2018-05-24 17:17:55 UTC

well.. even now

2018-05-24 17:18:45 UTC

so for example... on healthcare - the per capita average US citizen pays $8508 to the healthcare budget... in the UK (in USD) we pay $3500 per capita on average

2018-05-24 17:19:24 UTC

we became self sufficient, still had to pay taxes without a say and taxes went up because George was an idiot and went into debt

2018-05-24 17:19:40 UTC

and a UK citizen earning ยฃ20,000 will pay roughly ยฃ2k income tax (and that obviously already includes the health insurance)

2018-05-24 17:19:46 UTC

Enough of that

2018-05-24 17:19:52 UTC

yes but you get the benfit of US R&D on medication of procedures ๐Ÿ˜„

2018-05-24 17:19:54 UTC

I don't want to discuss healthcare

2018-05-24 17:20:11 UTC

We have corruption all up the chain here, too.

2018-05-24 17:20:34 UTC

oh, I totally agree on the independance... just on the tax thing, I dont agree youre necessarily better off... yet...

2018-05-24 17:20:44 UTC

oh we're better off

2018-05-24 17:20:49 UTC

taxes be damned ๐Ÿ˜„

2018-05-24 17:20:54 UTC

Owned

2018-05-24 17:21:20 UTC

def better off....

2018-05-24 17:21:43 UTC

but perhaps pay too much taxes... but thats youre choice really so its fine

2018-05-24 17:22:07 UTC

i would pay more, to be out of the EU

2018-05-24 17:22:25 UTC

It depends on what you call a tax

2018-05-24 17:22:32 UTC

Look, man. I was talking about taxation without representation. At least our taxes get represented. In some way, we actually keep our government responsible.

2018-05-24 17:22:44 UTC

Colonial America didn't have that option

2018-05-24 17:27:09 UTC

i wonder if without the war of independence britain would have created the taxation of colonies act 1778

2018-05-24 17:28:58 UTC

Doubtful

2018-05-24 17:31:22 UTC

you can have affordable, available, or quality. but not all 3.

2018-05-24 17:33:19 UTC

Our healthcare system is fucked up rn.

2018-05-24 17:33:48 UTC

It's way more complicated than universal or let alone free

2018-05-24 17:34:15 UTC

Corruption runs rampant, but damn is that corruption advantageous

2018-05-24 17:34:29 UTC

which is here

2018-05-24 17:35:03 UTC

what I find strange is that a lot of americans say healthcare is bad .. and look at canada as an example... which is rated one of the worst in the world ๐Ÿ˜›

2018-05-24 17:35:17 UTC

lmao

2018-05-24 17:35:43 UTC

American healthcare would be more affordable if we just stopped acting like insurance companies help us.

2018-05-24 17:36:10 UTC

Well. They do.

2018-05-24 17:36:23 UTC

And it's that kind of necessary evil

2018-05-24 17:37:44 UTC

they go to doctors and hospitals, and ask for a discount for giving them "business". The doctors go "but... this is how much this procedure costs.... like, there is no discount to have" and the hospital goes "we will charge this stupid price, give you a discount on THAT price, then charge the uninsured this new price. And now that we have made up these numbers no one can pay, they can get the state to pay us! then we will not pay the doctors enough, understand, and walk away with pockets full"

2018-05-24 17:37:49 UTC

I'm a firm believer, however, that necessary evil is still evil and thus should be eliminated. But I guess that makes me naive.

2018-05-24 17:38:26 UTC

there is a literal ledger in hospitals of how much to charge for a procedure, and its basically made up.

2018-05-24 17:38:26 UTC

I got a quote for private health insurance - ยฃ13 a month full cover

2018-05-24 17:38:35 UTC

its ridiculous.

2018-05-24 17:38:46 UTC

@Grenade123 I agree

2018-05-24 17:39:12 UTC

but I would only ever need it for things the NHS doesnt cover... like rare crap

2018-05-24 17:39:27 UTC

I negotiate procedure prices myself at hospitals. People don't know you can actually do that

2018-05-24 17:39:50 UTC

I had to learn

2018-05-24 17:39:58 UTC

before or after you had the procedure?

2018-05-24 17:40:18 UTC

Both sometimes

2018-05-24 17:40:25 UTC

lmao

2018-05-24 17:40:40 UTC

Look, 2014 was a rough year for me physically

2018-05-24 17:41:43 UTC

you are like lying on the table "what what what, how much is this gonna cost? 3000?! man, i'm walking out out of here if you can't come down to at least 1200."
"sir, you can't walk out of here."
"like hell i cant! you cant keep me!"
"no, i mean both your legs are broken."
"oh yeah? just watch me. 1200 or i'm walkin."

