans.
At least it isn't a leading factor.

2020-04-29 10:07:10 UTC

As there are more poor white people in America than there are poor blacks

2020-04-29 10:07:31 UTC

Lol if poverty was the reason for crime then whites would commit more crimes then

2020-04-29 10:07:38 UTC

Culture has a greater impact

Well in all fairness black people have a *higher poverty rate*

But I think it's cultural issues that drive that

2020-04-29 10:10:26 UTC

A higher poverty rate means nothing
The fact is there are more poor white people in America than there are poor blacks. It's the nominal values that count. So if poverty was a leading factor then whites would commit more crimes. The Hispanic guy was right. The only argument that could be made is that this 'criminal culture' within the black community stems from a high poverty rate.

2020-04-29 10:11:12 UTC

The greater the percentage of poor people within a community, the greater the likelihood of their culture having a foundation around this high poverty rate.

2020-04-29 10:11:17 UTC

I'll accept that

2020-04-29 10:11:26 UTC

But that has nothing to do with the present

2020-04-29 10:11:43 UTC

And has much to do with the historic circumstances of black Americans

Wait I don't understand your point, what are you saying?

2020-04-29 10:13:04 UTC

Poverty isn't the reason for blacks committing more crimes than whites

2020-04-29 10:13:27 UTC

And it's way more to do with culture

2020-04-29 13:12:12 UTC

2020-04-29 15:45:20 UTC

Hello Rhodesian

2020-04-29 15:45:35 UTC

Heres da story of rhodesia

2020-04-29 15:45:51 UTC

A land both fair and great

2020-04-29 16:06:50 UTC

Culture can't cause poverty, but when a culture faces constant set backs from a broken system then yeah- there will be issues. Causation Vs. Correlation

2020-04-29 16:08:12 UTC

@SinOfDrip very eloquently put

2020-04-29 16:57:37 UTC

@SinOfDrip I beg to differ

2020-04-29 16:57:55 UTC

8.1% of White people are in poverty

2020-04-29 16:58:07 UTC

20% of African Americans are in poverty

2020-04-29 17:01:51 UTC

Which means 15.7 millions whites are in poverty
And 11 million blacks are in poverty @AETA

2020-04-29 17:02:09 UTC

So there are more poor white people than there are poor black people

2020-04-29 17:04:07 UTC

Itโ€™s similar

2020-04-29 17:04:10 UTC

Itโ€™s not even that

2020-04-29 17:04:40 UTC

African Americans are 5.9x more likely to be incarcerated

2020-04-29 17:04:53 UTC

Than white people

2020-04-29 17:05:27 UTC

And 4x more likely to be searched

2020-04-29 17:05:32 UTC

I really doubt itโ€™s the culture

2020-04-29 17:05:58 UTC

culture can contribute

2020-04-29 17:06:18 UTC

If culture were to contribute

2020-04-29 17:06:29 UTC

It wouldnโ€™t contribute much

2020-04-29 17:06:43 UTC

like look at Africa, it is pretty much expected that you share your wealth with your friends and family

2020-04-29 17:06:49 UTC

so when you hit it big, you are brought back down

2020-04-29 17:06:59 UTC

that pattern tends to repeat itself across many cultures

2020-04-29 17:07:33 UTC

Huh

2020-04-29 17:07:43 UTC

What does that have to do with African Americans

2020-04-29 17:07:59 UTC

The Richest Man is from Mali

2020-04-29 17:08:02 UTC

I doubt thatโ€™s true

2020-04-29 17:08:11 UTC

no it's true

2020-04-29 17:08:19 UTC

Post Colonization ?

2020-04-29 17:08:36 UTC

always, but there wasn't much wealth to go around originally

2020-04-29 17:08:50 UTC

i mean it's somewhat similar in latin america

2020-04-29 17:08:55 UTC

Post Colonization?

2020-04-29 17:09:04 UTC

Was this the culture before colonization

2020-04-29 17:09:14 UTC

as far as we know yes

2020-04-29 17:09:24 UTC

Nah

2020-04-29 17:09:38 UTC

Timbuktu was prosperous

2020-04-29 17:09:51 UTC

not by international standards

2020-04-29 17:09:58 UTC

It was

2020-04-29 17:10:02 UTC

In the Islamic world

2020-04-29 17:10:43 UTC

Plus

2020-04-29 17:10:50 UTC

If giving away money was apart of our culture

2020-04-29 17:10:59 UTC

We wouldnโ€™t have so many greedy Black celebs

2020-04-29 17:11:01 UTC

it's more of a guilt thing

2020-04-29 17:11:12 UTC

they are guilted into helping people out

2020-04-29 17:11:17 UTC

We lost our culture in Africa

2020-04-29 17:11:22 UTC

And our identity

2020-04-29 17:11:32 UTC

How could we possibly form a new one

2020-04-29 17:11:48 UTC

Thatโ€™s exactly like Africa

2020-04-29 17:11:53 UTC

most likely a biological basis to it

2020-04-29 17:12:09 UTC

I guess poor whites are likely to live in the country and rural areas where they are much less likely to be stop and searched. That's a fair argument tbf.

