2019-08-25 22:38:06 UTC

you can tear apart non-rivetted just with ur hands lol

2019-08-25 22:38:12 UTC

Better not to be hit, rather than to be hit trying to defend against the blow

2019-08-25 22:38:14 UTC

In that case riveted is specifically the stuff you want if you want better protection

2019-08-25 22:38:29 UTC

But...

2019-08-25 22:38:40 UTC

2 jackets is probably better than non-revitted tbh

2019-08-25 22:38:47 UTC

I mean yeah

2019-08-25 22:39:05 UTC

If I knew I had to fight some Antifa pencilnecks I'd just put on full biker gear and that's it

2019-08-25 22:39:11 UTC

Probably wouldn't need more than that

2019-08-25 22:39:20 UTC

We're talking about Antifa after all <:pepelaugh:544857300179877898>

2019-08-25 22:39:23 UTC

They won't always be pencilnecks

2019-08-25 22:39:39 UTC

what makes rivetted chainmail so special

2019-08-25 22:39:55 UTC

physics

2019-08-25 22:39:56 UTC

Especially in Portland, a lot of the antifa without masks are large blacks directly out of Africa

2019-08-25 22:40:18 UTC

non rivetted are just pieces of metal bent into a circle

2019-08-25 22:40:19 UTC

That is riveted chainmail

2019-08-25 22:40:20 UTC

i have no idea how good it is

2019-08-25 22:40:31 UTC

it has a small stud in it

2019-08-25 22:40:33 UTC

that is normal chainmai

2019-08-25 22:40:43 UTC

whats the difference

2019-08-25 22:40:46 UTC

slightly heavier metal?

2019-08-25 22:40:51 UTC

Riveted chainmail has the links riveted into each other which makes it a LOT more durable

2019-08-25 22:40:54 UTC

a lot of structural strength

2019-08-25 22:41:00 UTC

Historically "normal" chainmail wasn't even used

2019-08-25 22:41:04 UTC

It was always riveted chainmail

2019-08-25 22:41:06 UTC

well if you had to pick a weapon for self defense and carry it around and all what would it be?

2019-08-25 22:41:23 UTC

with non-rivetted the rings pry appart under fairly small amounts of pressure

2019-08-25 22:41:30 UTC

Claymore.

2019-08-25 22:41:32 UTC

so a swing from an axe can more or less cut thru it

2019-08-25 22:41:34 UTC

A nuclear warhead on a dead-man's switch

2019-08-25 22:41:35 UTC

Because the kind of "linked chain" that is considered normal is useless in defending against damage

2019-08-25 22:42:01 UTC

A twelve inch handled claymore

2019-08-25 22:42:10 UTC

claymores are more or less a meme too tbh

2019-08-25 22:42:13 UTC

If you want actually protective chainmail, you need riveted chainmail. That's about it @Lucienne d'Anwyl

2019-08-25 22:42:26 UTC

like they were used a decent amount historically, but really you want a halberd or a sword tbh

2019-08-25 22:42:33 UTC

well I didn't specify the type <:hypersmugon:544638648721604608>

2019-08-25 22:42:46 UTC

halberds are like

2019-08-25 22:42:49 UTC

gunpowder ge arent they

2019-08-25 22:43:01 UTC

tercios and shit

2019-08-25 22:43:30 UTC

yeah they are known for them

2019-08-25 22:43:33 UTC

@Lucienne d'Anwyl Halberds became popular with full plate armor, in the late 1300's and 1400's if I remember correctly. Way before firearms.

2019-08-25 22:43:33 UTC

their job was to guard the musketeers tbh

2019-08-25 22:43:49 UTC

yeah that time Spain was strong

2019-08-25 22:43:49 UTC

musketeers do the real damage

2019-08-25 22:43:52 UTC

No, I want a greatsword. Zweihanders are far too long, and Asian weapons are far too delicate. I want to take the arm swinging at me, and the weapon holding it, off entirely

2019-08-25 22:43:58 UTC

but once the medieval-warfare-meta started to flesh out halberds really rose to the top

2019-08-25 22:43:58 UTC

halberd break enemy morale and stop cavalry

2019-08-25 22:44:23 UTC

And are the best weapons against armor, which became very popular because not dying is pretty fun.