2018-05-24 17:41:55 UTC

No not that. Lmao

2018-05-24 17:42:17 UTC

i know, i'm jokin

2018-05-24 17:42:58 UTC

I call the doctor's office for a colonoscopy. They tell me the time. I tell them I don't know that I can afford it. They send me to billing and discuss how much I'm able to pay.

2018-05-24 17:43:18 UTC

I was without insurance for half a year

2018-05-24 17:44:38 UTC

depending on how often you really need a hospital, probably be better off haggling them down when you need to go, and putting what you would be paying to insurance into a bank account

2018-05-24 17:44:57 UTC

Basically

2018-05-24 17:45:25 UTC

Hospital visits are tricky to negotiate

2018-05-24 17:45:35 UTC

no more questions of if all the money you are giving them is pissed away when they say "yeah, needing to have a Gangrene leg removed is NOT a life save procedure"

2018-05-24 17:45:38 UTC

You can't negotiate until you're about to be discharged

2018-05-24 17:46:46 UTC

"What? your heart is failing and needs to be replaced? Yeah, thats considered an elective procedure"

2018-05-24 17:47:01 UTC

That's just corruption

2018-05-24 17:47:27 UTC

But anyway. I posted that hospital bill for a rattlesnake bite, and people are calling it a failure of healthcare

2018-05-24 17:48:06 UTC

This is a case I outright believe is exceptional

2018-05-24 17:48:54 UTC

thats for a rattlesnake bite? tf they take you to radiology for?

2018-05-24 17:49:23 UTC

"hmmm.... yep. its a bite already. we totally needed to x-ray this to see that."

2018-05-24 17:49:25 UTC

I'm not sure yet, but you're allowed to refuse aspects of service.

2018-05-24 17:49:46 UTC

MRI maybe?

2018-05-24 17:49:57 UTC

where did you get bite?

2018-05-24 17:50:08 UTC

It's not mine. lol

2018-05-24 17:50:14 UTC

where did they get bite

2018-05-24 17:50:31 UTC

in the head?

2018-05-24 17:50:48 UTC

Dunno

2018-05-24 17:51:12 UTC

The story isn't complete

2018-05-24 17:51:14 UTC

It needs to be

2018-05-24 17:51:33 UTC

assuming nothing had started to die off yet, shouldn't it be just some anti-venom, pain meds, and then wait?

2018-05-24 17:52:04 UTC

How fast do you think rattlesnake bites take to set in?

2018-05-24 17:52:36 UTC

They can be from minutes to hours.

2018-05-24 17:53:08 UTC

MINUTES.

2018-05-24 17:53:25 UTC

for a bill like that, they better have been in the middle of no where or have a pretty bad reaction

2018-05-24 17:54:08 UTC

I agree that this is an extreme case

2018-05-24 17:56:13 UTC

that's 80k in meds.

2018-05-24 17:56:45 UTC

and 20k in like blood work

2018-05-24 17:57:13 UTC

I'm certain you can negotiate it down a lot, but not to a satisfactory degree. You would have to set up a payment plan

2018-05-24 17:58:46 UTC

There's literally not much insurance companies do that you can't do.

2018-05-24 17:59:53 UTC

And I was talking to a British fellow about how he thought universal health care was good. And I suppose it's nice to be able to go to a doctor when you have a cold or flu.

2018-05-24 18:00:19 UTC

But I'm a fan of being able to take care of oneself.

2018-05-24 18:06:22 UTC

communists

2018-05-24 18:06:43 UTC

I think this name is better

2018-05-24 18:07:17 UTC

I want a separate islamist football network

2018-05-24 18:08:10 UTC

@Deadpool He's going to get fired.

2018-05-24 18:08:20 UTC

of course the jets owner will pay the fine. its the team that gets the fine not the player...

2018-05-24 18:08:24 UTC

Or lose his team. Whichever

2018-05-24 18:15:12 UTC

free game here atm

2018-05-24 18:23:46 UTC

@Timcast if musk does this thing, I hope the system ranks things a bit like knife media, they give a good breakdown

2018-05-24 18:25:32 UTC

Hacknet โค

2018-05-24 18:30:16 UTC

2018-05-24 18:30:46 UTC

idfk

2018-05-24 18:30:52 UTC

I think the optics here are fucked up

2018-05-24 18:30:57 UTC

Tomi Lahren is already well known

2018-05-24 18:31:13 UTC

SOme hoser who did some good for his community isn't well known has to be signal boosted

2018-05-24 18:31:21 UTC

THis is a false equivalency.

2018-05-24 18:34:33 UTC

Tomi is vapid but she's not a white supremacist. His justification for that comment was that she compared BLM to the KKK

2018-05-24 18:34:38 UTC

tomi lahren is an opportunist working for a major news station. obviously trump is talking about her and not the random guy (even if he did something heroinc)
