I used to have a couple back in the eighties and that's what they called them. They're also known as a banded Mandarin and some manufacturers call them a grandad collar. Patrice collar does have the small fold over, I think they were called that just because of the similar appearance

I made mine in 3/4" thick plywood so the thick padding helps me torque the shield against my forearm

iirc the best foam to use would be a high density closed cell foam (like what camping mats are made from)

These are the best shields you can use for a defensive formation, which is what we are aimaing to achieve.

If youre bringing one, might as well familiarize yourself with the shield wall tactics in case you need to jump in there
