I don't wanna see some shit like "only for software XD" have some principles and stick to them
there is a difference however, a big one: the ability to trade with other people for the item you want
No, gambling requires 3 elements. Chance, Prize and Consideration. No chance is ever seen by any player.
So Valve's lootboxes are fine
what are valves lootboxes?
You can trade your skins
oh, the CS:GO crap?
Which created a giant grey market
yes
TF2 as well
just like the hats
They are because they don’t set a market price on the goods, rather take a % from each transaction, allowing the market to set value. Protected by second sale doctrine
Hats and weapons, and the cards
A casino makes sure a blue chip is with x$
So then the issue wouldn't be lootboxes, but the existence of a second hand market
Or rather the lack of one
"Chance, Prize and Consideration. No chance is ever seen by any player."
what does this mean?
if there is an ability to trade, i do believe lootbox style stuff is not nearly as bad, and would be closer to trading card games
Exactly, against TOS. Im working on a series from the AUS committee. Out of no where, the “chairmen” starts talking about wow gold.. you who want to regulate are being used as pawns lol
Lol
I kid you not.. and the expert who was talking at the time said yes, that needs to be looked at “because of the ability to sell and buy on illegal 3rd party website”
its already illegal
tf they gonna do?
Make it 18+ in aus
isn't Australia already like the most annoying market to sell games in?
Yes
It's a terrible market for consumers
Prices are high, the Australian government are a bunch of puritan babies
The thing about it is, when you look into how they say gambling is “bad” and “addictive”.. that’s 100% bullshit. Its based of the fixed ratio vs variable ratio study that is horse shit. 100% bullshit study that was used in the loot box AUS com.
Also many games don't have a proper Aus/SEA server so you get 200ping minimum
Like you're on fucking dial up
my problem with most lootboxes is that they are dangerously close to modern slot machines, which i do believe are problematic as they use social engineering to maximize money spent and minimize money put out that in some cases is tailored to the user
I'm West Coast so I run into a lot of Aussies and Kiwis in vidya
lootboxes are not that bad yet
Nearest region lol
Then people like Jim Sterling and others go on about how predatory loot boxes are.. while promoting gay lifestyles to children and pushing listeners to go get head meds if they don’t feel normal, and don’t listen to a doctor who doesn’t tell you what you want to hear. 100% bullshit!
I played a game with really bad lootbox mechanics, Rift
Like 75% of what used to be gear drops were boxes that you had to buy the keys for with cash
Oof
who are lootboxes taking money from? parents who don't pay attention to what their kids are doing
And this was a game that was supposed to be buy to play
