bail paid by taxpayer money? 😛

2018-09-13 12:51:20 UTC

ABOLISH PROFITS

2018-09-13 12:51:24 UTC

tbh, never got the point of bail.

2018-09-13 12:51:49 UTC

Nor do I.

2018-09-13 12:51:51 UTC

"hey, lets let the rich go free to fuck with people again but keep the poor locked up."

2018-09-13 12:51:53 UTC

Probably a holdover from the Victorian era

2018-09-13 12:51:55 UTC

Jackie Brown had a good take on bails

2018-09-13 12:52:01 UTC

"You can get out, if you're a bond villain."

2018-09-13 12:52:23 UTC

Bail should be relative to a persons income, Rich people paying lots is good money

2018-09-13 12:52:24 UTC

"Poor people get trapped, but true megalomaniacs can go."

2018-09-13 12:52:47 UTC

either you are a danger of running or of committing a crime again, or you are not. none of this "you must make x money to be considered not a danger"

2018-09-13 12:53:07 UTC

So noblemen wouldn't be forced to stay in Newgate with the rabble.

2018-09-13 12:53:11 UTC

"This is an outrage. I want to go back to my volcano base. I have money!!"

2018-09-13 12:53:28 UTC

"Oh. Sorry about that sir. Where are the keys.."

2018-09-13 12:54:07 UTC

```Bail should be relative to a persons income, Rich people paying lots is good money```
Nah nah nah, this would be a RENAISSANCE of crooked police.
2018-09-13 12:54:19 UTC
Too much profit for all the wrong reasons.
2018-09-13 12:54:23 UTC
i wouldn't be fine with getting rid of bail all together and just make those who would or are on bail go free until their court date. If they miss their court date, they get a bounty on their head.
2018-09-13 12:54:29 UTC
I think the idea originally was,
Rich people have assets which they can't just run away with, so are inclined to stay
Whilst poor people can just leave the country and try somewhere else
2018-09-13 12:54:39 UTC
Imagine if that were the case during the OJ trial.
2018-09-13 12:54:56 UTC
The accusations that the police did outlandish planting would suddenly become VERY BELIEVABLE
2018-09-13 12:54:58 UTC
You don't want that.
2018-09-13 12:55:07 UTC
Bail itself is just strange.
2018-09-13 12:55:12 UTC
As it stands I think people perceive bail as being a remedy for spurious charges. If the state was competent enough such that the overwhelming majority of those arrested would actually be convicted, I think bail would be abolished.
2018-09-13 12:56:15 UTC
@Dr.Wol if that was the thought, that person is very naive. Given that rich people would have the money to leave the country in a hurry while poor people can mostly just walk and run. i.e. much easier to find a running poor person than a rich one.
2018-09-13 12:56:54 UTC
Thats currently, cuz money is electronic
2018-09-13 12:57:01 UTC
If you're deemed a flight risk they won't set bail.
2018-09-13 12:57:02 UTC
A few hundred years ago that logic would have held. Not today of course.
2018-09-13 12:57:02 UTC
bail only gets you out of waiting in jail for your court date.
2018-09-13 12:57:15 UTC
I'm talking when bail was originally implemented
2018-09-13 12:57:18 UTC
If you're rich in the 1700s it's because of your land and property.
2018-09-13 12:57:23 UTC
and i don't believe you get it back
2018-09-13 12:57:25 UTC
Today it's all in the banking system.
2018-09-13 12:57:36 UTC
so its not like collateral to make sure you don't run
2018-09-13 12:57:49 UTC
Okay so..
2018-09-13 12:58:02 UTC
This alleged molester. He didn't even have his day in court yet.
2018-09-13 12:58:05 UTC
so its basically paying with money instead of your time.
2018-09-13 12:58:23 UTC
No but its like, you pay the bail to not sit in jail
But are a safer case you'll return to court, cuz you can't just run away cuz your gold coins are in the vault of the bank
2018-09-13 12:58:28 UTC
If that girlfriend is lying, I want her dead next.
2018-09-13 12:58:30 UTC
The state should not have been so incompetent as to grant bail. Then he would have remained safe in custody and have reached trial.
2018-09-13 12:58:36 UTC
If she's not lying, I'm peachy.
2018-09-13 12:58:38 UTC
exactly