2020-04-29 17:12:16 UTC

Ye

2020-04-29 17:12:37 UTC

African Americans have basically already formed an identity

2020-04-29 17:12:42 UTC

It's not a good one

2020-04-29 17:12:49 UTC

Whatโ€™s that identity

2020-04-29 17:12:54 UTC

The Johnsons

2020-04-29 17:12:58 UTC

The Williams

2020-04-29 17:13:03 UTC

African Americans are going to be different than Africans

2020-04-29 17:13:10 UTC

since they are kinda a new group

2020-04-29 17:13:12 UTC

white dna

2020-04-29 17:13:14 UTC

African Americans were better as a people when they were under Jim Crow ironically

2020-04-29 17:13:28 UTC

Black people were better back then

2020-04-29 17:13:31 UTC

The thing that reset us

2020-04-29 17:13:35 UTC

Was the depression

2020-04-29 17:13:41 UTC

It hit us worse than White people

2020-04-29 17:13:42 UTC

Yes Africans and Afrom Americans genetically differ to some extent

2020-04-29 17:13:50 UTC

Dude Mali was one of the wealthiest empires on the planet ever

2020-04-29 17:13:50 UTC

White people benefited from the new deal more than blacks

2020-04-29 17:13:54 UTC

welfare isn't good for african americans

2020-04-29 17:13:57 UTC

I agree

2020-04-29 17:14:00 UTC

it zaps their motivation

2020-04-29 17:14:14 UTC

There was an emperor that took his pilgrimage to mecca and devalued gold along the entire route by spending so much

2020-04-29 17:14:19 UTC

African Americans are just

2020-04-29 17:14:26 UTC

Athletic Africans with White DNA

2020-04-29 17:14:39 UTC

He literally crashed the gold market in Cairo by spending so much gold

2020-04-29 17:14:47 UTC

The Slave Trade and Slavery took out the weak

2020-04-29 17:14:50 UTC

And left the strong

2020-04-29 17:14:58 UTC

well that's a thing, the europeans would have wanted the best workers

2020-04-29 17:15:10 UTC

and those good workers would have been bred more often

2020-04-29 17:15:30 UTC

Ye

2020-04-29 17:15:31 UTC

Pre-colonial africa was essentially feudal Europe with black people

2020-04-29 17:15:40 UTC

Africa was doomed

2020-04-29 17:15:47 UTC

Europe needed to step in

2020-04-29 17:15:54 UTC

not feudal

2020-04-29 17:15:55 UTC

The only problem I have with colonization

2020-04-29 17:15:59 UTC

Is the way they did the borders

2020-04-29 17:16:53 UTC

Ok then why was the most successful state in Africa during the period of colonization the only one that resisted it?

2020-04-29 17:17:22 UTC

Mali during one specific time in history isn't representative of africa as whole

2020-04-29 17:17:22 UTC

I just think Colonization was gay. It didnโ€™t help anything in the end, it was good in its conception. But now we see what happened to The Middle East, Africa, and even South America to some degree

2020-04-29 17:17:26 UTC

It was before colonization

2020-04-29 17:17:32 UTC

Mali was a rarity

2020-04-29 17:17:45 UTC

The rest of Africa was people killing each other

2020-04-29 17:17:51 UTC

Mali Ethiopia and Egypt

2020-04-29 17:17:56 UTC

Are the only great countries

2020-04-29 17:18:12 UTC

A lot of the stuff in mali was facilitated by north african merchants as well

2020-04-29 17:18:28 UTC

Very true, they also sold the enemies into slavery, to the Europeans

2020-04-29 17:18:28 UTC

GG @TheTrickster, you just advanced to level 3!

