the free market tends towards monopolies and cartels
and in the modern era, advertising is more efficient than innovation, especially for pharma

2018-10-17 07:21:09 UTC

It is not a simple problem.

2018-10-17 07:21:13 UTC

Heh. I like that you bring in Edison. ๐Ÿ˜›

2018-10-17 07:21:24 UTC

Kind of a scumbag.

2018-10-17 07:21:59 UTC

Well, some things should never be left to free market

2018-10-17 07:22:04 UTC

Like Firefighting

2018-10-17 07:22:25 UTC

Ancient Athens and USA in 1800 tried that

2018-10-17 07:22:43 UTC

Firefighter mafias were having fights in the streets

2018-10-17 07:22:49 UTC

I can kind of see your point there.

2018-10-17 07:22:58 UTC

anything that has high infrastructure costs imo

2018-10-17 07:23:15 UTC

competition is nigh-impossible with broadband

2018-10-17 07:23:32 UTC

might wanna take a look into westinghouse history

2018-10-17 07:23:43 UTC

Texas has a brilliant solution to the electrical grid and private industry.

2018-10-17 07:23:45 UTC

Some things need state to function properly and/or not to be abused

2018-10-17 07:24:03 UTC

They broke the Electrical Supply system into three separate industries.

2018-10-17 07:24:14 UTC

I do agree that the state should be as minimal as it can get though

2018-10-17 07:24:16 UTC

Production, Transmission, and Delivery.

2018-10-17 07:24:23 UTC

Small govt is my Jive

2018-10-17 07:24:39 UTC

rye we got that over here

2018-10-17 07:24:55 UTC

Production company sells the power. Transmission maintains the insfrastructure, Delivery sells the electricity to the customer.

2018-10-17 07:25:03 UTC

electricity itself has never been cheaper.
Yet the final product price that you pay for, has never been more expensive.

2018-10-17 07:25:07 UTC

Production creates the power rather

2018-10-17 07:25:31 UTC

sounds like a good way to pay 3 times for a single service

2018-10-17 07:25:41 UTC

It's a LOT cheaper under that system than it is in the part of the state I live in

2018-10-17 07:25:47 UTC

which is 100% government fault since theyre the ones that are adding +70% of the price in taxes

2018-10-17 07:25:54 UTC

where we've got one company, take it or everything in your fridge rots.

2018-10-17 07:26:16 UTC

welcome to my country rye

2018-10-17 07:26:28 UTC

That is literally the situation

2018-10-17 07:26:34 UTC

plenty of competition tho

2018-10-17 07:26:37 UTC

One of the things is, you can actually CHOOSE to go with a 'green energy' company

2018-10-17 07:26:44 UTC

that only buys from Wind Farms

2018-10-17 07:26:52 UTC

but they all cost tons of money due to the phonebook of taxes added

2018-10-17 07:26:59 UTC

Or you can chose to not care about the environment and go cheap if you like.

2018-10-17 07:27:16 UTC

lol ur describing the situation here ๐Ÿ˜„

2018-10-17 07:27:18 UTC

because those green energy companies pay a fuckton for those solar farms

2018-10-17 07:27:26 UTC

and wind farms

2018-10-17 07:28:26 UTC

And yeah, Taxes and regulations are largely responsible for the high costs of a lot of things

2018-10-17 07:28:42 UTC

im not from texas

2018-10-17 07:28:44 UTC

Especially pharmaceuticals and energy.

2018-10-17 07:28:48 UTC

I know.

2018-10-17 07:28:49 UTC

But i didnt know texas was like this as well

2018-10-17 07:29:01 UTC

A large portion of it is.

2018-10-17 07:29:17 UTC

Certain parts rebelled against it because they were afraid of the new-fangled 'Smart Meters'.

2018-10-17 07:29:33 UTC

They'd rather pay a guy a $50 connection fee.

2018-10-17 07:29:52 UTC

Tbh i would too

2018-10-17 07:30:06 UTC

I got "smart meters" on my heaters

2018-10-17 07:30:17 UTC

I live smaller then before

2018-10-17 07:30:22 UTC

better isolated then before

2018-10-17 07:30:29 UTC

And i have never in my life paid more for heating then now

2018-10-17 07:30:33 UTC

does electricity even need to be taxed?

2018-10-17 07:30:39 UTC

It is here

2018-10-17 07:30:47 UTC

I mean...

2018-10-17 07:30:53 UTC

but why, what's the reasoning behind it?

