@Jignx Newest Windows update made a computer of mine incapable of running for longer than five minutes without hard-faulting back off again <:thenk:329322130804047872>
that sounds awful
but why?
I have no idea, since the update didn't change any power settings to my knowledge <:thvnk:332928260004642827>
All I know is, if I sit there and wiggle the mouse, it doesn't die. <:thonk:288060975775612929>
Daily reminder that @Iren Masot could break a toaster.
He has never owned an electronic he hasn't broken.
Matt it's a Windows update, it came broken from the factory.
Works Fine On My System โข
i pulled a windows update on windows update
and by that i mean my windows update is broken
Shut it down without permission?
I'm probably just going to roll it back, and then wait for the next round of updates.
it tries to run, but i get a popup that says "windows update is already running" and it crashes
the program not the computer, i mean
Have you tried the troubleshooter?
It automates some of the previous steps you'd manually try at the command-line
Matt enjoy your iPad :^)
I own 0 Apple products

the big fuck off heatsink case is here
gonna go to letterbox to get it
these thermal pads are complete garbage
falling apart so easily
cannot find the thermal paste in my house
one of the heatsink part didn't match up with the LSI controller
i pulled a book off my bookshelf the other day
and a tube of thermal paste was sitting on top of it
<:shrugg:418233961203105812>
1080p youtube and it's holding at 40-42c
not bad
@PoliteSuka What's the heat sink for?
keeping it cool
cause Pi4 hot
Oh, Pi 4?
shame the heatsink pads are junk
I have one in the mail to replace the Pi 3 we're using as a PiHole; it's throttling our internet from the USB speed.
I got one of those fan shims or whatever they're called.
I do like how this case doesn't block the POE Hat
Apparently work better than a heat sink. Unless you got that sweet meme tower cooler.
Thought it was gonna
might just steal some from some junk gpus I have lying around
got a heap of spare old gpus ina box in my room
that might work out
What are you talking about?
salvaging some thermal pads from old gpus to pad the space of these shitty preincluded ones
I mean, almost any pasty stuff will do as long as its on thin. If nothing else, run the board bare for a while, it was built to handle it. Order some proper pads in the meantime.
Yeah, honestly, just run it bare for a bit.
Like the CPU has contact on the pad, but not the ram, and I cannot confirm the LSI controller
Gonna try rebooting with a basic overclock
1.75GHz and 600MHz GPU
use toothpaste as a temporary paste
that's actually not the worst idea
but I know I have a little tube of thermal paste somewhere
you probably brushed your teeth with it
shit u right
Lord almighty, what are you using it for that you need it all wrangled up right now?
Just wait a few days
toothpaste will last a few days
why not use it now
hair wax would work too but who the heck uses hair wax
also
The board works without a heat sink, we all know that.
maybe everyone uses hair wax, i dunno
i dont put things in my hair
I use semen, dries into a thick cum paste
Smells good, too, when it gets hot.
my elementary school had a giant tree that smelled like cum
1080p youtube @ 1.75GHz
Cum tree <:pepewot:589100642820161551>
50 c
sounds bearable for a few days til you get some paste
unless you are gonna run it for a month waiting for chink paste
I know I have a tube of paste
I just don't know where it is
and I certainly have some chink paste somewhere
i know where it is
its in your nearest amazon warehouse
New Zealand doesn't have an Amazon warehouse
<:moon2POGGYWOGGY:542903195752595458>
Amazon?!
New Zealand really doesn't have Amazon at all
the friend with prime is the savior of situations like this
New Zealand does, however, have some brand-new firearm restrictions. :^)
Good
I don't want them around
thats awful, you should be able to fire your arms at your own discretion
I fire my arms off into ur mum every night
god bless america
i do this every day
>freedom land
>not the most free country in the world
<:madman:589105474226618384>
nobody is truly free
but some are free-er than others
personally, i enjoy the free samples down at the local costco
last time they had some really tasty garlic naan
had some garlic naan yesterday with my beef vindaloo
good shit
yay
i made it do the temp in a script
so the temps top at at 53c for a 1080p youtube video
4k MKV file isn't playing properly and the temps is 65c
I didn't find the cool master one but I found the chink one
Good enough
I've approximately put on way too fucking much
but enough to pad out the distance from shit pad to heatsink
๐ lole
It'll melt as it gets hot, and is electrically conductive
Best of luck ๐
well shoot
I'll just clean the fuck off
temps are down to 44c
if it becomes a problem I'll just wipe the excess tomorrow
Use it til you find your good stuff
Yeah I'll do a proper order of thermal pads, and maybe some modern thermal paste
In the meanwhile I'll channel my inner middle age person and leave a negative review on the page
Thought's on buying a cheap SSD like a BX500?
