Bethesda games donโ€™t run on Linux, at least Mx Linux

2020-10-27 11:10:15 UTC

Iโ€™ve tried FO4 and skyrim, not sure if I tried new Vegas

2020-10-27 14:26:51 UTC

Gonna check out this video and see how clickbait it is. Linus tends to do this to get views because he is a pile of shit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XaOeLPztN4&ab_channel=LinusTechTips

2020-10-27 14:34:23 UTC

yup 100% click bait title. Fucking Linus is such a dickmuncher. I hate having to watch his videos because about 10% of the time the title is not click bait. Jesus.

2020-10-27 14:46:08 UTC

I stopped watching Linus consistently years ago. Between how much click bait and the amount of cringe he adds it just wasn't worth it. That said, I do still watch the occasional video because he has the budget to do some cooler projects.

> Iโ€™ve tried FO4 and slim m skyrim, not sure if I tried new Vegas
@Kid Persona the GOG release of New Vegas has a gold rating for WINE (what Proton is a fork of) so it would probably work just fine when playing. Probably helps New Vegas wasn't made by Bethesda.

Jayztwocents is a pretty good alternative

2020-10-27 20:27:30 UTC

You guys wanna see something funny?

2020-10-27 20:37:05 UTC

My graphics card runs at a toasty 90C lol

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/766007595881463879/770747922392154152/image0.jpg

2020-10-27 20:45:29 UTC

Honestly, modern GPUs are designed for 90C and many will keep trying to overclock themselves to get to that temperature.

2020-10-27 20:47:45 UTC

Not a gtx 480 ๐Ÿ˜…

2020-10-27 20:48:19 UTC

> Jayztwocents is a pretty good alternative
@SANDY I also enjoy Level1Techs as an alternative if you aren't going for pure reviews thou they also do reviews. They do some cool prosumer and even some entry level enterprise projects.

2020-10-27 20:54:07 UTC

There is also a sister Level1Linux for those Linux lovers

2020-10-28 00:52:14 UTC

nice, ill go check them out

2020-10-28 17:52:29 UTC

I GOT A 3090 BOYS!!!!

2020-10-28 17:53:01 UTC

Hell yea, just plucked one up from a 3rd party seller for $100 over retail. Got the founders edition too.

2020-10-28 18:45:56 UTC

I hate the people who sale cards way over market, I got a Vega 64 when I came out a few years ago off eBay and paid $120 over market just to get it because I needed it to finish my build.

2020-10-28 18:51:25 UTC

guys i just realized my old ipad has been with us since 1st grade

2020-10-28 18:51:37 UTC

and i still use it

2020-10-28 18:55:31 UTC

I have an old Dell OptiPlex GX520, manufactured in June of 2006. I was able to upgrade the CPU and the RAM. Iโ€™m still looking for a graphics card, but the motherboard only has two PCI slots. Is there any time of converter so a PCI E would work with it? Currently I am relying on Intel integrated graphics from my Intel Pentium R Dual Core, which strains it a lot. Thanks for the feedback! (Ping me)

2020-10-28 18:58:03 UTC

PCIe and PCI are completely different technologies and even if there is a way to convert PCIe to PCI, PCI would be such an incredible bottleneck it would not be worth it from a performance standpoint.

2020-10-28 18:58:25 UTC
2020-10-28 18:58:41 UTC

Ic

2020-10-28 18:59:11 UTC

It also has a PCI E 1x slot, but I donโ€™t think they make cards that fit that

2020-10-28 19:00:31 UTC

Basically a size of a slot for a WiFi card

2020-10-28 19:00:42 UTC

PCIe is backwards compatible so you have two options. You can either file off the back of the slot to make a 16x fit or use a PCIe extender and connect the card that way.

2020-10-28 19:03:24 UTC

Is it a PCIe m.2 slot or just a normal 1x slot? Either way you can use an extender to fit a GPU. It will be bottlenecked on the bandwidth but much less then PCI would.

2020-10-28 19:03:51 UTC

I would have to look

2020-10-28 19:04:02 UTC

But Iโ€™m pretty sure itโ€™s a 1x

2020-10-28 19:14:54 UTC

It's been a few years but I remember there was a LTT video that showed that while there was a bottle neck with 1x over 16x it wasn't as much as you would expect. I'd also imagine with the age of your computer your not expecting to put a 3090 in it.

2020-10-28 19:25:59 UTC

Correct

2020-10-28 19:26:22 UTC

The pci express is the little black one on the bottom

2020-10-28 19:27:12 UTC

Iโ€™m just thinking of something that would give me decent quality

2020-10-28 19:30:02 UTC
2020-10-28 19:30:45 UTC

Iโ€™m assuming it would work with the extender?

2020-10-28 19:31:31 UTC
2020-10-28 19:32:33 UTC

Ok

2020-10-28 19:33:01 UTC

How would you mount the graphics card? Outside or inside the case?

2020-10-28 19:36:18 UTC

That is an inside the case extender. Can you fit/attach a GPU above the PCI slots where the missing 16x slot would go?

