I was gonna say, there are people who'd use just to identify "Nazis" on their campus
But if it stayed online in a pseudoanonymous environment it could work well.
That would be pretty interesting to see
And the institutions themselves could organized IRL meetups in safe public spaces.
What are you people talking about
how to cure ligma
Cyanide
Oh BTW I did an amazing thing today
I deleted both my twitter accounts
And instead I took an online course about AI
It feels so good
Why do people get mad at twitter? It's garbage for politics, so just follow fun people and don't take it seriously.
they have trouble distinguising between real life and online life
and thus don't get shitposting
it's not worth it to have a twitter account. Low energy posting, normie memes, fake news and witchhunts
I miss when we were told to keep your identity a secret online. The modern internet is boring because everyone is scared of being ostracized for making jokes and speaking their mind.
same
you can read tweets without having an account, if there's specific people you find fun or a dev you want updates from
There's very little effort in having an account if you're going to do that. Just follow those people and don't follow the ones making/retweeting normalfag memes/fake news/moral outrage
But I feel bad for the kids who don't fit in in real life what with the normification of the internet.
what is the purpose in having an account? Keeping up with people is EZ if you dont have one
Because you don't have to remember every person you want to keep up with, and can interact with them/others who like them if you have one.
right but twitter interactions are shit by design
Depends on what you're after. If you want long form nuanced discussion then yeah it sucks, but that's why I said it sucks for politics.
140 characters is only good for smalltalk and platitudes, so you either have a long string of tweets to discuss one thing, or you use another service
nuance exists outside of politics
Same reason to have a youtube account. I *could* just remember every person I want to watch the videos of, or I could just make an account
They doubled it to 280. Still not amazing, but much better. I only started using it at the start of this year. Like I said, just don't take it seriously. If you're only after serious discussion, then yeah look elsewhere
they doubled it for everyone? Because they initially only did it for the privileged elite <:VeRiFiEd:463064374236413962> 's
also you can have full, nuanced replies on YT, you just might run into an idiot
Yeah, they did for everyone.
well that's at least a little better
i just ordered papa johns
fuck the haters
Papa John doesn't work there anymore. So that means no more racist pizza
Joke's on you now you have to eat Papa John's
@Timcast How is the weather there?
its great
im in philly
same as ny
Im just outside philly
dont want to be in a city right now
Aug 4 is going to be insanity
I thinking someone might die
That one punch man proud boy could have killed that antifa guy
lets hope for the best
Didn't that antifa guy get his skull caved in and brain damage from that punch?
probably
he went rigid
sign of brain damage
I hope that there's no serious violence but if there is, I'd put my money on the Proud Boys
I could see someone getting grievously injured, but dying is a pretty remote possibility given the lack of effective weapons and immediacy of first responders.
There's always the chance of some lunatic bringing a lethal weapon of course, like a gun or IED.
But mostly this is fists and placard sticks.
At the end of the day people are pretty fragile. People die from being punched in the head all the time, and lethal weapons can be anything from a fruit knife to a rock you found on the street.
that punch could have been lethal
I dunno man. I've seen some pretty awful injuries and the people involved make near complete recoveries.
so could him landing a shot with the baton
exactly
either one could have been killed and its only guna be worse
When you get two groups together who are waiting for excuses to harm the others I'm surprised things have gone as well as they have, but I haven't seen any reason to believe this event is going to be particularly worse than any other
its funy because if they dont show up nothing will happen
antifa i mean
Was on an op once and a dude from another platoon got shot in the shoulder with 7.62x39mm. They didn't even send him home.
This sort of thing definitely never happens at any sort of left wing rallies
and I don't mean to say that it's the people throwing the rallies who are to blame
There's a lot of women and rather fragile men on the antifa side of things.
That affects the calculus I guess.
I recently read, I forget if it was an article or an antifa discussion board where someone was complaining about how that reduced their effectiveness compared to the antifa of the past.
because they arent fighting anything real
if antifa doesnt show up the proud boys wander around and then find beer
Also in terms of class this isn't the same antifa. This isn't working class people who work for a living. These are college student activist dipshits who have never done a day's work in their lives.
It annoys me to see them flying the three arrows of the iron front. I wonder how many of them realize that they weren't only anti-nazi, but anti-communist as well
If this was like dock-workers or warehouse workers agitating then things would be different.
tbh the only people who suffer are the protestors on both sides
what are they accomplishing in the end ?
Don't forget the innocent garbage cans
being the top news story ?
like you see all these anti-trump rallies what are they really doing ? just making fools of themselveS?
@Timcast What did the OWS protestors accomplish ? Getting the park revise it's rules on allowing them to camp there modified ?
OWS got the DNC to mvoe all its money to Amalgamated bank
Amalgamated is Union owned
Alls these protestors do is accomplish a misdirection on real problems
A lot of the modern left wing rallies don't really seem very political. They seem more about fashion than anything
OWS changed the conversation from jobs, to class equality, to identity politics
because, yoiu know, that's going to win elections
@Timcast do you think that's how the birth of the far left began at OWS ?
Intersectionality does a great job at appearing moral and just, and who wants to argue against that?
yup
I guess OWS is when the progressive stack and the ensuing oppression olympics became mainstream.
geez that crazy
it was amazing how we were talking about wall street
the left and right were unified
I would have never pinned it on OWS
then within a week the regressive racists took over
and the right wingers left
what is OWS
occupy wallstreet
ooh
@Timcast you were there so if anyone would know about it , def you
