I know I could start my own company under my SSN (instead of EIN) and open a SEP IRA. I know annuities and life insurance products *can* be used but they're more susceptible to be changed by government policy and have much higher fees, also aren't as liquid. I know if I worked for federal/state/local government there would be pensions and other possibilities but let's assume a private civilian for this question.