2020-10-28 19:48:23 UTC

yeah, i could probably find a way to do that

2020-10-28 19:48:37 UTC

because im not using them

2020-10-28 20:37:36 UTC

Q: How many decibels is that?
A: All of them

2020-11-01 04:24:52 UTC

Does anyone else think Apples motto at this point is "Create problems sell solutions"

2020-11-01 18:05:50 UTC

To an extent, Apple Care seems to be one of the few extended warranties worth it. That's mainly because unlike PCs (desktop or laptops) there is almost nothing inside the average user with a online tutorial can repair.

2020-11-02 19:33:14 UTC

> I GOT A 3090 BOYS!!!!
@Knotty rip

2020-11-02 21:11:24 UTC

lol right

2020-11-03 14:56:21 UTC

damn a 3090

2020-11-03 14:56:29 UTC

thats kind of epic ngl

2020-11-03 14:56:42 UTC

but im getting the 5900x and the 6800xt

2020-11-03 14:56:45 UTC

so jokes on you

2020-11-03 21:00:14 UTC

I still have my 1050ti

2020-11-03 22:04:16 UTC

And meanwhile i'm siting here trying to run minecraft on a mac.

2020-11-03 22:37:59 UTC

*laughs in using a spray painted gtx 480*

2020-11-04 01:36:02 UTC

I have a 1660 TI

2020-11-04 01:36:17 UTC

Im probably gonna get a 2070 when the 30 series comes out

2020-11-04 01:36:40 UTC

I mean 40 series

2020-11-04 01:52:29 UTC

Yeah, that's more accurate

2020-11-04 01:52:45 UTC

The irony with their new super-ai crap is hysterical

2020-11-04 01:53:25 UTC

"We have this new ai that can do all these things, but we don't know how to use a captcha system"

2020-11-04 17:46:04 UTC

heres whats scary to me

2020-11-04 17:46:10 UTC

idk if this is technology persey but

2020-11-04 17:46:19 UTC

I think technology is the biggest political weapon of our generation

2020-11-04 17:46:27 UTC

google, twitter, facebook, instagram, tiktok,

2020-11-04 17:46:35 UTC

all of these platforms are platforms for radical political ideologies

2020-11-04 21:53:27 UTC

correct

2020-11-04 21:53:35 UTC

I'm surprised you just noticed

2020-11-05 01:41:35 UTC

laughs in rx 570 oh wai-

2020-11-05 02:21:40 UTC

Well it was only 26 bucks so I bought it ,needs a belt replacement

2020-11-05 02:21:52 UTC

Thou

2020-11-05 03:26:31 UTC

Iโ€™m guessing this is a corrupted graphics card, right?

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/766007595881463879/773750063532081167/image0.jpg

2020-11-05 03:36:15 UTC

Is that VGA, could also be a bad cable of it is.

2020-11-05 03:41:37 UTC

Nah, the belt turned into a gummy bear

2020-11-05 03:41:58 UTC

So I can't type

2020-11-05 03:43:42 UTC

It is vga

2020-11-05 03:44:04 UTC

Hereโ€™s the interesting thing

2020-11-05 03:44:54 UTC

The graphics card doesnโ€™t have a direct vga output, just s-video and dms-59 (which nobody uses)

2020-11-05 03:45:16 UTC

So I had to get a dms-59 to vga adapter

2020-11-05 03:45:46 UTC

Itโ€™s a dual adapter so it has two vga ports on the end of it, I tested both and get the same thing

2020-11-05 03:46:18 UTC

I also just got this adapter in the mail today, so it would be very disappointing if it turns out to be faulty

2020-11-05 21:14:57 UTC

does anyone here know how i could get Minecraft Dungeons working on my computer (not the aforementioned mac btw) It says "not enough Vram" but im not sure what that means

2020-11-05 21:17:03 UTC

that's all the information i have for now

2020-11-05 21:51:05 UTC

Vram is video memory for your graphics card

2020-11-05 21:52:12 UTC

If you don't have enough vram then you'll have to upgrade your graphics card

2020-11-05 21:52:37 UTC
2020-11-05 22:07:22 UTC

How little vram does you GPU have? Minecraft when I played many years ago was not a GPU heavy game and much more CPU bound.

2020-11-05 23:05:00 UTC

OK thanks

2020-11-05 23:14:40 UTC

@Stargatemaster96 minecraft dungeons is a new game by mojang which is separate from minecraft. I run normal minecraft all the time and it works fine.

2020-11-05 23:26:38 UTC

my gpu has 8gb of vram hahahaha

2020-11-06 00:17:24 UTC

Is it expected for a 5000 mobile ryzen processor line to be released soon? Because I am waiting to buy a good convertible AMD laptop w/ pen

2020-11-06 01:14:03 UTC

AMD APUs and mobile class have historically been about 6 months behind the desktop class but with AMDs rise to power they may compress that time line.

2020-11-06 16:19:33 UTC

I am pretty sure tesla is a tech company. So this qualifies for this channel. And yes I ordered 3 of these. 1 for myself, 1 for a mantel piece, and 1 for my mom who is a tequila person.

2020-11-07 06:21:54 UTC

Anyone know the best companies for reasonable priced quiet fans that perform well

2020-11-07 06:52:54 UTC

what size of fans? and for what purpose, like computers, external devices, etc

2020-11-07 11:45:05 UTC

@SmokyCopCar If you're talking computer case fans, I always found bequiet to be reasonable.

2020-11-07 12:29:59 UTC

Computer. My bad not specifying s Thankyou @user_zero