2019-08-25 22:44:25 UTC

how is a claymore the right size

2019-08-25 22:44:32 UTC

if zweihanders are too long for you

2019-08-25 22:44:47 UTC

the best weapon against armou is the lance

2019-08-25 22:44:48 UTC

lol

2019-08-25 22:44:50 UTC

none other

2019-08-25 22:44:53 UTC

could ever match

2019-08-25 22:44:54 UTC

the lance

2019-08-25 22:44:55 UTC

zweihanders are bigger than claymores

2019-08-25 22:44:55 UTC

kinda requires a horse tho lol

2019-08-25 22:44:59 UTC

It's just a reference to the handle, tbh. The guard is much too wide on most medieval weaponry

2019-08-25 22:45:00 UTC

Well yeah but then you need a horse too lol

2019-08-25 22:45:01 UTC

thats the point

2019-08-25 22:45:07 UTC

the only thing that can pierce armour

2019-08-25 22:45:07 UTC

tercios where a military unit basically a regiment made up of companies with different weapons

2019-08-25 22:45:09 UTC

is a horse

2019-08-25 22:45:12 UTC

for the most part

2019-08-25 22:45:21 UTC

halberd/warhammer can

2019-08-25 22:45:28 UTC

assuming were sticking to melee

2019-08-25 22:45:43 UTC

i mean really arrows+wall+siege+madstrats > everything

2019-08-25 22:45:48 UTC

a small point can break

2019-08-25 22:45:48 UTC

but if you want to pierce their heart

2019-08-25 22:45:50 UTC

lances all the way

2019-08-25 22:45:52 UTC

or couched pike

2019-08-25 22:45:54 UTC

either way

2019-08-25 22:45:56 UTC

There's no reason I can't stud my guard. I've already got a design for what I'll use

2019-08-25 22:45:57 UTC

the horse does the work

2019-08-25 22:46:18 UTC

and

2019-08-25 22:46:27 UTC

@Kealor what is chainmail if it isnt riveted

2019-08-25 22:46:31 UTC

but is welded shut

2019-08-25 22:46:33 UTC

Halberds were the most popular weapons in the late medieval ages, after plate armor became popular. For two reasons - first off they were two-handed weapons, and as you already wore plate you wouldn't need a shield and therefor could use a halberd without much penalty. And second, they were super good against plate armor and on top of that were just really versatile and powerful weapons.

2019-08-25 22:46:34 UTC

?

2019-08-25 22:46:40 UTC

I have a shape I'll use, for the guard, which will be much smaller, but more pick-like than what any previous sword used

2019-08-25 22:46:44 UTC

surely it cant be anywhere as weak as unwelded rings

2019-08-25 22:46:48 UTC

ah thats like the midpoint, its somewhere in the middle

2019-08-25 22:47:14 UTC

its not authentic, but it is better than the pressed chainmail

2019-08-25 22:47:20 UTC

iirc it is still weaker than rivitted tho

2019-08-25 22:47:48 UTC

But I gotta go to fucking sleep it's 2 AM here and I need to wake up in 4 and a half hours. Who knew I'd find people talking about medieval weaponry and warfare in here <:tiptip:462282246695419934>

2019-08-25 22:48:02 UTC

man

2019-08-25 22:48:07 UTC

SIGMAR!

2019-08-25 22:48:07 UTC

these guys are selling this shit cheap af

2019-08-25 22:48:10 UTC

But part of this is that I'm very good at making edges, I don't think my blade will have any issue piercing with the tip

2019-08-25 22:48:16 UTC

Have a good night everyone

2019-08-25 22:48:21 UTC

catcha later

2019-08-25 22:48:24 UTC

Later euro

2019-08-25 22:48:39 UTC

prolly weak af

2019-08-25 22:48:42 UTC

#finexit

2019-08-25 22:48:43 UTC

ah i forgot the name btw, but that "normal" chainmail where the metal is just pressed is called "butted-chainmail"

2019-08-25 22:48:44 UTC

but A E S T H E T I C

2019-08-25 22:49:08 UTC

no padding underneath

2019-08-25 22:49:25 UTC

wouldn't stop shit from splitting your skull

2019-08-25 22:49:41 UTC

you can literally

2019-08-25 22:49:46 UTC

i dont think they are too worried about the mannequin tho

2019-08-25 22:49:46 UTC

wear padding underneath

2019-08-25 22:49:50 UTC

wont stop you lol

2019-08-25 22:49:56 UTC

Don't get hit. Even with armor, a hammer is all they need to fuck you

2019-08-25 22:50:01 UTC

theyre selling chainmail not coifs

2019-08-25 22:50:14 UTC

Don't get hit. In and out

2019-08-25 22:50:59 UTC

well there are reasons as to why there werent many agi-specced fighters in medieval warfare lol

2019-08-25 22:51:18 UTC

... hammer greatsword. Ima make a guard out of a hammer

2019-08-25 22:51:29 UTC

nigger what?

