What's not being realized there is that communication is about more than words. If you steal my cookie and I chop your fingers off because of it....you might be hesistant to take my cookie again or more likely to kill me and just take my cookies.

2018-09-22 23:33:41 UTC

That's why I prefer talking in person over telephone over text

2018-09-22 23:34:05 UTC

@Nine dude im same

2018-09-22 23:34:23 UTC

at work i prefer to talk to someone rather than respond to thier email if i can

2018-09-22 23:34:32 UTC

via phone or in person

2018-09-22 23:35:43 UTC

My general rule is if texts or email chains go over five passes in a quick time frame, I just call

2018-09-22 23:36:13 UTC

funny, i'll go talk to someone in person if i can, but then go to text before phone. idk why.

2018-09-22 23:36:50 UTC

@Grenade123 dude same

2018-09-22 23:37:09 UTC

its fucked up how reliant on non verbal communication our society has become

2018-09-22 23:37:24 UTC

Well it's about data, right? The more data the better the resolution of the picture.

2018-09-22 23:40:10 UTC

I mean, text communication has the bonus of less chance for misunderstanding due to accents, mispronunciation, mishearing, or misremembering. It is also recorded by default.

2018-09-22 23:40:34 UTC

but you stand a chance of miscommunication due to loss of body language and vocal inflection

2018-09-22 23:41:17 UTC

although things like emojis and other text specific habits help negate that to a degree

2018-09-22 23:41:35 UTC

Ugh, just thinking about dealing with medical dictations

2018-09-22 23:42:59 UTC

knowledge of the one you are trying to communicate with is another big one

2018-09-22 23:43:20 UTC

This is some deep stuff

2018-09-22 23:43:31 UTC

that goes regardless of form of communication

2018-09-22 23:43:44 UTC

i.e. knowing how to read the audience when telling a joke

2018-09-22 23:43:51 UTC

yes, but is a key to communication

2018-09-22 23:44:33 UTC

a lot of trial by error

2018-09-22 23:45:36 UTC

Of course, nowadays, you are shunned and made an outcast for erroring...so there is less trying.

2018-09-22 23:46:04 UTC

erring, not erroring :p

2018-09-22 23:46:19 UTC

k, thanks teach.

2018-09-22 23:46:30 UTC

my C in english comp not good enough for ya?

2018-09-22 23:46:37 UTC

just trying to emphasize your point

2018-09-22 23:47:24 UTC

well if you cut off my fingers, maybe I would remember.

2018-09-22 23:47:59 UTC

but i'd probably just kill you and make your cookies mine.

2018-09-22 23:48:26 UTC

You'd make a martyr of a grammar nazi?

2018-09-22 23:48:52 UTC

it's a reference to what I said much earlier in this convo

2018-09-22 23:49:00 UTC

I know

2018-09-22 23:49:12 UTC

gone full circle, so now back to incest ....i guess.

2018-09-22 23:49:20 UTC

Silliness doesn't translate well in text

2018-09-22 23:51:29 UTC

Depends on what you have to indicate it <:doge:272653287965065217>

2018-09-22 23:51:58 UTC

Depends on what you mean by silliness.

2018-09-22 23:52:08 UTC

I'd rather people always assume me naive 😇

2018-09-22 23:52:21 UTC

You get away with more stuff

2018-09-22 23:52:29 UTC

I'd rather assume we are all morons in the dark with shitty flashlights