I have a computer that has Windows 8 installed on a 128GB SSD, and 2X 2TB harddrives. I want to upgrade the OS drive, but am also thinking about upgrading to Windows 10 at the same time.
But I do not want to reinstall all my programs and games, and I do not want to use the "upgrade" feature of the Windows installer.
Since I installed all my programs on my hard drives, they should no be impacted by me updating to Windows 10 right?
Can steam recognise that I installed my games on another drive and load them?
Steam certainly does
Depends on the program, most normal stuff should be fine. Be sure to grab your Documents and %appdata% for the games too.
Steam won't autodetect the library, you'll have to add it.
@Aqualiteking crucial include a pretty fool proof cloning software so you'll be right
I brought a Crucial P1 NVME, and they include Acronis which sorts that shit out real easy
Yeah I was leaning towards Crucial becuase they are owned by micron and use their nand flash, which is of good quality.
samsung are owned by samsung and use their nand flash, which is of good quality too <:alismirk:230784726615588865>
yeah but it costs more.
I just got a 860 evo
no worries of getting fucked by low quality flash
Watching a repair video to replace a redmi note 4 charging port and the guy has a disgustingly long finger nail which he uses as a prying tool
๐คข
I guess you could call it a
handy
tool to have
"handy, a tool to have in-hand "
"it really nails the job"
"Onycholysis is only a word"
That shotgun is all fucked up lmao
He's holding it like a rifle, but it has a pistol grip... In front of the trigger
Unless that's a pistol he's carrying on his chest behind the shotgun?
That's clearly a pistol on his vest
Get your eyes checked
Japs fuck up drawing guns all the time, so I wasn't sure lol
two is one
one is none?
The premise of the Manga is that they're immortal, so they carry stupid amounts of weapons and ammo
I thought he was just one of those "switching to a pistol is faster than reloading" guys
so he had an extra pistol for when he finishes the mag in the first one
I kinda regret getting a 10 inch tablet it's way too big and heavy to use normally
A lot of apps on android aren't designed for tablets anymore
The only good thing is reading manga and watching movies on a 10 inch tablet
sadly there is no smartly priced 10 inch tablets|| with linux support ||
Is there a tablet version of a hackintosh?
have you tried ||installing arch|| on a tablet
Like you get a android tablet and put ios on it
why would you do that
I don't want to do it
I was just wondering if you *could*
I thought about installing Mac os on my ThinkPad
<:pepepuke:512351036317630470>
Like, just for fun
But I remembered using my mom's MacBook and just being like, *what the fuck is even going on here*
I'm sure it's fine if you have used it your whole life, but trying Mac os for the first time
I didn't know how to do fucking *anything*
I was just trying to look at some vacation photos off an SD card and it was the most tedious thing ever
I couldnt just double click the photo to open it and then hit right arrow to see the next one
I had to open the photo, then close it
Then open the folder again, and open the next photo
I'm sure there is some way to do it normally and I'm just a retard or something
But I'll be damned if I could figure out how
I didn't know soys could have such big hands
@Semi Truck mc Clusterfuck do you have a license for that thumb mate
Hey @PoliteSuka, when you get a minute, could you share what heat sink you're using?
neat they already made armor case for 4
Oh, wow! That actually looks pretty nice. Once you've got it all set up in a few days, could you benchmark it and drop an @ me so I don't miss it? I'm really curious about how well these different cooling solutions work.
there is also passive model too from that same thing @Iren Masot
just make sure to place any cameras etc tru that thing first as the thermal pads lock it down decently with the screws
Can the newest raspi already handle 4k playback?
yes/no
@Tervy I don't think they did , the usb controller doesn't line up
kk, thanks. I'm not well versed with Ali; it keeps defaulting to the Japan site instead of giving me English.