2019-08-25 22:51:35 UTC

i mean

2019-08-25 22:51:45 UTC

literally scouts

2019-08-25 22:51:45 UTC

2019-08-25 22:51:46 UTC

exist

2019-08-25 22:51:47 UTC

you know

2019-08-25 22:51:48 UTC

that was legit a real thing, but its kinda wonky

2019-08-25 22:51:48 UTC

the crossguard is already a "hammer"

2019-08-25 22:51:53 UTC

the best technique is still the shield and the sword personally

2019-08-25 22:52:01 UTC

armor is to avoid all blows that *glance*

2019-08-25 22:52:02 UTC

well scouts arent fighters lol

2019-08-25 22:52:04 UTC

axe/shield

2019-08-25 22:52:04 UTC

they are scouters

2019-08-25 22:52:07 UTC

they kill people

2019-08-25 22:52:10 UTC

namely other scouts

2019-08-25 22:52:16 UTC

Brb, I've gotta acquire shit for degenerate means

2019-08-25 22:52:21 UTC

or mace/shield

2019-08-25 22:52:22 UTC

they also ambush regular soldiers

2019-08-25 22:52:26 UTC

of course a hammer will fuck your day. but it'll have a chance of being deflected if wearing armor, theres no chance if you're not

2019-08-25 22:52:32 UTC

not everyone has the perfect swing

2019-08-25 22:52:56 UTC

hammers can go through deflection with the power of weight tho

2019-08-25 22:52:59 UTC

spear

2019-08-25 22:53:03 UTC

a sword gets raped by deflecting armour

2019-08-25 22:53:05 UTC

hmm decent point, but i dont think that came up an awful lot historically, like gear/training sets for dedicated scouts (not spies)

2019-08-25 22:53:05 UTC

@Lucienne d'Anwyl if its at a good angle you nigger

2019-08-25 22:53:12 UTC

ill google a bit

2019-08-25 22:53:13 UTC

sometimes

2019-08-25 22:53:14 UTC

you swing

2019-08-25 22:53:16 UTC

and it isnt that good

2019-08-25 22:53:19 UTC

i mean

2019-08-25 22:53:23 UTC

spies werent used that much

2019-08-25 22:53:27 UTC

compared to scouts

2019-08-25 22:53:30 UTC

reconaissance is like

2019-08-25 22:53:32 UTC

top tier my dude

2019-08-25 22:53:39 UTC

as for dedicated builds i dunno

2019-08-25 22:53:43 UTC

i mean

2019-08-25 22:53:43 UTC

i assume a bow

2019-08-25 22:53:48 UTC

probably dirks

2019-08-25 22:53:50 UTC

scouts probably just had a bow or a sword and clothes

2019-08-25 22:53:57 UTC

see the thing is

2019-08-25 22:54:00 UTC

maybe a gambeson

2019-08-25 22:54:03 UTC

if you collapse a tree

2019-08-25 22:54:07 UTC

on top of a knight

2019-08-25 22:54:12 UTC

you can kill him with your dirk

2019-08-25 22:54:14 UTC

ez

2019-08-25 22:54:19 UTC

gambeson and chain is what 80% of people had tbh

2019-08-25 22:54:22 UTC

and a helmet

2019-08-25 22:54:26 UTC

see the thing is

2019-08-25 22:54:30 UTC

the helmet still helps you

2019-08-25 22:54:35 UTC

because most niggers with hammers

2019-08-25 22:54:41 UTC

wont always have perfect accuracy

2019-08-25 22:54:42 UTC

yeah the internet seems to be of the mind that dedicated-scouts werent really a thing in medieval period

