I like that actually

2018-07-29 23:16:09 UTC

In many cases no solutions is better than poorly thought out solutions. Like capitalism despite being the best known system and bringing about so much progress for the world does have some serious flaws, but then when you look at the commonly proposed solutions like Socialism you realize that just striving for progress without care for unintended consequences is a poor choice

2018-07-29 23:16:13 UTC

And things like "Students of a progressive viewpoint rated this professor as X, while students of a conservative viewpoint rated them Y"

2018-07-29 23:16:19 UTC

But it could go awry pretty quickly

2018-07-29 23:16:40 UTC

Oh yeah, it'd have to be pretty heavily anonymized. Maybe require institutional email.

2018-07-29 23:16:48 UTC

Most people just aren't equipped to create good solutions, but that doesn't mean they can't point out real problems

2018-07-29 23:16:53 UTC

Facebook was best when it required institutional email.

2018-07-29 23:16:58 UTC

Oh, like not actually meet in person?

2018-07-29 23:17:15 UTC

Well, that could go EXTRA bad.

2018-07-29 23:17:21 UTC

Ok

2018-07-29 23:17:37 UTC

Imagine people at Berkeley using that to stalk wrong-thinkers.

2018-07-29 23:17:50 UTC

I was gonna say, there are people who'd use just to identify "Nazis" on their campus

2018-07-29 23:18:03 UTC

But if it stayed online in a pseudoanonymous environment it could work well.

2018-07-29 23:18:21 UTC

That would be pretty interesting to see

2018-07-29 23:18:33 UTC

And the institutions themselves could organized IRL meetups in safe public spaces.

2018-07-30 00:07:53 UTC

What are you people talking about

2018-07-30 00:08:18 UTC

how to cure ligma

2018-07-30 00:08:30 UTC

Cyanide

2018-07-30 00:08:56 UTC

Oh BTW I did an amazing thing today

2018-07-30 00:09:05 UTC

I deleted both my twitter accounts

2018-07-30 00:09:59 UTC

And instead I took an online course about AI

2018-07-30 00:10:04 UTC

It feels so good

2018-07-30 00:16:15 UTC

Why do people get mad at twitter? It's garbage for politics, so just follow fun people and don't take it seriously.

2018-07-30 00:17:47 UTC

they have trouble distinguising between real life and online life

2018-07-30 00:17:57 UTC

and thus don't get shitposting

2018-07-30 00:19:31 UTC

it's not worth it to have a twitter account. Low energy posting, normie memes, fake news and witchhunts

2018-07-30 00:19:31 UTC

I miss when we were told to keep your identity a secret online. The modern internet is boring because everyone is scared of being ostracized for making jokes and speaking their mind.

2018-07-30 00:19:41 UTC

same

2018-07-30 00:19:59 UTC

you can read tweets without having an account, if there's specific people you find fun or a dev you want updates from

2018-07-30 00:20:57 UTC

There's very little effort in having an account if you're going to do that. Just follow those people and don't follow the ones making/retweeting normalfag memes/fake news/moral outrage

2018-07-30 00:21:34 UTC

But I feel bad for the kids who don't fit in in real life what with the normification of the internet.

2018-07-30 00:21:37 UTC

what is the purpose in having an account? Keeping up with people is EZ if you dont have one

2018-07-30 00:22:18 UTC

Because you don't have to remember every person you want to keep up with, and can interact with them/others who like them if you have one.

2018-07-30 00:22:38 UTC

right but twitter interactions are shit by design

2018-07-30 00:23:17 UTC

Depends on what you're after. If you want long form nuanced discussion then yeah it sucks, but that's why I said it sucks for politics.

2018-07-30 00:23:19 UTC

140 characters is only good for smalltalk and platitudes, so you either have a long string of tweets to discuss one thing, or you use another service

2018-07-30 00:23:29 UTC

nuance exists outside of politics

2018-07-30 00:24:04 UTC

Same reason to have a youtube account. I *could* just remember every person I want to watch the videos of, or I could just make an account

2018-07-30 00:25:07 UTC

They doubled it to 280. Still not amazing, but much better. I only started using it at the start of this year. Like I said, just don't take it seriously. If you're only after serious discussion, then yeah look elsewhere

2018-07-30 00:25:37 UTC

they doubled it for everyone? Because they initially only did it for the privileged elite <:VeRiFiEd:463064374236413962> 's

2018-07-30 00:26:18 UTC

also you can have full, nuanced replies on YT, you just might run into an idiot