Would love to have some setup that would automatically aggregates newest film and TV releases but I'm too lazy to figure out how
probably some combination of Sonarr and Radarr on htpc
@Kimichiboi it does support 4Kp60 hardware decode of HEVC video ... buut anything software decoded is different thing
cant seem to find the benchmark now that i try to
but i think officialy it has "dual monitor support @ 4k"
>>> Fifa_WorldCup2014_Uruguay-Colombia_4K-x265.mp4 (4K, H.265, 60 fps) โ First frame only for several seconds then video updates every 5-10 seconds with heavily gray frames, and frequent audio cuts. Eventually, lost mouse pointer and control of the system -> hard power cycle required
>>> MHD_2013_2160p_ShowReel_R_9000f_24fps_RMN_QP23_10b.mkv (10-bit HEVC, 24 fps) โ First frame only for several seconds then video becomes gray, and system hangs
>>> Beauty_3840x2160_120fps_420_8bit_HEVC_MP4.mp4 (H.265) โ First frame only
tho cnx-soft states that he had first distro spins for 4
so results probly vary in future patches
(he didnt get 4k desktop even to work with 4k TV :D
I'm assuming the system is still in its infancy, and will need future work to fully implement the hardware as shipped.
That, and the 4k support will be better put to desktop work rather than trying to stream two different 4k Crunchyroll feeds.
your other option is Rock64 if single desktop is fine for you (well single proper size hdmi port at least*
i think tinker board and odroids newest support it too
could make for a fun little project, rn I just use Plex on my main pc
buut ~cant say for sure
add Jackett to your list too for proper support
and ofc Sickrage if you want proper video library manager
aaaand what else there is to make it all in one htpc ?
(at some point you get frustrated to the list and either use DietPi-config tools for it or AtoMiC toolkit :D
and force love of god "Force Encryption" on every fucking thing
and with sickrage you get showsrage android menu for managing stuff more easily :P
but as always only watch open and free licensed movies <:thonkang:327933449597878312> as piraty is big no no
See, I was pondering on the Rock64, but I wanted an SBC for game emulation inside the case of a portable TV I scrounged from an old camper van.
Uhh, in other words I was wondering if the Rock64 would be better than the RasPi4 for game emulation. I think the Pi would be better overall for processing ability, as well as aftermarket support.
Like, the Rock64 doesn't have much of a community and the emulation scene will not be as robust.
as long as Lakka supports it is there that much problem
it is X64 system after all
i mean if stuff what are pretty much equal to it like XU4 odroid can handle most of what Lakka has to throw at it ?
unless you really desperate need that niche support for your Atari 7800 ....
Name some good FREE movies @Tervy besides the blender ones
I was thinking about power draw too, but it's tough to find good benchmarks for the Rock64. Bear in mind the SBC I need would have composite video out for the portable TV to read from.
@Kimichiboi i think there is list somewhere in wi9kipedia fort your needs :P tho not all of it are "good" by everyones terms
from absurd stuff like Valkamaa and Route 66 to Blender stuff
also ofc whole rebuild Potemkin silent movie :P
(thaats about all i can remember)
@Iren Masot there does exist 5V1A hdmi > composite for cheap from china too .. but yeah forget the powerdraw if you plan emulate stuff anyway :P
it will be running on fulldraw whole time it emulates anything
no matter what you get there
--nvm
https://youtu.be/imkSdlbXB_U these videos really motivate me to git gud
I wouldn't want to use a converter, as I'm hoping to run the TV from the original battery source. It uses 6 "D" cell batteries at 9 volts, and the TV is stated to consume 10W during regular operation. I want to keep power draw as low as possible for this application.
wait ... you want to strap that thing to same batteries..
standard D-cell has 4 ish Amphours (from top of my head iirc) at 1.5v (or 12Wh if you will ?
I could check again, but I think it's closer to 15 for alkaline, and 4 for rechargeables.
yeah might be that im remembering zinc-carb ones as herpderp
but even alkalines are at 20ish Wh
figuring out how much playroom you have here after the panel draws what ever it wants (full bright colorblend continous animation case ?)
It's been a few months since I looked last, but I remember mathing out that the TV would run for maybe 6 hours with no other power draw, and I was thinking about half that time if I really maxed out an SBC.
so getting that what 15ish Ahs out of it
It was going to be black-and-white TV at whatever shit resolution ๐
Look, in any case, I know for a fact that a Raspberry Pi 4 can pull just over 7 Watts at full chooch, and I have no idea whatsoever what the Rock64 draws since no one wants to fucking talk about it, if they already own one.
look at spec sheets?
5v 3A suggested supply