2019-08-25 22:54:49 UTC

longbowman stood their ground at Agincourt and killed knights up close

2019-08-25 22:54:52 UTC

and they may have a bad angle and swing somewhat on point

2019-08-25 22:54:57 UTC

the other thing

2019-08-25 22:55:08 UTC

just light infantry/cavalry given scout tasks using their same gear seems to me vastly more common

2019-08-25 22:55:10 UTC

if a hammer has an armour piercing spike

2019-08-25 22:55:14 UTC

it dont matter how good your armour is

2019-08-25 22:55:21 UTC

youre getting fucking GANKED

2019-08-25 22:55:25 UTC

so instead of a perpendicular crunch, its at a 170 degree angle and gets deflected

2019-08-25 22:55:26 UTC

it does if you parry

2019-08-25 22:55:29 UTC

yeah most hammers arent actually hammers lol

2019-08-25 22:55:32 UTC

scouts where mostly light cavalry and skirmishers sent ahead of the army to look around

2019-08-25 22:55:37 UTC

a parry can mean he glances your head

2019-08-25 22:55:41 UTC

no helmet means you're dead

2019-08-25 22:56:05 UTC

@Kealor scouts in european history

2019-08-25 22:56:06 UTC

and it rhymes too

2019-08-25 22:56:08 UTC

are mostly savages

2019-08-25 22:56:10 UTC

never heard of dedicated scout coprs before modern times

2019-08-25 22:56:17 UTC

like real scouts

2019-08-25 22:56:19 UTC

usually mercenaries

2019-08-25 22:56:21 UTC

and savages

2019-08-25 22:56:23 UTC

okay, you want real scouts?

2019-08-25 22:56:26 UTC

light cavalry

2019-08-25 22:56:27 UTC

done

2019-08-25 22:56:30 UTC

nah

2019-08-25 22:56:35 UTC

mounted infantry

2019-08-25 22:56:36 UTC

sent ahead because we don't care about them

2019-08-25 22:56:38 UTC

<:pepelaugh:544857300179877898>

2019-08-25 22:56:45 UTC

i mean i cant see anything

2019-08-25 22:56:47 UTC

wouldn't they just tell their light cavalry to do a run around

2019-08-25 22:56:51 UTC

^

2019-08-25 22:56:51 UTC

and then come back

2019-08-25 22:57:05 UTC

i mean when i played M2TW I always used mercenaries like that

2019-08-25 22:57:21 UTC

granted

2019-08-25 22:57:24 UTC

mercenaries are way more valuable

2019-08-25 22:57:29 UTC

than your regular medieval army

2019-08-25 22:57:31 UTC

in all honesty

2019-08-25 22:57:32 UTC

scouts are inferior to just having your normal infantry look ahead

2019-08-25 22:57:36 UTC

they arent expendable

2019-08-25 22:57:41 UTC

irl you dont treat mercenaries like meat shields

2019-08-25 22:57:42 UTC

your own army is expendable

2019-08-25 22:57:42 UTC

also sent them in to carry the siege equipement

2019-08-25 22:57:47 UTC

or you lose your mercenaries lul

2019-08-25 22:57:48 UTC

a lot of mercenaries were highly elite

2019-08-25 22:57:53 UTC

most mercenaries are

2019-08-25 22:57:55 UTC

they where in my army

2019-08-25 22:57:59 UTC

what do you think the third son of a lord does

2019-08-25 22:58:05 UTC

his family buys him armour and a horse

2019-08-25 22:58:08 UTC

and he becomes a mercenary

2019-08-25 22:58:11 UTC

can't pay them if they dead is what i though

2019-08-25 22:58:18 UTC

as opposed to your typical army of peasants

2019-08-25 22:58:18 UTC

just like D-Dogs

2019-08-25 22:58:21 UTC

they usually were in a company

2019-08-25 22:58:29 UTC

so you payed even if they died

2019-08-25 22:58:33 UTC

2019-08-25 22:59:42 UTC

unless its seriously multilayer

2019-08-25 22:59:45 UTC

depends on the bow/mail

2019-08-25 22:59:47 UTC

arrowheads are pretty long

2019-08-25 22:59:50 UTC

depends on the range it was fired at

2019-08-25 22:59:55 UTC

longbows probably

2019-08-25 22:59:55 UTC

more cusion for not dying

2019-08-25 22:59:57 UTC

yeah depends on a few factors
