Uhh, we dont pay more taxes, I'm sure of it

2018-05-24 17:17:40 UTC

back then you paid a pittence

2018-05-24 17:17:49 UTC

im talking now 😄

2018-05-24 17:17:55 UTC

well.. even now

2018-05-24 17:18:45 UTC

so for example... on healthcare - the per capita average US citizen pays $8508 to the healthcare budget... in the UK (in USD) we pay $3500 per capita on average

2018-05-24 17:19:24 UTC

we became self sufficient, still had to pay taxes without a say and taxes went up because George was an idiot and went into debt

2018-05-24 17:19:40 UTC

and a UK citizen earning £20,000 will pay roughly £2k income tax (and that obviously already includes the health insurance)

2018-05-24 17:19:46 UTC

Enough of that

2018-05-24 17:19:52 UTC

yes but you get the benfit of US R&D on medication of procedures 😄

2018-05-24 17:19:54 UTC

I don't want to discuss healthcare

2018-05-24 17:20:11 UTC

We have corruption all up the chain here, too.

2018-05-24 17:20:34 UTC

oh, I totally agree on the independance... just on the tax thing, I dont agree youre necessarily better off... yet...

2018-05-24 17:20:44 UTC

oh we're better off

2018-05-24 17:20:49 UTC

taxes be damned 😄

2018-05-24 17:20:54 UTC

Owned

2018-05-24 17:21:20 UTC

def better off....

2018-05-24 17:21:43 UTC

but perhaps pay too much taxes... but thats youre choice really so its fine

2018-05-24 17:22:07 UTC

i would pay more, to be out of the EU

2018-05-24 17:22:25 UTC

It depends on what you call a tax

2018-05-24 17:22:32 UTC

Look, man. I was talking about taxation without representation. At least our taxes get represented. In some way, we actually keep our government responsible.

2018-05-24 17:22:44 UTC

Colonial America didn't have that option

2018-05-24 17:27:09 UTC

i wonder if without the war of independence britain would have created the taxation of colonies act 1778

2018-05-24 17:28:58 UTC

Doubtful

2018-05-24 17:31:22 UTC

you can have affordable, available, or quality. but not all 3.

2018-05-24 17:33:19 UTC

Our healthcare system is fucked up rn.

2018-05-24 17:33:48 UTC

It's way more complicated than universal or let alone free

2018-05-24 17:34:15 UTC

Corruption runs rampant, but damn is that corruption advantageous

2018-05-24 17:34:29 UTC

which is here

2018-05-24 17:35:03 UTC

what I find strange is that a lot of americans say healthcare is bad .. and look at canada as an example... which is rated one of the worst in the world 😛

2018-05-24 17:35:17 UTC

lmao

2018-05-24 17:35:43 UTC

American healthcare would be more affordable if we just stopped acting like insurance companies help us.

2018-05-24 17:36:10 UTC

Well. They do.

2018-05-24 17:36:23 UTC

And it's that kind of necessary evil

2018-05-24 17:37:44 UTC

they go to doctors and hospitals, and ask for a discount for giving them "business". The doctors go "but... this is how much this procedure costs.... like, there is no discount to have" and the hospital goes "we will charge this stupid price, give you a discount on THAT price, then charge the uninsured this new price. And now that we have made up these numbers no one can pay, they can get the state to pay us! then we will not pay the doctors enough, understand, and walk away with pockets full"

2018-05-24 17:37:49 UTC

I'm a firm believer, however, that necessary evil is still evil and thus should be eliminated. But I guess that makes me naive.

2018-05-24 17:38:26 UTC

there is a literal ledger in hospitals of how much to charge for a procedure, and its basically made up.

2018-05-24 17:38:26 UTC

I got a quote for private health insurance - £13 a month full cover

2018-05-24 17:38:35 UTC

its ridiculous.

2018-05-24 17:38:46 UTC

@Grenade123 I agree

2018-05-24 17:39:12 UTC

but I would only ever need it for things the NHS doesnt cover... like rare crap

2018-05-24 17:39:27 UTC

I negotiate procedure prices myself at hospitals. People don't know you can actually do that