2018-10-17 07:30:56 UTC

And its not even a light tax, its a ridiculous tax

2018-10-17 07:31:10 UTC

It depends on what you think the government should be doing, Shin.

2018-10-17 07:31:32 UTC

If you think the government should be active in a caretaker role for people

2018-10-17 07:31:38 UTC

then the taxes are necessary.

2018-10-17 07:31:51 UTC

And, in fact, more taxes would be needed to strengthen that role.

2018-10-17 07:32:11 UTC

if the government should be an active caretaker, it would be providing electricity in the first place, not taxing the businesses that provide it

2018-10-17 07:32:19 UTC

If you believe government shouldn't be given decisive power over wellbeing as I do, you start to really see where cuts could be made.

2018-10-17 07:32:36 UTC

adding 70% to the price, without actually helping to provide the service, seems bizarre

2018-10-17 07:32:50 UTC

I pay regular taxes for electricity 21%, then another tax on distribution and something for social security shit, then a green energy tax.
And on top of that an illegal extra tax (100โ‚ฌ a year) that will be abolished next year i believe, because its an illegal doubletax.
But forget about seeing your money back oh no thats not how government rolls here.

2018-10-17 07:32:57 UTC

Presumably, the tax is a fee for the public property used in the process.

2018-10-17 07:33:10 UTC

which ends in an electric bill that is +70% tax

2018-10-17 07:33:25 UTC

and 30% electric usage cost + distributing/maintenance costs.

2018-10-17 07:33:31 UTC

Really little difference between reality and an ideological AnCap paradise.

2018-10-17 07:33:34 UTC

green energy tax? <:thonkraka:430185885720510475>

2018-10-17 07:33:45 UTC

except in Acapistan there is no public property.

2018-10-17 07:34:00 UTC

it is bizarre

2018-10-17 07:34:12 UTC

Reasoning is that it would incentivize ppl to use less electricity

2018-10-17 07:34:22 UTC

lol

2018-10-17 07:34:27 UTC

Be realistic.

2018-10-17 07:34:32 UTC

That was never the goal.

2018-10-17 07:34:38 UTC

problem is that the poor of society got serious financial problems now

2018-10-17 07:34:50 UTC

That's just the excuse that was given.

2018-10-17 07:35:03 UTC

The only feasible solutions to energy seem to be Nuclear and hydroelectricity

2018-10-17 07:35:05 UTC

ofc not its all about milking everyone dry to fund that goddamn bureaucracy

2018-10-17 07:35:06 UTC

People who levy taxes have this nasty habit of telling you 'why' you need the tax on it.

2018-10-17 07:35:15 UTC

Hey y'all I'm new so I just wanna introduce myself, not tryna interrupt or anything, but what exactly are we talking about?

2018-10-17 07:35:19 UTC

or telling you 'what' it's going to fund.

2018-10-17 07:35:25 UTC

electricity

2018-10-17 07:35:32 UTC

electricity, taxes, capitalism, the usual

2018-10-17 07:35:39 UTC

Oh fun lmao

2018-10-17 07:35:52 UTC

This is a great place to get into an argument for hours.

2018-10-17 07:35:52 UTC

Time to s c r o l

2018-10-17 07:35:57 UTC

lol

2018-10-17 07:36:04 UTC

Well let me put it like this

2018-10-17 07:36:06 UTC

solar, wind, and geothermal are the most realiable afaict

2018-10-17 07:36:19 UTC

I do insist that you scroll up to my 'Apple' explanation of capitalism

2018-10-17 07:36:19 UTC

I used to live in a 2 bedroom appartment 130 mยฒ

2018-10-17 07:36:32 UTC

Now i live in a single appartment 65 mยฒ

2018-10-17 07:36:39 UTC

I pay more for heating now

2018-10-17 07:36:44 UTC

then i ever did at the other place

2018-10-17 07:36:49 UTC

rip

2018-10-17 07:36:54 UTC

Even tho, now i only have 1 heater working

2018-10-17 07:36:55 UTC

lmao this dude using meters like we're in eu

2018-10-17 07:37:01 UTC

and at the other place i had 7

2018-10-17 07:37:06 UTC

we don't ever heat, but we still gotta pay for it

2018-10-17 07:37:20 UTC

Difference is: Other place had a guy check the meter every year.
This place got "smart meters"

2018-10-17 07:37:30 UTC

Nuclear is most relaiable and best way of producing electricity
