Rinse and Repeat, featured at the V&A, riffs on the locker-room fantasy, a stalwart genre of gay pornography designed to rob the changing room of its sense of threat, where a young man can be outed just for glancing at another in a way taken to be sexually inquisitive. In Yangโ€™s game, you sponge down a man in the public shower while he rates you on your performance. Though suggestive heterosexual content is common in games, Rinse and Repeat was banned recently from the video-streaming service Twitch.

2018-08-19 19:05:08 UTC

its the guardian its real

2018-08-19 19:05:12 UTC

2018-08-19 19:05:15 UTC

That they "revolutionise the industry" etc, is total fake news

2018-08-19 19:05:48 UTC

2018-08-19 19:06:21 UTC

2018-08-19 19:06:37 UTC

2018-08-19 19:07:03 UTC

why would they lie like that clickbait "These 6 people revolutionised blabla"

2018-08-19 19:07:07 UTC

What video game would you love to see made?
A few years ago, someone showed me their menstruation management app. I wanted to make a menstruation cycle simulator game. Unfortunately, I donโ€™t possess a uterus, or the lived experience, or the social expectations, so I hereby offer this premise to a more qualified designer to attempt. Godspeed.

2018-08-19 19:07:17 UTC

I'd sooner click on an article that goes like "Lol, look at these losers trying idiocy"

2018-08-19 19:07:18 UTC

Wouldent you play such a gem ?

2018-08-19 19:07:57 UTC

play?

I'd burn any posession i had that was touched by someone playing such a thing

2018-08-19 19:08:41 UTC

these peopel don't seem to get, that you can't "Force" a game to be good

2018-08-19 19:08:49 UTC

Who has fun playing shit like that

2018-08-19 19:09:00 UTC

Anybody who plays those games for fun

2018-08-19 19:09:08 UTC

Are not wired correctly

2018-08-19 19:09:53 UTC

he is right though

2018-08-19 19:09:59 UTC

he doesn't have the social expectations

2018-08-19 19:11:28 UTC

Still govt art grants and embezzlement led to postmodernist art

2018-08-19 19:11:33 UTC

Fucking kill me

2018-08-19 19:11:39 UTC

you should make your own art

2018-08-19 19:11:42 UTC

and take taht money

2018-08-19 19:11:43 UTC

๐Ÿ˜‰

2018-08-19 19:12:56 UTC

I have something

2018-08-19 19:13:01 UTC

Its called standards

2018-08-19 19:13:08 UTC

You guys dont understand!

2018-08-19 19:13:13 UTC

And dignity

2018-08-19 19:13:19 UTC

Its their time now !

2018-08-19 19:13:25 UTC

Gamers are dead

2018-08-19 19:13:40 UTC

Games are progressive art form

2018-08-19 19:13:53 UTC

And tool to correct history of mankind

2018-08-19 19:14:01 UTC

๐Ÿ˜€

2018-08-19 19:14:04 UTC

I used to think games were art

2018-08-19 19:14:18 UTC

Some are imo

2018-08-19 19:14:18 UTC

but the art-snob people made me step away from that notion

2018-08-19 19:14:24 UTC

well

2018-08-19 19:14:47 UTC

My stance on it, Games can be art, just like any art form

Not every painting is a work of art

2018-08-19 19:15:16 UTC

fuck it, theres a market for all of it

2018-08-19 19:15:36 UTC

Art is made by the quality and feeling you get from the object in question

2018-08-19 19:15:57 UTC

art can be whatever you say art is though

2018-08-19 19:15:59 UTC

Imo games are art

2018-08-19 19:16:08 UTC

But its artform of its own

2018-08-19 19:16:21 UTC

Since it requires active interaction

2018-08-19 19:16:33 UTC

And not just passive reception

2018-08-19 19:16:56 UTC

Nah, i think art has a measurement of appreciation you can get for it,

You can empty your trash-can on a canvas, give it some pretentious name and call art

2018-08-19 19:17:06 UTC

but its all just rash

2018-08-19 19:17:39 UTC

a game requires a bit of effort though, it needs to compile at least

2018-08-19 19:17:46 UTC

trashy art yes, but it can still be considered art

2018-08-19 19:17:53 UTC

life is art

2018-08-19 19:17:58 UTC

Only to the people pretentious enough to label it art

2018-08-19 19:18:02 UTC

ok then

2018-08-19 19:18:16 UTC

Sand can be considered food, since you can swallow it

2018-08-19 19:18:18 UTC

it is just pretentious art

2018-08-19 19:18:28 UTC

and its hard to create the assets for a game if you're not good at design, unless you're making a text based game or very simple asssets

2018-08-19 19:18:33 UTC

not all art has to be good or have value

2018-08-19 19:18:36 UTC

art is expression

2018-08-19 19:19:28 UTC

art being expression is a thing exactly for such pretentiousness,

A fart is an expression of my bowels, that doesn't make it art :P

My point is, that if you can just label anything art, then nothing is art, because everything is

2018-08-19 19:19:56 UTC

is there an example of a game that is like throwing trash on a canvas?

2018-08-19 19:20:05 UTC

I think my problem with "games are art" is that it causes people to often look down upon games that aren't trying to have a higher-level meaning and just be games. They'll say Gone Home is art but something like Quake or Doom is "just a game".

2018-08-19 19:20:08 UTC

i think its actually *more* pretentious to limit what you can call art, so let's just agree to disagree

2018-08-19 19:20:17 UTC

I'm ok calling anythign art

2018-08-19 19:20:21 UTC

same as speech

2018-08-19 19:20:24 UTC

Yes lots of games are like that lol

2018-08-19 19:20:26 UTC

any of those Assetware games

Where people just use free assets and shove them into a premade game template

2018-08-19 19:20:36 UTC

whoare you to say say what's art or not, or free speech or not

2018-08-19 19:20:41 UTC

^^^

2018-08-19 19:20:44 UTC

thats true, but someone had to create the assets to begin with

2018-08-19 19:20:53 UTC

video games often tell a story, and no matter how bad it is it's still art

2018-08-19 19:21:01 UTC

even if not, the assets are art

2018-08-19 19:21:05 UTC

the art credited to them i guess

2018-08-19 19:21:26 UTC

being the authority on what is and isn't art is extremely pretentious

2018-08-19 19:21:39 UTC

well art is defined as:

the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

If it falls outside of that, it can't really be art

2018-08-19 19:21:40 UTC

Yeah people disliked Ebert when he did that

2018-08-19 19:21:50 UTC

yeah what vesdii said

2018-08-19 19:22:04 UTC

so unless you wanna redefine the meaning of art, theres an actual limit to art

2018-08-19 19:22:05 UTC

If anything is art, art no longer has utility as a word

2018-08-19 19:22:11 UTC

^

2018-08-19 19:22:15 UTC

also: is football art? that's a game, just in a different medium.

2018-08-19 19:22:24 UTC

Video games are art where the observer has to use their hands at least a little bit.

2018-08-19 19:22:29 UTC

if anything is speech, speech no longer has a utility as a word

2018-08-19 19:22:30 UTC

art has to do with intention

2018-08-19 19:22:34 UTC

the skill that some footballers have on the ball is art,

But the game itself isn't art

2018-08-19 19:22:41 UTC

You can't tell intent

2018-08-19 19:22:45 UTC

the art of war

2018-08-19 19:22:49 UTC