2020-04-29 17:19:27 UTC

Not sure if Mali Or Ethiopia did it, but it was fairly common in African Kingdoms considering the constant warfare

2020-04-29 17:19:45 UTC

Yeah Mali had space

2020-04-29 17:19:47 UTC

Slaves

2020-04-29 17:19:55 UTC

People confuse African Slavery with European Slavery

2020-04-29 17:19:59 UTC

Two different things

2020-04-29 17:20:25 UTC

African Slaves could hold political power and their kids wouldnโ€™t be born a slave

2020-04-29 17:21:05 UTC

manpower in africa was probably considered a lot more valuable than in europe

2020-04-29 17:21:29 UTC

native americans would fight whole wars just to get more manpower

2020-04-29 17:21:37 UTC

after like calamities

2020-04-29 17:21:40 UTC

mourning wars

2020-04-29 17:22:50 UTC

Africans had low fertility

2020-04-29 17:23:03 UTC

And not enough food to sustain a large population

2020-04-29 17:23:09 UTC

So ur

2020-04-29 17:23:11 UTC

Ye

2020-04-29 17:23:32 UTC

@AETA Can you cite Africans being able to hold political power whilst they were slaves in Africa?

2020-04-29 17:24:14 UTC

i mean it would make sense that in times of necessity they could open up opportunities to slaves like that

2020-04-29 17:24:23 UTC

like if a bunch of tribe members died

2020-04-29 17:24:38 UTC

Yes it makes sense it's just I didn't know that and i want a citation

2020-04-29 17:24:51 UTC

I'm glad to see big to normal brain conversations in this server

2020-04-29 17:28:34 UTC

This came to an abrupt end

2020-04-29 17:28:38 UTC

:(

2020-04-29 17:43:53 UTC

Oh I was reading something about Mansa Musa

2020-04-29 17:44:02 UTC

And it said he had slaves in power

2020-04-29 17:44:06 UTC

Iโ€™ll try to find it

2020-04-29 17:50:12 UTC

slave hierarchies are pretty common

2020-04-29 17:50:20 UTC

even in America

2020-04-29 17:50:34 UTC

it's just the hierarchy in America was more limited

2020-04-29 17:54:45 UTC

It's fine if you don't find it.
I'm reading into those kinda things so I eventually will

2020-04-29 18:49:12 UTC

@AETA yeah but crime is ultimately a choice and the cycle isn't 1 to 1. My dad dealt drugs and was in medium security prison. My record is clean. It's the glorification of crime that fuels the cycle.

2020-04-29 19:30:53 UTC
2020-04-29 19:31:01 UTC

So why do Black people "Choose" to commit crime

2020-04-29 19:39:57 UTC

I dont know, no one tells them to

2020-04-29 19:42:16 UTC

ghetto culture tells them it's how to be a man

2020-04-29 19:42:55 UTC

since Democrats have abolished the black family, they have no actual fathers in the household

2020-04-29 19:43:40 UTC

Because they are in jail

2020-04-29 19:46:56 UTC

And how do you get in jail?

2020-04-29 19:47:00 UTC

Commiting a crime

2020-04-29 19:48:48 UTC

Yes

2020-04-29 19:48:55 UTC

Fatherless household

2020-04-29 19:48:58 UTC

No father

2020-04-29 19:49:03 UTC

+ poverty =

2020-04-29 19:49:07 UTC

Likely to commit crime

2020-04-29 19:49:09 UTC

Meaning

2020-04-29 19:49:16 UTC

Starting another cycle

2020-04-29 19:51:17 UTC

I'm pretty sure your race doesn't have anything to do with your parents being present

2020-04-29 19:51:46 UTC

Honestly more strict punishment is a way we should be pushing

2020-04-29 19:52:58 UTC

I know....

2020-04-29 19:53:05 UTC

Why would we do harsh punishment

2020-04-29 19:53:07 UTC

<a:PepePopcorn:591251102733959170>

2020-04-29 19:53:09 UTC

That just makes it worse

2020-04-29 19:59:13 UTC

No

2020-04-29 19:59:23 UTC

It makes it so the cons outweigh the pros

2020-04-29 20:02:20 UTC

U want harsher sentences on these fathers

2020-04-29 20:02:25 UTC

Causing more kids to be fatherless

2020-04-29 20:02:29 UTC

Increasing the crime rate

2020-04-29 20:05:01 UTC

If the scentancing was harsher they wouldn't want to commit crimes

2020-04-29 20:05:29 UTC

Death penalty for rape and sexual assault, and more life sentences

2020-04-29 20:06:03 UTC

More years for drug possession

2020-04-29 20:06:03 UTC

GG @Colonel Sanders, you just advanced to level 1!

2020-04-29 20:08:33 UTC

That is the worst idea ever
